Basically i'll (or someone else if they got a particular period) list a few albums from three consecutive years and then let people add albums they think are important or one they love as well as commenting on the few i've listed.

ok

1990

Rust In Peace - Megadeth - One of my all time favourite albums

Seasons In The Abyss - Slayer  Another all time favourite

Cowboys From Hell - Pantera  don't own it, but have heard of the legend that is Pantera

Painkiller - Judas Priest  don't own it but it is the Priest

No Prayer For The Dying - Iron Maiden :) some songs are dodgey, the guitars sound dodgey but saved by the title track, Tailgunner and Bring Your Daughter To The Slaughter

Persistance Of Time - Anthrax  don't own it and i don't reall like Antherax, but they were part of the big thrash 4 so must of done something right, this was rated high by Metal Hammer magazine so i'm trusting them.

1991

Metallica (aka Black album) - Metallica  who doesn't know one song from this amazing album?

Never Mind - Nirvana :D Not my thing, but deserves respect

1992

Vulgar Display of Power - Pantera  Same as Cowboys From Hell except this made Pantera well known metal artists

Rage Against The Machine - Rage Against The Machine  another all time fave of mine, good mixture of attitude and guitar/bass riffs.

Dirt - Alice In Chains  i don't own but was rated high

The Ritual - Testament :D i don't own this Testament album, but i've got one of there greatest hits complilations (Days of Darkness) and i'm loving it.

thats me with mine and giving a few ideas for you lot. Feel free to add albums if you want.

Common people, some of you must have an opinion on these bands, or would like to add to the list.

I hate to be a git John, but there aint no 'e' in 'Anthrax'.... :D

1990 - Sisters of Mercy - Vision Thing (Goth Rock, so it counts, and it got reviewed in the likes of Kerrang! anyway...); Fields of the Nephilim - Elyzium (ditto); Sonic Youth - Goo (Okay, pushing it, but they were an inspiration to the likes of Nirvana and the other Grungers, and this is one of their more straight Hard Rock albums...); Godflesh - Pure; Screaming Trees - Uncle Anasthaesia

1991 - Ministry - Psalm 69; Nine Inch Nails - Broken; Paradise Lost - Gothic; RHCP - BloodSugarSexMagik; Type O Negative - Slow, Deep and Hard; Hole - Pretty on the Inside

1992 - Soundgarden - Badmotorfinger; Paradise Lost - Shades of God; Screaming Trees - Sweet Oblivion; L7 - Bricks Are Heavy; Faith No More - Angel Dust; Tool - Undertow; Fear Factory - Soul of a New Machine; Babes In Toyland - Fontanelle; Sonic Youth - Dirty
