Chart Commentary

 

 

While Troye Sivan holds firm at #1 for a third week, we see him blocking a second song from reaching the top spot. Zedd settles for his highest position since 2014 chart-topper Break Free, as The Middle climbs 16 places to #2 in its first full week. The song immediately outperformed his previous two singles, Stay (#26) and Get Low (#40), in its first week despite only being available a matter of days. The song is a collaboration with American country star Maren Morris, who shockingly scores her first hit despite me being a fan of My Church and 80s Mercedes! DJ duo Grey are also on board, and they achieve their highest chart position to date.

Releasing a surprise new single just a couple of months after their last album, Norwegian twins Marcus & Martinus score their second top 10 hit and match their best position of #3. Remind Me instantly matches the #3 debut of previous single Make You Believe in Love, and is their fourth top 20 hit overall. It's unclear whether Remind Me is for the Moments campaign or not, as it follows the same aesthetic but there is no news on a re-issue or a late inclusion!

Becoming the second Fifth Harmony member to score a solo hit, Ally Brooke has teamed up with German DJ Topic for a song called Perfect, which debuts at #4 this week. This is actually one place higher than Camila's first single charted, as Shawn Mendes collaboration I Know What You Did Last Summer peaked at #5 (eventually). However, Camila has of course achieved a huge #2 hit with Havana, and her debut solo single Crying in the Club peaked at #4. Perfect has outcharted any Fifth Harmony single since their last #1 hit All In My Head (Flex) in mid-2016. However, as a soloist, Perfect is Ally's first hit and also Topic's first too!

Completing the huge clear-out of the top 10 this week, Julia Michaels achieves her third top 10 hit. Heaven is another song from the forthcoming Fifty Shades Freed soundtrack, and the second of which to chart, joining the lead single For You by Liam Payne & Rita Ora in this week's top 10. Whilst Heaven hasn't gone to #1 like For You did, it still makes an impressive #10 debut. It outpeaks Julia's debut single Issues, but lags behind the follow-up Uh Huh and her biggest hit to date, I Miss You, with Clean Bandit - an unlucky two-week #2 behind Rita Ora's huge hit Anywhere.
