I’m pretty sure childish gambimo - 3005 sucks bc it’s not referencing anything that will happen 1000 years from now xx

jay Sean - 2012 sucks bc the world didn’t end in 2012 xx

Nice try, but referencing the past and referencing the future are clearly 2 different things. It is far easier to be accurate with the former.

Sure people would be listening to older songs at the time, I used to. But it just throws me that they title a track after a specific year and then fail to mention any reference from the time. It’s not as if anything else about the song screams 2002 either.

If you like it, you like it. But others don’t.

It might as well have considering how much it's gone to shit ever since ;o x

Regardless of how dodgy her references are, I'm ADORING this - I'd welcome this being her biggest (solo) hit

So what's track 16 on this album then if '2002' is 10 on the album tracklisting?

'2002' has helped Anne Marie go #1 on Pre-orders on iTunes, I'm guessing 'Speak Your Mind' will debut in the top two and could possibly debut at number one considering how well '2002' has started doing.

Read somewhere that ‘track 16’ was Peak. Makes sense as we ha e the ‘Stripped’ version of it already.

i'm pretty sure they don't really care much about fact-checking this song, they just wanted to make a catchy pop song.

on top of all of the songs that weren't released in 2002; anne-marie is british & they didn't make mustangs for the UK in 2002...

I could've guessed this was an Ed Sheeran co-write given how utterly heinous and clunky the lyrics are. Not quite 'Castle on the Hill' level, but still horrible. Can't wait for radio to rinse it for months on end.

I don't think this really *sounds* much like an Ed Sheeran song tbh (apart from maybe the instrumental), you can tell it's written by Ed though because it sounds like one of his trash throwaway songs with awful lyrics that he gives to other artists a la 'Little Things'. Having said that, I actually really liked 'Little Things'. This... not so much. Anne-Marie's delivery just seems to really irritate me and the chorus just comes off super cringeworthy. Yet another big Anne-Marie hit that's going to get very annoying very quickly...

She clearly has it in her to make decent songs (I liked 'Then' a lot in particular) but the public only seem to latch onto the more obnoxious ones :(

the melody, twee sentimentalistic insincerity is textbook sheeran bre

the weird WISTFUL reminiscent tone he strikes musically which is a total lie (didn’t he fake a girlfriend from galway, a dead mother etc)

the song having NOTHING to do with the year 2002, and references songs before (baby one more time for eg) the year itself

it may seem like a casual overhead, a misnomer but really it’s an insincere triteness; take some pride in your artistry and integrity

Christ and people go on about Jess Glynne being a target for Buzzjack
Hyperbole levels are off the scale in this thread

It’s called an opinion  she’s had two good songs and I’ve hated everything else she’s done, that makes her one of the worst modern pop girls anyway.

I'd agree with this for most other artists but in all honesty, I don't expect anything more than a synthetic, lyrically shallow track from the mainstream pop girls, Anne-Marie included.

I get where you're coming from in terms of the lack of creative direction but she's more reliant on the charm of the track, and looking past the rather major flaws of the song I can kind of appreciate it in the sense that it IS a cute bop that I'll keep replaying because it's got a certain catchiness to it, and she IS talented enough to execute this without it sounding piss poor.

This offends me more with its lyrical inaccuracy than it does in any other way; it makes me feel quite uncomfortable  so that’s a different reason to not be enjoying an Anne-Marie release. I agree re: the lyrical integrity here.

Also another song that makes it a struggle to understand what Anne-Marie’s identity is.

I think Anne-Marie actually has a fair amount of creative direction, but I've had the benefit of hearing a few of the album tracks live. I'd say only Heavy so far doesn't really fit her usual vibe as it's a standard run-of-the-mill tropical track, and with the album tracks thrown in too, I think the album will end up being a pretty cohesive listen. Certainly more so than Zara whose album was a complete mish-mash, as was Rita's debut release for example.

I think it's a perfectly acceptable criticism to challenge the inaccuracy of the lyrics. If you're putting out a track literally referencing a specific year a few extra minutes on Wikipedia wouldn't have gone amiss.

But hey there's a lot worse out there in fairness...
