April 23, 20187 yr I think Anne-Marie actually has a fair amount of creative direction, but I've had the benefit of hearing a few of the album tracks live. I'd say only Heavy so far doesn't really fit her usual vibe as it's a standard run-of-the-mill tropical track, and with the album tracks thrown in too, I think the album will end up being a pretty cohesive listen. Certainly more so than Zara whose album was a complete mish-mash, as was Rita's debut release for example. That's basically it, I agree - seeing her live would give the average listener a LOT more context as to who she is as a person but I don't think this track is TRYING to be anything more than just a generic bop. Doesn't necessarily mean she has no artistry and integrity as a singer; just as is the case with any mainstream pop girl, she's got to put her name on the map somehow, and unfortunately given how narrow-minded the GP are in 2018, this is her best bet of getting success.
April 23, 20187 yr You don’t *have* to listen to the song lmao Nope but can still have an opinion on it :P
April 23, 20187 yr Bowling for Soup - 1985 is the best year-referencing song. That's a great song, I've gotta give that band some love! They are amazing live too!
April 23, 20187 yr But people here are getting so worked up it’s ridiculous  They're just not though
April 23, 20187 yr But people here are getting so worked up it’s ridiculous  Not really. People pointed out reasons they don’t like a song. The worked up people appear to be the ones rushing in and telling people that they don’t have to listen.

April 23, 20187 yr I don't think this really *sounds* much like an Ed Sheeran song tbh (apart from maybe the instrumental), you can tell it's written by Ed though because it sounds like one of his trash throwaway songs with awful lyrics that he gives to other artists a la 'Little Things'.Nah, the lyrics are pretty textbook Ed despite them not being as cringeworthy as Louis’ verse on Little Things. The song itself is a “could be better, could be worse” level, which is kinda upsetting for Anne-Marie bc the song quality is probably the most inconsistent for a new artist that I’ve seen. There’s stuff like “Friends” and hen there’s stuff like “Heavy” and “Then” which got old rather quickly, and this falls within the latter. To Ed’s credit though... “Ride Wit Me” is a 2002 song.
April 23, 20187 yr To Ed’s credit though... “Ride Wit Me” is a 2002 song. it was the third single off of ‘country grammar’ (2000) and was released as a single in march 2001 i didn’t realise his debut was so late?! Edited April 23, 20187 yr by jjake
April 23, 20187 yr Lyrically the song is ‘nostalgia packaged for a US audience’ and coming from a British singer and written by a British artist, it jars and smacks of desperation for a hit in that market. But, it’s an incredibly catchy song that’s been in my head since the first listen - I really like the melody and she sounds good on it and that’s enough for me to enjoy it. I sort of wonder how the chorus would have sounded if Ed had just referenced actual UK hits from 2002 though: “Just a little less conversation, I’m in heaven when I kiss kiss your mouth. I wanna get underneath your clothes, anything is possible now (would you be my girlfriend?). “You’re the world’s greatest, ain’t it funny that’s my point of view, dilemma and hero - Enrique and Kroeger times two, take me back to 2002”.
April 23, 20187 yr bORRM0LNa6s Just leaving this here to give Ed and Anne-Marie some inspiration. Though they’d still probably choose Kylie :drama:
April 23, 20187 yr “I can see us standing in the rain, kissing like Peter and Mary Jane” aside: has it really been that long since Spider Man 2? Jesus.
April 23, 20187 yr “I can see us standing in the rain, kissing like Peter and Mary Jane” aside: has it really been that long since Spider Man 2? Jesus. 2002 was Spiderman 1 - I remember going to see it at the cinema on my birthday with the handsome Canadian boy from school
