BEST SCORE

XVG0kc5.png

01. La La Land (10 / 0)
02. Call Me By Your Name (4 / 4)
03. Dunkirk (1 / 4)
04. Blade Runner 2049 (1 / 2)
05. Star Wars: The Last Jedi (1 / 1)
06. Jackie (0 / 5)

And let's kick off with by far the biggest landslide of the night and possibly the biggest ever landslide at Buzzjack Oscars! :o

Winning easily with double figures is of course the Oscar winning score by Justin Hurwitz for La La Land <3 <3 This score is just a masterpiece and elevates the film to even more greatness. The highlight is ofc the 7 minute Epilogue which is one of my favourite ever score pieces of all time & I've constantly been listening to the score ever since the film was released!

In runner up is Buzzjack fave Call Me By Your Name who's score if I'm honest I didn't love too much but it was solid, as ever this picked up a lot of support with 4 votes in 1st & 2nd preference votes. In third place is another Oscar nominee, Dunkirk, and the score is an integral part of the film and works fantastically with the action that is occurring. 3rd to 5th all picked up 1 first preference vote each and in 4th was Blade Runner 2049 (which I've not seen so haven't heard the score) and another classic John Williams Star Wars score comes in 5th! In 6th place unfortunately is Jackie, which despite picking up a lot of support from 2nd preference votes (including mine), fails to gain a 1st preference vote. Outside of Portman's performance, the score is the strongest aspect of the film for me.

This is the 1st year of this category so what a winner to start this category off with *.*

BEST SONG

01. The Greatest Showman - Keala Settle - This Is Me (6 / 4)
02. Call Me By Your Name - Sufjan Stevens - Mystery Of Love (4 / 1)
03. La La Land - Ryan Gosling & Emma Stone - City of Stars (3 / 1)
04. The Greatest Showman - Hugh Jackman, Keala Settle, Zac Efron, Zendaya & Ensemble - The Greatest Show (2 / 2)
05. The Greatest Showman - Zac Efron & Zendaya - Rewrite The Stars (1 / 3)
06. Call Me By Your Name - Sufjan Stevens - Visions of Gideon (1 / 2)
07. La La Land - Ryan Gosling & Emma Stone - A Lovely Night (1 / 1)

Two awards in, two different musicals are now Buzzjack Oscar winners :cheer:

The 2nd winner comes from Keala Settle's incredible This Is Me from current phenomenon The Greatest Showman. Keala's vocal is absolutely something else and I'm really hoping this picks up the Oscar tonight! This has turned into a massive hit and peaked at #3 in the UK after another showstopping Graham Norton performance and this song is incredible lyrically and vocally. And this is a massive improvement on last years winner *.* (can't stop the feeling, ew.)

With three films dominating this category, they all spread out quite evenly! In 2nd place was Mystery of Love, the main theme of Call Me By Your Name, which was leading at one point but couldn't keep up with This Is Me in the end. And taking bronze is La La Land's Oscar winning City of Stars which was one of my favourite songs of last year <3 The other two Greatest Showman songs take 4th and 5th and both also slay & are UK top 40 hits *.* In 6th is the 2nd Call Me By Your Name song with Visions of Gideon and in 7th place is A Lovely Night which I love but idk how that got nominated as I'd put it near the worst on the La La Land soundtrack! Every song managed to pick up at least one 1st preference vote *.*

I felt so sick not being able to vote for 'What A Lovely Night' :( SCREW YOU SHOWMAN!!!

(Oh and I think I went for The Greatest Show in 1st and This Is Me 2nd! Surprisingly)

BEST SOUNDTRACK

01. The Greatest Showman (5 / 2)
02. Call Me By Your Name (5 / 1)
03. La La Land (2 / 6)
04. Baby Driver (2 / 4)
05. Beauty & The Beast (2 / 1)
06. Pitch Perfect 3 (1 / 2)

And in one of the closest battles of the evening, The Greatest Showman takes its 2nd win of the evening!

The Greatest Showman soundtrack has turned into something of a phenomenon recently with it breaking records everywhere and has been on top of the UK's chart for pretty much the whole year! It's so well deserved as all the songs are incredible and this really has the makings of a classic musical. The three songs nominated for Best Song here are my highlights <3 And also this is WAY better than last years winner in this category (Suicide Squad, how in the af did that happen?)

Meaning just missing out in 2nd place for the 3rd time this evening is Call Me By Your Name which missed out marginally by one 2nd preference vote. I liked the soundtrack but it wasn't my favourite. In 3rd place is La La Land which is my favourite here & deserved better. I've had the soundtrack on repeat non-stop since last year & still listen to it 24/7, this was actually 4th for ages so I'm glad it finally managed to get bronze because it got so many 2nd preference votes!! In 4th is music-driven Baby Driver where the music is great (ofc cause it's an Edgar Wright selected soundtrack) & works perfectly in setting the mood of the film. That means the bottom two consists of Michael's faves Beauty & The Beast (another solid Disney soundtrack adaptation) and Pitch Perfect 3 (Freedom '90 & Toxic>>>>the rest) which doesn't quite hit the heights of the 1st two but is still very good!
Ahhh so happy The Greatest Showman won! Easily my favourite album of the year so far - just puts me in such a good mood when I listen to it!

As with previous years, we've done the write-ups for this years Best Pic nominees and the turnout this year has been great!! Thanks so much to everyone that has helped and I hope you enjoy these & they convince y'all to check these films out! I think every film has at least one now apart from Beauty & The Beast (Michael do u still want to do that?)

Let's get going *.*

BEST PICTURE: NOMINEE #1

Jonjo:

Taika Waititi is a GOD. That's literally all you need to know tbh. He's responsible for the incredible What We Do In The Shadows and the fantastic Hunt For the Wilderpeople, but when announced to helm the next Thor movie, I was really concerned and unsure as to how his style and specific humour would fit/wondered if he'd even have his humour allowed into the MCU. It turned out that I had no reason to be concerned. Taika has a certain charm to not only his unique directing style, but to his writing. It takes someone special to really excel and deliver his comedy. He hit gold with both Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo. Then adding very welcome new additions to the MCU in Tessa Thompson, Cate Blanchett and Jeff Goldblum as well as HIMSELF. Korg is literally right up there with Groot for me! WHAT A FANTASTICALLY ADORABLE AND GENIUS CHARACTER! But yeah, I THINK this is in my top 5 MCU movies.
Nightcrawler:

In 2008, the Marvel Cinematic Universe began with the release of the first Iron Man film. Nearly a decade on and Marvel are showing no signs of slowing down, having released three blockbuster movies in 2017 alone. Thor: Ragnarok, the third (and without a doubt, the best) film in the Thor trilogy, is Marvel at its best: a strong story line, powerful action scenes, a great cast and hilarious one-liners ("Oh my god...your hammer pulled you off?"). I felt really concerned as I sat down to watch this for the first time - the previous two Thor movies had left much to be desired - but from the opening scene, I was hooked. Chris Hemsworth finally gets to show off his comedic timing; Cate Blanchett solves Marvel's long-time villain problem with her wickedly brilliant portrayal of Hela, the Goddess of Death and Jeff Goldblum plays the Grandmaster as only Goldblum could. Even director Taika Waititi gets to join in on the fun as the incredibly funny Korg (an alien made out of rocks) and actually ends up stealing the show with his dead-pan one-liners. Whether you're into comic book films or not, this is the ultimate buddy (superhero) road trip (through space) movie with something for everyone (including a gratuitous shirtless scene of Chris Hemsworth. You're welcome.)

Perry's write-up

Would love for Thor: Ragnarok to win. Such a strong year for contenders in best pic tbh!

Chris Hemsworth often feels like a "movie star" rather than an "Actor" for me, but with this movie I finally got to see him as an actor and I loved it.

Ragnarok is up there with Winter Solider and Days of Future Past as my fave superhero movie tbh.

BEST HORROR

DCyQ7Ow.png

01. Get Out (6 / 1)
02. mother! (4 / 2)
03. It (3 / 3)
04. Happy Death Day (2 / 2)
05. Split (1 / 5)

And Oscar-nominated Get Out picks up its first award tonight in our first genre award of the evening!

Get Out is a fantastic film that blends together multiple genres (as shown by it scoring noms in 3 categories for genres) and even though bits of it are scary, there's three films here that I prefer way more to it and found scarier so I'm kinda gutted this won! Still a great film though and takes the crown from last year's winner 10 Cloverfield Lane which is also fab.

In 2nd place is one of my favourite films of 2017 with mother! getting quite a lot of support. The film is something else and even though it may not be too much of a horror, the third act is scarier than anything else released in 2017. And in 3rd place is It which I'm really shocked didn't come closer to challenging for the win. This is the only film here that properly scared me and I was jumping (& screaming :kink:) in my seat throughout the whole film, Pennywise was something else. In 4th place was another of my favourite films of 2017, teen-horror Happy Death Day which was more of a horror-comedy but did provide some scares and was a fantastic film. Meaning in last place is Split which gets a lot of 2nd preference votes but only one 1st preference vote. I did really like Split but I definitely prefer the other 4 films here so I'm glad it came last!

Thanks! Though truth be told, I had to read yours first to get inspiration

Thor: Ragnarok is one of my favourite Marvel films of all time, so I'm glad it's getting love here. :yahoo:

BEST COMEDY

XywJ8Wy.png

01. The Big Sick (5 / 3)
02. La La Land (4 / 2)
03. Kingsman: The Secret Service (3 / 3)
04. Girls Trip (2 / 3)
05. Pitch Perfect 3 (2 / 2)

I'm so f***ing glad The Big Sick won something here <3 <3 What a winner. *.*

The Big Sick is one of my favourite films of 2017 and the film perfectly blends drama and comedy fantastically and is absolutely hilarious, I was laughing throughout the film and the performances were so funny & sfg. This is definitely a future classic for me and I'm shocked how much support it got on here and this is a perfect surprise winner *.* This is a million, billion times better than last year's winner Deadpool.

In 2nd place is ofc my fave La La Land but I can't even be gutted that it lost considering it was The Big Sick that won *.* LLL was leading for nearly the entire time but slipped at the last minute! The film has some fabulous comedic moments, in particular the 'I Ran' scene <3 In 3rd place is Kingsman which also did better than I expected; I didn't find it too funny apart from Elton John's performance which was something else. Girls Trip was also hilarious and I'm glad it picked up some votes here, the performances in particular made this film. And in last is PP3 which I still haven't seen but I thought it would do better than this oops.
