March 4, 20187 yr 'The Big Sick' is super cute. A very well deserved nomination. Kumail is a breath of fresh air! Timothée winning wasn't a surprise, but I thought it'd be between him, Zendaya and Daniel. So I'm surprised to see Tiffany finish 2nd.
March 4, 20187 yr Author BEST ACTION FILM 01. Baby Driver (6 / 0) 02. Wonder Woman (4 / 7) 03. Thor: Ragnarok (4 / 3) 04. Spider-Man: Hoecoming (1 / 4) 05. Power Rangers (1 / 1) What a fabulous winner as Baby Driver is 4th genre film to scoop up a genre award tonight *.* Baby Driver is one of my favourite films of 2017 also and I'm so glad with how much support it received here. I'm surprised it won this but its so deserved as its incredible <3 This takes over from Captain America: Civil War winning last winner and is a much better winner than that (tho I presume I'm in the minority there :kink:) In 2nd place is Wonder Woman that picked up a hella lot of support (including a massive 7 2nd preference noms!!) but couldn't get to the gold just and Thor is just behind with the same amount of 1st preference votes. I'm rly shocked neither of those or Spider-Man (which underwhelmed in 4th with only one first preference vote) took the win here. And finishing dead last here is the very underrated Power Rangers but I suppose it was always doomed in this category </3
March 4, 20187 yr Boooo! The first one I'm actually low key upset about lmao. :( I did enjoy it, but it's def one of the more overrated films of last year for me. The chemistry between Ansel and Lily though was fantastic! 'Power Rangers' is very good. Hopefully with the sequel we get to see them in action a bit more! Underrated.
March 4, 20187 yr Author BEST SCI-FI/THRILLER FILM: 01. Get Out (5 / 1) 02. Blade Runner 2049 (5 / 0) 03. Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 (3 / 5) 04. Thor: Ragnarok (3 / 3) 05. Star Wars: The Last Jedi (1 / 5) In a surprise, Get Out picks up its 2nd genre win of the evening, just!. Get Out is a fantastic thriller film and is definitely beyond tense throughout. I'm quite surprised this won here against the two superhero films and the two sci-fi films tbh. This was also 2nd for most of the time but snatched the win on the last vote! This is Get Out's 2nd genre win of the night (after horror) and takes over from last years' Buzzjack fave Arrival. In 2nd place and just missing out on the win was Sci-Fi Blade Runner 2049 that I still haven't seen but I feel it would've been an inspired winner here. Superhero flicks Guardians 2 and Thor 3 are divided based on 2nd preference votes and both do pretty well as other whereas Star Wars 8 finishes a distant last, a far cry away from its predecessor's win in this category which shows that Buzzjack feels pretty much the same as the rest of the world in regards to SW8.

I'm really hoping a sequel happens! Has there been any news about it lately?

Agreed - gutted that a superhero film didn’t win! :(
March 4, 20187 yr Author BEST PICTURE: NOMINEE #5 Ultraviolence: Another one of my big favourites of 2017, Baby Driver is incredible and thrilling film that has your attention throughout the film. This is another classic Edgar Wright film with fantastic direction, a killer soundtrack and a fantastic script. The sound and the editing were incredible and both scored well deserved Oscar noms (hopefully it'll pick up a win) and the ensemble is also incredible, in particular Elgort & James as the leads <3 I loved this film and I saw this in America where it was filmed and parts of the film were literally places we'd walked in to get to the cinema which was cool af *.*
March 4, 20187 yr That should've been Blade Runner's :( (Slight aside but why are 'Sci-Fi & Thriller grouped together when, they're quite different genres no? Sorry for the nitpick, you're doing great so far!)
March 4, 20187 yr Author BEST POSTER FOR A MOVIE RELEASED IN 2017: 01. La La Land (5 / 1) 02. It (4 / 7) 03. mother! (4 / 3) 04. Call Me By Your Name (4 / 2) 05. Get Out (0 / 0) In one of the closest categories of the night, La La Land just wins in a massive four way battle! Another win for La La Land and so well deserved *.* The posters for this movie were something else and are absolutely gorgeous and highlight the beautiful cinematography of the film <3 This is the 1st year of this category so this is the 2nd category in which La La Land is the 1st ever winner of! Just behind are horror flicks It & mother! which had striking marketing with Pennywise and stuff like the heart in the mother! posters. Both are incredible and mother!'s 1st poster is probs my favourite of 2017. Just behind them in 4th is Call Me By Your Name which has good posters but nothing too out-of-the-ordinary so I'm surprised how well it did. And Get Out is probably deserving of its last place here but it really bombs as it's the 2nd film tonight to get no votes in 1st or 2nd preferences. This seems to either be winning or coming last in every category so far!
March 4, 20187 yr Author That should've been Blade Runner's :( (Slight aside but why are 'Sci-Fi & Thriller grouped together when, they're quite different genres no? Sorry for the nitpick, you're doing great so far!) idek tbh! I think that was just how it was originally suggested so it just stayed like that but we can def looking into changing it round next year if other people agree!
March 4, 20187 yr Nope. No news on a sequel yet. Hopefully soon though! That top poster for IT! Is so good. Very creepy! But yyyyaaas for LLL! Stunning posters. Both of them. Oh and I'd bundle Thriller with either Action or Horror next year tbh.
March 4, 20187 yr Author BEST PERFORMANCE OF THE ENTIRE YEAR: 01. Call Me By Your Name - Timothee Chalamet (6 / 1) 02. Split - James McAvoy (4 / 2) 03. Jackie - Natalie Portman (3 / 2) 04. Baby Driver - Ansel Elgort (2 / 4) 05. mother! - Jennifer Lawrence (1 / 3) 06. Beauty & The Beast - Emma Watson (1 / 0) 07. Call Me By Your Name - Armie Hammer (0 / 3) And Timothee wins his 654th award of the night. There's absolutely no surprise that Timothee won this considering how beloved he is on buzzjack. It is a great performance but I'd probably have him 5th here personally (I've seen all 7 performances for once!). Anyway he was always leading this and took this category pretty easily! This is also a new category this year *.* In 2nd place is a massive shock as its James McAvoy who couldn't even get a nomination in Best Actor :o Anyway he has a lot of fans here as he gets four 1st preference votes which shows how big his snub was in actor! In 3rd is the only female in the top 3, queen Natalie Portman who completely slayed everything in Jackie and gave a phenomenal performance. Ansel Elgort & J-Law take 4th and 5th for two of my favourite performances of 2017 & Emma Watson's lead in B&TB scored a vote at the last minute to save herself from last place! That means in probably one of the biggest shocks of the night, Buzzjack's fave Armie Hammer in Buzzjack's fave CMBYN comes in last place and is the only nominee that failed to pick up any 1st preference votes :o He deserved better here.
March 4, 20187 yr Natalie Portman and James McAvoy were robbed in that category! :( But I guess Timothée did a fantastic job... but I definitely preferred the other 2 performances.
March 4, 20187 yr Author BEST PICTURE: NOMINEE #6 Michael: Beauty and the Beast is a 2017 adaptation of the Disney animation of the same name (1991). It stars perennial 'good girl', Emma Watson, as Belle, with newcomer and hipster Dan Stevens starring opposite her in two roles: the Beast and Non-Beast Prince, respectively. It is a big-name affair, counting the voice talents of Luke Evans, Ewan McGregor and Emma Thompson within its cast. These stars gave convincing portrayals of the characters, although it has to be said that no one quite came close to the heights offered by Angela Lansbury's voice-over as 'Mrs. Potts' in the 1991 original animation. Emma Watson famously discussed bringing more 'feminist' elements to the role and the film as a whole. We can see in this, and in the allusions to gay characters, Gaston and the more openly-gay Lefou, a more modern affair than its original. The film treads familiar ground, with very little of the plot or backgrounds deviating wildly from the original. All of the characters have returned, the dialogue is similar, songs have not been tinkered with, and the plot follows the same arc and events, although this is to be expected. Whilst there are small additions here and there and extra scenes, the fact is it is a warm tribute, comfortable as an old pair of slippers. I think this film may have surprised a lot of people who may have doubted the results of an animation to live-action remake of a Disney classic. Certainly, the 1.2 billion worldwide Box Office haul stands to show the popularity of this remake. Beauty and the Beast is at heart a love story, but it also dabbles in exploring the world of misfits. In the first scene, we are introduced to the witch who curses the prince and his rich subjects for refusing to grant her shelter from the storm, a clash of two worlds, rich and poor. If this scene weren't evidence enough, we have the main character, Belle. In this revamped version, Belle is, like her father, an inventor, rather than a dainty Disney princess. She invents a machine that allows her more time to read and teach other young girls how to read, a moment of empowerment. However, this efficient invention is destroyed by the townsfolk, who view it, and the teaching of girls the ability to read, as a threat. Belle is ostracised in this way from her small-town provincial community, which is full of women searching for marriage and little else. Those who eschew the traditional country town's way of life, Belle and the witch, are forgotten and relegated to a marginal existence. Lastly, but perhaps most obviously, we have the Beast himself. He is set apart from the rest of the town, locked away in a castle, due to his non-conformity, here expressed in his appearance. The film follows the life of Belle, a local inventor and bookworm. Whilst reading, inventing, teaching, and doing daily chores, Belle is chased relentlessly by eat-eating Gaston. Gaston is determined to have Belle as his trophy wife, noting that if she refuses she will be forgotten, just like the other maidens in the town. Belle refuses. After her father goes missing, Belle, replete in her riding boots, sets off to find him. What she discovers is another world from that which she knows back in the village. She finds a castle with a Beast and inanimate objects which become ... animate. She finds her father, locked up by the Beast for all time for stealing a white rose for Belle, and offers herself up as a prisoner in his stead. The father escapes and rushes back to the village with wild stories of a beast in the woods. Gaston uses this to his advantage and has the old man sent to a mental institute, in an effort to leave Belle destitute and dependent ... on Gaston. This act immediately paints the, otherwise hapless but unlikable alpha male, Gaston as the key antagonist. What happens then is the classic 'tale as old as time': Belle escapes, only for the Beast to come to her rescue and be injured in the process. Instead of abandoning him to die, Belle takes him back to the castle and consents to be his prisoner, helping to care for him. There is one caveat, however, an ominous shadow: the Beast must find true love. That is the main stipulation, the curse-breaker. If he does not find true love by the time the petals fall from a red rose, he will become a beast forever, losing his humanity. His friends, the objects, will become objects, as we see with Plumette growing more feathers and the castle walls crumbling as the petals fall. This is seen by some as a problematic part of the tale. There are some unable to distinguish the plot and subsequent romance from Stockholm Syndrome, a syndrome in which a captive develops feelings for their captors. However, I believe this misses the real point of Beauty and the Beast: true love conquers all. Belle had amble opportunity to escape, but she does not take it. She decides to stay and help, not through obligation, but through kind-hardheartedness. One of her pivotal lines is, 'can a person truly love if they are not free?' This sets up the Beast, returned to strength, allowing her to go and bringing us to the final, dramatic moments of the movie. The film is a colourful explosion of special effects, wardrobe and an exploration of vividness. All the scenes are crisp, sharp, and with bright, Disney colours at the forefront. Whilst not surprising, it is still heartwarming to see Belle dancing around the ballroom in her quintessential yellow Disney dress. Another highlight is the music. The original Disney songs have not been altered much, but the songs explode into life with larger than life production. The only distraction here is Emma Thompson's forced Cockney accent in the songs. Aside from this, the voice acting, like the songs, is top-notch cinema. All in all, it is a modern and dramatic reworking of a Disney classic and an absolute fan favourite. Verdict? A must-see, and fun for all the family.
March 4, 20187 yr Author BEST VOICE PERFORMANCE: FEMALE: 01. Beauty & The Beast – Emma Thompson (5 / 1) 02. Sing – Reese Witherspoon (3 / 4) 03. Despicable Me 3 – Kristen Wiig (3 / 2) 04. Loving Vincent – Saoirse Ronan (2 / 3) 05. Paddington 2 – Imelda Staunton (1 / 2) 06. Sing – Tori Kelly (0 / 1) Rejoice Michael, as Beauty & The Beast finally picks up an award! Emma Thompson voiced the iconic Mrs Potts in Beauty & The Beast and sung the titular theme and was great as ever. It's not my favourite in this category but she took this quite easily with five 1st preference votes! She takes over from Ellen DeGeneres' iconic turn as Dory winning last year. In 2nd place is my favourite here with Reese Witherspoon's iconic pig from Sing who sings Shake It Off and is an epic mom *.* Reese & Kristen both did pretty well here, the latter scoring another nom for her iconic turn as Lucy. In 4th is the very inspired nom of QoL Saoirse Ronan for Loving Vincent which had way more support than I was expecting it to have on here. Imelda Staunton's turn as Aunt Lucy in critically acclaimed Paddington 2 also had some support whilst Tori Kelly's elephant in Sing is the only performance to not gain any 1st preference votes here.
