Duran Duran tribute album – US Urban acts cover 1980s UK Pop giants.

A host of US acts are to pay tribute to Duran Duran on the charity tribute album “Urban Renewal 2†due for release in June 2006 on LaFace records in the USA.

 

This tribute album will be the follow up to “Urban Renewal†where the likes of Pink, Monica, Brandy & Bones,Thugs’N’Harmony covered the songs of Phil Collins back in 2001.

 

Dallas Austin who produced Duran Duran’s last studio album “Astronaut†(2004), is the executive producer of this project, he said “Duran Duran were the most influential pop band of the first-half of the 1980s & frequently attempted to fuse (then) contemporary Black American & White European styles of music to create a soundtrack to the 1980s. They were the first white band to regular name check the likes of Prince, Run DMC, Chaka Khan, Cameo & Grandmaster Flash, Melle Mel & the Furious Five at a time when Urban & Pop music were two disparate musical genres.â€Â

 

Certainly the roster of artists appearing on this tribute album back’s that statement up. It features Chuck D & Flavor Flav of Public Enemy returning the favor of when Duran Duran covered “911 is a Joke†on their 1995 “Thank You†covers album, whilst this album will contain the first appearances for sometime of the Fugees & the surviving members of TLC.
