August 31, 20186 yr LKi7WYasA6w The second single. Is it too soon to say this is her best since the Blown Away era? A relevant message put across so brilliantly, with killer vocals as always
August 31, 20186 yr Yeah it's great, I feel this album will be brilliant. Cry Pretty has now become my favourite song of hers in over a decade, still obsessed with it.
August 31, 20186 yr Author Love Wins is soooo much better than Cry Pretty, that grew on me a lot but I haven't returned to it as much as I should for a Carrie lead. This is much more like it:wub:
September 7, 20186 yr From the 90 second clips of the album on iTunes, the album sounds solid! The Bullet and Spinning Bottles 💙
September 14, 20186 yr Author Quick first listen rate/mini review:Â 10 Cry Pretty (this has grown on me a lot since being a bit disappointed with it as a single, as a single it does really set the tone for the album and its themes I think) 07.5 Ghosts On The Stereo 08 Low (quite Maren Morris, a potential single I think that could anchor some awards success and lend itself to performances, it's safe enough for country radio to lap up but stand-out enough to be remembered too) 09 Backsliding (this would really work as a single! It's got that Sam Hunt/Maren Morris slight R&B edge that seems to be popular on radio) 10 Southbound (a BOP, a pop-rock summery anthem) 08 That Song We Used To Make Love To 07.5 Drinking Alone (again a bit Maren Morris, the sort of R&B ish motown-ness to the production and the rhythm) 10 The Bullet (wow, I had tears listening to this, it's so instantly striking and hits home on a really important issue) 09 Spinning Bottles (this would fit on Storyteller I feel, that sort of downtrodden woman story type song) 10 Love Wins (obv an anthem, very Carrie with a great message 03.5 End Up With You (surely her weakest song to date, there's just nothing to it and it feels like something sort of Spotify filler you would find on New Music Friday at the bottom and never listen to again, it's just not her at all and not in a good way) 09 Kingdom (this builds incredibly, love it) 09.5 The Champion (obv doesn't really fit the album but it's just a bonus track, but I looooove it for what it is, to hear Carrie on something totally different and it's an anthem regardless)Â Â Despite loving Cry Pretty and Love Wins, I wasn't sure waht to expect with this but I'm really really pleased with this  She's really growing as an artist, Storyteller was great as sort of a continuation from Blown Away and its style, but this feels like the next step onwards with a few more risks and variation, she's exploring some trends and more current production/melodies we've been hearing in country, but it all still (except EUWY) feels at its core like Carrie. Can't choose a fave, I think The Bullet stands out a lot on first listen but Cry Pretty, Love Wins and Southbound will endure as well!
September 14, 20186 yr Didn’t even know this was out today. On first listen ‘The bullet’ & ‘spinning bottles’ & ‘backsliding’ stand out.
September 14, 20186 yr On first listen it’s bettee than Storyteller however I think it’ll be a grower as it’s not very instant. Love wins is easily the best song
September 16, 20186 yr Yeah I'm enjoying this more than I thought too  The Bullet is absolutely phenomenal. It's classic Carrie storytelling and would slot in perfectly amongst Carnival Ride, but I love how topical it is. Such a great statement, in a beautiful track. Also really liking Backsliding, Southbound, Kingdom and Spinning Bottles, and I must disagree with Liam and say End Up With You is brilliant! It's definitely more Ed Sheeran-like but I think it still sounds very Carrie and I can see myself revisiting it a lot.
September 17, 20186 yr 07.5 Cry Pretty still not hooked on this like other carrie singles. Its alright but don't go back to it much 07 Ghosts On The Stereo did not make much impact on me 07.5 Low Again like the last song didn't hit me like the rest of the album did. 10 Backsliding I LOVED this song. Feels really fresh for her!! 10 Southbound two 10's in a row. I love the country rock pop combo 06 The Song We Used To Make Love To Its okay but I don't remember much about it. 09 Drinking Alone this reminds me of Maren Morris meets Rihanna Love On The Brain but in the best way 10 The Bullet WOW Blown away by how moving and sad this song is. She is really a fantastic storyteller and songwriter. 08 Spinning Bottles Really good could grow in time too. 10 Love Wins A really positive song. Can see why this was single 2. 06 End Up With You I would say this is my least fave on the album as It didnt impact me much. 07 Kingdom Nice "finisher" if you exclude the bonus track. 08 Champion feat. Ludacris different for her but suits her vocals a lot.
September 17, 20186 yr Can y'all stop shading the title track please? It's so good! But yeah, 'Love Wins' is def better and 'Bullet' well, I can't really add anything new to what's already been said. I nearly cried listening to it... AT WORK! FFS.
September 17, 20186 yr Agreed on the title track, it's actually my favourite Carrie song since Jesus Take The Wheel! Amazed so many people aren't really into it, she sounds incredible on it and it's so powerful. Edited September 17, 20186 yr by gooddelta
September 17, 20186 yr LOVE the album - although i absolutely adore Cry Pretty & Love Wins so my expectations were already pretty high. As well as Cry Pretty, Drinking Alone, Low,The Bullet, Southbound & Kingdom. And seeing her interview from yesterday has made 'Cry Pretty' seem even more poignant.
