Xtina breaking Spotify is actually plausible tbh, she is basically a virus.

I doubt it. Last big hit she had was in 2014 with A Great Big World

Why? Let me guess.. it’s because 2002 is song #1.

You'll be surprised to hear it's not actually about that.

I'm just expressing sadness that this restrictive, engineered playlist holds so much weight and influence over the whole chart. It could be such a good opportunity regularly add loads of different stuff and help more songs break through, and show the world that there is a more diverse music scene than this list suggests. But they just don't, they control and manipulate it.

Grumble grumble, I know there's nothing I can do about it but I just find the way it all works and the politics involved so awful. I think they're even worse than the Radio 1 playlist compilers.

It’s the $$$$

It’s the $$$$

I know, it's just... such a terrible shame how it ended up being like this.

I'm fairly sure the original aim and vision was to have a fairer chart.

My outburst was caused by seeing the latest Hot Hits additions. There are a few tracks around at the moment that could really do with that to help them properly break through, but all we get is just FIVE new additions, two of which are complete randoms that have echoes of payola or some other underhand tactic.

Yeah I agree :( And it also really annoys me when people are just like 'oh well, it's what it is' - we shouldn't have to just accept such mediocrity.

I'm sure they could find place for songs like 'No Roots' and 'Make Your Own Kind Of Music' which would help elevate them to be a huge hit but they don't. It's lazy, there's songs that have been on there for months that have come and gone.

:ne: 01. Julia Michaels - Jump

:ne: 197. Jess Glynne - I’ll Be There

:o

WTF

Swarmz and Belly Squad are not merely the beneficiaries of 'payola'... they are both steadily growing underground urban hits. I think it's a positive that Spotify would support songs like those.

Streaming numbers are in :o

01. Julia Michaels - Jump (1,652,862) - *ALL TIME DAILY STREAMS HIGH*

02. Ariana Grande - No Tears Left To Cry (1,292,937)

03. Calvin & Dua Lipa - One Kiss (15,927)
