Former band leader of Nirvana, a heavy metal outfit, Kurt Cobain who committed suicide 12 years ago has surpassed the King of rock, the late Elvis Presley in riches. According to Forbes.com, even in death, Cobain made US$50m this year alone, edging Elvis who 29 years after his death continues to rake in the millions. Forbes’ "Top-Earning Dead Celebrities†shows Presley earning US$42m. Presley has been at the top of the list since 2001.

Peanuts cartoonist Charles M. Schulz, John Lennon, Albert Einstein, Andy Warhol, children's book writer Dr. Seuss (Theodor Geisel), Ray Charles, Marilyn Monroe, Johnny Cash, J.R.R. Tolkien, George Harrison and Bob Marley, make the other list.

They better make the most of it cos I reckon next year, Elvis will be toppling him ;) It's gonna be a big year for Elvis, with it being the 30th anniversary :) Don't know how this affects it, but I read something that makes Elvis' earnings all the more impressive - that Elvis estate earns almost nothing from CD sales due to royalties being bought out by BMG :o I'm no expert on things like that, so maybe someone can put me right
