July 17, 20186 yr I regard PC as being a 'blunt instrument' being used to try & bludgeon change, and therefore being far from the best way to achieve it. We all know that telling people they *mustn't* do something will have precisely the opposite effect to the one desired, so education is clearly a better way of doing it. However, it can't *just* be a matter of teaching tolerance to native populations, but one of encouraging immigrants to assimilate, too. Speechifying but giving no alternative. Immigrants children go to school, learn English & British culture and values. What would you suggest? Brainwashing? It's quite possible to fit into both cultures and history shows children of immigrants become fully part of society, while holding on to SOME traditions and affection for their heritage.

I agree that 99.99% of immigrants do assimilate, but what about few who don't? One of your constant themes is that I 'defend the indefensible' - are you prepared to defend the small % of the above who refuse to assimilate?
