innocent people have died following their use. So I'm not in favour of anything that kills people who havent been found guilty of anything.

That said, where the only alternative is shooting innocent people dead (see London Metropolitan Police) and it's possible to bring guilty people in alive (see police force not actually involved in the campaign to catch the London bombers), a great way to judge who did what and got info from where, then it's a justified alternative.

last resort, not as a matter of course.

PS love how you assume we have enough information on every case there has ever been to make a simplistic judgement...

How many Virgins are there in the country?

a) just about right

b) not enough

c) too many

How many police are racist?

a) just about the right number

b) not enough

c) too many

etc.

Ah, but since everyone is deemed *innocent until proven guilty* that would cause a bit of a problem. :teresa:

Seriously though - what are police supposed to do when confronting a violent non-compliant suspect if they don't have a non-lethal option?

In most of the instances listed though, it was found that other causes were found to be responsible for the deaths.

OK, that partially answers the above.

But if I'd have put in a 'depends on circumstances' option, nearly everyone might have picked that.

I was, however, just seeking a general opinion, rather than on a case-by-case basis.
