Omg that Sonia! And Hayley was pretty spot on too.

She also had good measure of how Mick and Linda scenes are written.

I love how she had a trumpet prop but not a phone.

Yet another recasting of Ben Mitchell. Blooming heck. Harry Reid was the far superior one. You had the whiney, gormless and the superior one. Is that a record for recasts in soap history?

Yeah isn’t this a pretty pointless recast? I thought the last one worked when he wasn’t shouting. This character will never have a definitive version.

It makes me wonder why they’ve never bothered to recast Peter Beale again.

Harry Reid did make Ben his own and had decent chemistry with his on-screen family (whenever they bothered to show that); will take some time to get used to a new actor playing the role. Harry wasn't very good at portraying anger, however, which meant he failed at a lot of the things the show wanted him to be, so I'm not too shocked by this recast

The new actor actually looks strikingly similar to Harry Reid. He’s coming back with Lola and Lexi it seems which is interesting as we’ve never really seen Ben as a father.

I thought so too. Stick some glasses on him and he'll probably do just fine looks-wise. Definitely seems like we'll get some progression for the character judging by Kate's comments and the fact we'll see him as father. Looking forward to see this play out!

Its pretty much a record for one character to be re-casted 6 times. -_- Just have to wait to see how it all plans out I guess as a family of his own

Surely Bobby is due a comeback, probably another re-cast  unless he is living with Jane somewhere

The Sonia one is spot on

I'm creased at the trumpet

Slay Sonia! *.*

Speaking of whom, love that Eastenders impression video. Everyone always nails impressions of Sonia.

Recasting a character, are you a fan or not?

Generally, I’m ok with it, as long as the actor is decent. People got all up in arms about recasting Michelle Fowler, and her swift exit means history will always judge her a failure, but I really liked Jenna Russell in the role. Having watched classic EE, I never want to see Susan Tully return ever again. Whiny mess.

Same fuss came with Lauren Carpenter and Brad Willis in Neighbours but they and their families helped to completely rejuvenate the show.

Some just don’t work though. Declan Napier’s change of head in Neighbours practically killed the character.

The problem with the Michelle recast was little to do with Jenna and a lot to do with the poor writing. It was as if no one at Eastenders had watched the show in the 80s and 90s. She had no confidence, hid behind other characters when things were kicking off and spent so little time with her family outside of the first couple of months where she lived at the Fowlers. She just came across as pathetic. Funnily enough, the only time I thought the writing improved was when she was being written out.
Oh I agree, her storylines were horrific. She had great chemistry with Letitia Dean though. She definitely should have been given a longer chance.
Yeah I agree about the chemistry, you could tell Tish and Jenna were long time friends. They would have been better off bringing her in as a new character, might not have improved the plots but at least people would have been more willing to give her a chance. I think Jenna took a lot of the flack for not being anything like how Michelle should be and that wasn't really fair.

Tbh they shouldn’t have hesitated to recast Michelle in the past. It had just been too long and if she’d been recast in say 2001, she probably wouldn’t have received such a massive backlash with social media and online forums barely being a thing.

I actually do hope she comes back one day but I doubt it.
