I'm a big fan of both the original and the cover but I wanted to read some views from RHCP fans about the All Saints cover.

 

If you have more to say - or - then please do so. I want to read your opinions.

 

I'm brave enough to say I voted 'I prefer the cover'. I can't explain why - it's pretty much a tie anyway.

Not as good as the original but still a worthy attempt

 

I don't think the principle of it matters tbh, as if RHCP were bothered they could have stopped it. I just suppose it brought the song to a different audience really

I like the cover but not as much as the original.

 

Me being a fan of the Chili's, i'm always gonna say the original is better. :P Its a very good attempt at a cover though. I think just about every fan of an act who gets a track covered by a different act are always going to say the original is better.

 

I like acts from different genres covering different tracks though as it brings the track to a wider variety of people and it puts a different spin on the track.

It was actually quite a good cover. Not a really awful one that devalues the song but still not as good as the RHCP original.

The original is an absolute classic tune and can never be beaten. The All Saints make it very pop but it worked. Nowhere near as good as the original though. ^_^

It is a really decent cover and its a lot better than a lot of other covers that don't even come close to matching the original. ^_^

I loved the All Saints version when it came out. I was quite young so I'd never even heard the Chilli's version. In retrospect though the All Saints version is rubbish :lol: So I picked the second to last.

Theres no shame in prefering the cover. :P Like I said its a really good cover. ^_^ But the original is still better. ^_^

 

Oh and by the way Tim thanks for making this topic as its the best topic thats been around in the RHCP forum for a long time.

I dunno why I;m so surprised- I guess its cos the 2 songs are so different..

its s shame it wsnt the chilli original classic version that went number 1 instead of a middle of the road cover
As much as I actually like the chilli's I prefure the cover. Mainly for the fact I think their vocals suite the song better

I'm actually offended by it to be honest... This is probably the one single thing that put me off All Saints for life.. I'm pretty hostile to covers at the best of times, but this one was just so trite and so disrespectful that I actually ended up despising AS more than Spice Girls.... It aint about them, it aint about their lives, it's a song about Antony's life.. The cover may be 'glossier', more 'technically superior' or whatever, but it has absolutely NO soul or guts or meaning when it comes from a bunch of pop tarts who haven't lived the experience, even Pete Doherty doing a cover of it would be preferable..... Sorry, but they can fukk off as far as I'm concerned.... We'll have fukkin' Girls Aloud doing a Nirvana or Joy Division song next..... <_<

 

And I cannot believe that four people who call themselves Chili Peppers fans actually prefer it.... :wacko:
