Rahul’s showstopper was so far ahead of the other two. I was really disappointed with how Kim-Joy’s looked, quite dull and boring compared to what we’re used to. Ruby’s also looked a bit bad visually!

What an appalling decision. He did not deserve that AT ALL.

Worst winner ever. Awful end to a great series.

"he's one of those characters you'll miss"... no Paul, he definitely isn't.

What an awful end to what's been, for the most part, a fantastic series. Don't feel that was a deserved win at all, taking into account this week's bakes and the last few weeks' too. :drama:

A really great winner! Although the previous two weeks weren’t that good, he’s been outstanding through all the other weeks and he’s such a lovely person too!

So basically 11 awful bakes on the trot and winner because he was given extra time in the last bake to something that looks awful.

I might apply next year

I’m well irritated that Rahul stayed. All three of his were walking disasters and let’s not forget he burned two of the three!!!

Nah fam. Should have been flushed. I reckon they want him to win tho so he got to stay for that reason

Uh huh. What a farce.

Should have been eliminated in each of the two weeks before the final. Whole way through the final they were dogging everyone else and lifting up his mediocrity. Completely rigged.

All things considered a pretty underwhelming final though, I didn't really like the final showstopper brief, it didn't really feel fitting of that big final moment and last push to win, then the technical was really weird and didn't really even test baking, all of them under-performed compared to what they're capable of.

It was really close but it just leaves such a bad taste in my mouth that he scraped by twice in a row, was just a total mess the whole way through the final and still won. Perhaps I am far too cynical but my thought the moment he was saved over Manon is that they decided he'd already won too :drama:

I know it's not about personality but I'm so gutted Ruby or Kim-Joy couldn't win, they've both been brilliant to watch over the past 10 weeks.

Some people here sound like the Daily Mail. Kim-Joy definitely went into the showstopper ahead of the others, but then clearly came third in that. Rahul had to recover from a disaster not of his making, but came through with a great showstopper.

This, really. If you look it it objectively, I don't see how you can argue with the decision.

The technical was a woeful challenge, not really what the programme is about (who cares about dips ffs?) and none of them were that good. Of the other two challenges Kim-Joy's showstopper was further behind Rahul's than his doughnuts were behind hers. Was rooting for Kim-Joy tonight, but that was the right decision.

Quite! Rahul was obviously going to win after you'd heard the comments from the judges.

And they had to give him the extra time, he had to start again and it would have been totally unfair to not credit him the time when he'd had ALL of his work to that point removed!

On the whole, I thought that was a really underwhelming final though. I wasn't fond of any of the briefs this week.

The pitta bread challenge was quite entertaining in a way, but I'm sure it didn't work as well as the programme makers had hoped. All three efforts were pretty poor, so I doubt it made any real difference to the final result.

Aww, I'm so pleased for Rahul. Such a lovely person and clearly massively talented at what he does, I really relate quite a lot to his nerves and lack of confidence in himself and I do see traits of Autism in him too, I really hope this can do some great things for him and be an inspiration to people that may have similar issues.

BUT I'm rather gutted for Kim Joy, how do you muck up a challenge that requires you to be as inventive as possible when creativity is what you've been best at the past few weeks?! Such a shame for what has probably been one of my favourite ever bakers, that task was made for her. The technical was...odd, good concept, but, a bit straying off course for BAKING no?

Also - winners have had bad weeks before, Candice and Nadiya both have done so, let's not pretend that he scraped through the whole process. Going into the final, the three of them were almost completely even based on past performance and he was consistent across all three challenges and managed to come back from a very bad setback for the showstopper and still managed to be the best out of the three, it's completely fair to say that he performed very well this week and did deserve to win so let's just dial back the conspiracy theories just because you didn't like his personality.

Oh FFS extra time for Rahul - bet he wins

he was always going to win. knew this since the third week. no surprises here

They need to make an all-star edition and get Ruby back. just sayin'

What a disappointing finale.

The technical was a choice, and then the showstopper just didn't have the wow factor you expect. It all just seemed a bit limp.

My main criticism with this season has been the focus on complex challenges. I find Bake Off most enjoyable when the bakers are succeeding, improving, and showing off their talents. They were trying to make them do too much and the quality suffered - it made most of the bakers seem fairly weak. Which they weren't.

I have really liked most of the bakers this year. It's a shame.
