Chart Commentary

 

 

Rocketing to #1 in its first full week, Zedd and Elley Duhé's collaboration Happy Now dethrones Lil Xan and Charli XCX at the top of the chart this week. It becomes Zedd's third #1, just months after The Middle became his second. The first was Ariana Grande collaboration Break Free four years ago. He's had a total of six top 10 hits, with Break Free being his first, although his longest-running hit is Hailee Steinfeld collaboration Starving, a 15 week #3 hit. Happy Now is Elley Duhé's first hit.

Climbing the chart for a second week, CNCO's Se Vuelve Loca finally surpasses the #6 peak it achieved in April. It's the fifth single from the Latin pop boyband's self-titled second album and is this week's highest climber, up 18 places thanks to the release of the music video as well as a Spanglish version. Se Vuelve Loca becomes their fifth top 5 hit, meaning that all of their top 10 hits have also hit the top 5. It follows Sólo Yo, their first #1 hit which led the way in four concurrent top 10 hits when their album came out.

15 year-old Ruel is one of Australia's most exciting new talents. He's scored a trio of minor hits on their chart and has secured hype from the likes of Elton John. His second single Dazed & Confused became his first top 10 hit just two months ago, and now he scores a second top 10 hit with latest single Younger, this week's highest new entry at #6. His debut EP Ready scales the #4 peak it achieved on release also thanks to Younger's impact.

As one third of boyband FO&O, Felix Sandman scored two chart toppers as well as a further two top 10 hits. Since they went on a break to pursue solo projects, Felix is the only one to have scored a top 10 hit alone - Oscar Enestad's Heaven On My Skin made #27, while Omar's Que Pasa didn't chart at all. EVERY SINGLE DAY saw Felix chart at #3 following Melodifestivalen earlier this year, a peak which it returned to after he came second. He now follows it up with IMPRINT, the follow-up single, which sees him in the top 10 once again at #7.

Best known as an actress in The Fosters as Mariana Adams Foster, Cierra Ramirez has also dipped her toes into music. I discovered her single Faded, which becomes her first chart appearance at #9 this week. It's also the first chart hit for featured rapper Baeza. Kari Kimmel also makes her debut this week with The Fosters theme tune Where You Belong, new at #25.

 

In the album chart, Lil Xan scores his second #1 as Heartbreak Soldiers finally climbs to the top after two weeks in the runner-up position. He holds two albums in the top 3, with TOTAL XANARCHY a non-mover at #3. He still has four songs in this week's top 40 singles, down from seven last week but nevertheless an impressive figure.
