Ladies in Lavender is a classic?!?

Titanic is definitely masssssively over-rated. 100% to do with the 'amazing; effects. Ditto Saving Private Ryan and it's powerful introduction leading the way to boredom.

The Shawshank Redemption is nowhere near as good as everyone says it is.

Most films made by the 'frat pack' - especially Anchorman - are over-rated. There are very few you can watch more than once.

Lost in Translation is genuinely very good.

We watched Lost In Translation today. Watching the last bit tommorow. It's an ok film. Wouldn't say 'very good' though.

I was quite insulted by this film tbh... I dont think it portrays Japanese culture at all accurately or positively.... The Japanese characters in the film seemed completely one-dimensional and stereotypical.. Frankly, I actually thought the two "Grudge" remakes had more well-rounded Japanese characters than this more supposedly 'arty', 'left-field' film.....

And I never thought I'd hear myself say that.....

An over-rated film from a rather over-rated film-maker.... I'm not convinced in the slightest that Sofia Coppolla has her father's touch of genius. I cant see Sofia ever making an "Apocalypse Now" or a "Godfather".....

I'll agree with Shawshank. It think it's a great film and maybe even one of the best of the 90's but many, especially young, film critics laud it as the best film ever made. I think it's #1 on the IMDB top 250. That's a bit excessive.

I definitely prefer The Green Mile because it makes a real political statement in showing the disgusting inhumanity of capital punishment.

I'd agree there to be honest.. I've always thought of "Shawshank.." as being a 'good' film, but not quite all it's cracked up to be... Overly long at 2.5 hours to be honest (half an hour or so less it would have been close to perfection...), considering that King's original short story only takes up a dozen or so pages in a book....

"The Green Mile" on the other hand needs and demands to be the best part of three hours, King created a wonderfully complex literary tapestry with the book serial, and it needed a carefully measured, well constructed film to do it justice, and that's what we got... And so unbelievably well acted as well, if you ask me, that is Tom Hanks' greatest acting performance, Michael Clarke Duncan's performance, however, was just on a totally different leve, why in the name of fukk he didn't get an Oscar for that I cant even begin to guess... David Morse was fantastic as well...
