October 31, 200618 yr ARIA Chartifacts Source: ARIA.com.au Singles Steady as she goes…The singles chart remains pretty much untouched again this week with the first seven singles remaining stationed at their positions. The only shake-ups belong to the bottom three, where we see a new entry at #8 from James Morrison with You Give Me Something, which pushes Evermore's Light Surrounds You down a spot to #9. Meanwhile, Guy Sebastian settles for #10 with Taller, Stronger, Better . YOU GIVE ME SOMETHING Artist: James Morrison Position: No.8 At only 22 years of age, Englishman, Morrison grew up on a healthy dose of Otis Redding, Al Green, Cat Stevens, The Kinks and Van Morrison. Morrison would watch his uncle play the guitar, which inspired him to learn and lucky that he did otherwise Morrison 's soulful voice would have not been heard by the world. You Give Me Something is the first single to be released from his debut album Undiscovered which has peaked at #17 this week. TIGHTROPE Artist: Stephanie McIntosh Position: No.16 Following the success of her debut single, Mistake (#3 Aug. '06), McIntosh releases her follow up single. Like many other Australian Soapie stars McIntosh has made the transition from television to singing. Managed by John Farnham's manager Glen Wheatley, McIntosh has even starred in her own reality TV special The Steph Show, which documented her life day to day from filming for Neighbours to sessions in the studio. McIntosh's debut album Tightrope (#4 Sep. '06), has been accredited gold status. HERE IT GOES AGAIN Artist: OK Go Position: No.67 The band consists of Damian Kulash (Lead vocals, guitar), Tim Norwind (bass, vocals), Dan Konopka (drums) and Andy Ross (keyboard, guitar). The video clip for Here It Goes Again is more famous then the band themselves – reaching over one million hits in just six days on website, youtube , to a total of over seven million views, making them the ninth highest viewed video clip in youtube history! If you are one of the millions that have seen the video clip then you might like to know that the guy singing the song is actually not the lead singer of the band but bassist Tim Norwind. LEAVE BEFORE THE LIGHTS COME ON Artist: Arctic Monkeys Position: No.81 They are said to be an unconventional band, steering clear of media hype, major record companies and television performances. But that has not stopped the Arctic Monkeys avalanche that has fallen on the globe. In their homeland of England – these lads have re-written the history books by braking the record for the largest first week sales of a debut album in UK history, for their debut album, Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not (#1 Feb. '06). This is their third single to be released of that album, Leave Before The Lights Come on follows I Bet You Look Good On The Dance Floor (#18 Feb. '06) and When The Sun Goes Down (#26 May '06). LEAVE THE PIECES Artist: The Wreckers Position: No.87 The Wreckers are Michelle Branch – who brought you the hit singles Everywhere (#19 Mar. '02), All You Wanted (#25 July '02) and Are You Happy Now? (#33 Aug. '03) and Branch 's longtime friend and backing singer Jessica Harp. Branch and Harp have combined their different backgrounds in pop-rock and classical music and together make a unique style of music. The Wreckers were originally called The Cass County Homewreckers, which was given to them by Branch's husband Teddy Landau. But the girls decided on the shortened form The Wreckers and make their debut to the ARIA Singles chart this week. Albums It has been an exciting week with four brand spankin' new releases debuting into the coveted Top Ten! Out of nowhere, Robbie Williams has hit #1 with his cheeky offering, Rudebox. The lads from Human Nature has been knocked off their perch and now come in at #2 with Dancing In The Streets: The Songs of Motown II. The feisty Pink proves she is still very much alive and kicking with I'm Not Dead at #3. Prankster, Matt Tiley debuts at #4 with his second Cereal Pest offering. Las Vegas rockers, The Killers are stationed at #6 with Sam's Town. The ever enchanting Sarah Blasko debuts at #7 with What The Sea Wants, The Sea Will Have, followed closely by the eccentric Sister Scissors at #8 with Ta Dah ! Our final top ten debut for this week is the almighty Meat Loaf with the third Bat Out Of Hell installment coming in at #9. Lastly, the lovely ladies from the Pussycat Dolls remain at #10 with PCD . RUDEBOX Artist: Robbie Williams Position:No.1 Cheeky chap, Robbie Williams is back and ruder than ever! The ex- Take That member turned pop royalty has tantalized fans all over again with the release of his highly anticipated seventh studio album, Rudebox. The singer has enjoyed a whirlwind of superstardom since embarking on a solo career almost a decade ago, where he has managed to hold on to his notably cool image despite his ex-boy band roots. Robbie has set fire to the charts with a series of previous releases including; Escapology (#3 Dec. '02), Swing When You're Winning (#3 Feb. '02), Intensive Care (#1 Oct. '05) and Robbie Williams: Greatest Hits, which hit #1 from October 2004 to January 2005! The lucky singer currently has seven albums in the Top 100, which has not occurred since Metallica way back in 1998! Rudebox features collaborations with super 80s electronic duo, The Pet Shop Boys and fellow cheeky Brit, Lily Allen. CEREAL PEST: THE GOTCHA CALLS 2 Artist: Matt Tilley Position: No.4 If your phone is ringing… Beware! You could be receiving a call from Melbourne radio DJ turned professional telephone prankster, Matt Tilley who hit #1 in Victoria with his first Cereal Pest release in December, 2005. Now Tilley is back with an all new sequence of phone gags, showcasing just how far he can push someone's buttons and convince them to do some crazy things! From acting as Russell Crowe while receiving advice from Michael Gudinski to convincing a storage company to hold a few corpses, Tilley is set to leave us in stitches all over again! The DJ has been on the Fox FM roster for fifteen years and has dedicated all proceeds to The Mercy Hospital for Women in light of some past familial experiences. WHAT THE SEA WANTS, THE SEA WILL HAVE Artist: Sarah Blasko Position: No.7 Fans of the ever enchanting Sarah Blasko need not wait any more! The critically acclaimed, self-reliant musical artist has returned to the organic pop/folk circuit with the release of her second album, What The Sea Wants, The Sea Will Have. The Australian musician made a startling impression on fans and critics alike when she emerged on the scene with her dynamic debut, The Overture and The Underscore (#35 Oct. '04). Earlier this year, Blasko hit the New Zealand recording studio of Crowded House superstar, Neill Finn and worked alongside an impressive array of industry folks, including Paul McKercher, who has previously worked with You Am I and Augie March. New comers may recognize Blasko from her performance at the 2005 Commonwealth Games closing ceremony, where she sang a delightful version of the Crowded House classic, Don't Dream It's Over. BAT OF HELL III Artist: Meat Loaf Position: No.9 This baby has massive shoes to fill – Bat Out Of Hell II entered the chart at No.1 in 1993, spending 4 weeks at the top and going 4 x Platinum while the original album spent 8 weeks at No.1 in 1978 and is among a handful of coveted albums in Australia currently sitting at 22 x Platinum. Meat Loaf was urged to audition for a role in the production, Hair whilst working as a parking attendant. From humble beginnings to a musical career entering into its fourth decade Meat Loaf 's latest Bat Out of Hell offering is set to fly up the charts! PRESS PLAY Artist: P Diddy Position: No.41 From making music, putting bands together, acting in films, designing clothing and hosting the biggest parties, there is nothing seemingly out of reach for P. Diddy. The rap star has had an array of chart successes since entering the rap arena a decade ago, including No Way Out (#17 Aug. '97), Forever (#17 Aug. '99) and We Invented The Remix (#36 Jul.'02). Not surprisingly, the serial party-goer (and name changer!) knows a lot of folks in the industry. Press Play features collaborations with a host of artists, including Christina Aguilera, Nas and Pharrell. LAST MAN STANDING Artist: Jerry Lee Lewis Position: No.46 With a career spanning over five decades, Jerry Lee Lewis' new album, Last Man Standing could not have come with a more suitable title. Lewis' musical career has spawned hit after hit since he emerged onto the American Country/Rock n Roll circuit in the 1950s. The singer/pianist, often referred to as The Killer enjoyed an array of chart successes from previous albums including, Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On (#11 Nov. '57) and The “Killer†Rocks On (#30 Jul. '72). In 1989, the singer's turbulent and often controversial personal life was portrayed in the film Great Balls of Fire , which brought him back into the public eye after a six year hiatus. The singer's latest offering is a collection of duets with some of the biggest names in rock n roll, including B.B. King, Mick Jagger and Eric Clapton. IN THE HANDS OF LOVE Artist: Vittorio Grigolo Position: No.49 You know you're pretty special when you become the first Italian male to be excused from mandatory military service on account of a promising career! Italian stallion, Vittorio Grigolo began singing at the tender age of four, and was hand picked to be a soloist in the Sistine Chapel Choir when he was nine. In the Hands Of Love is Grigolo 's outstanding debut album, which is set to engage a new following of opera listeners throughout the country. From gracing the stage with opera legend, Pavarotti to becoming the youngest tenor to ever perform at Milan's, prestigious La Scala , In the Hands Of Love features a delightful duet with Katherine Jenkins and a rendition of the Stevie Wonder classic, All in Love is Fair. OPERATUNITY OZ WINNERS Artist: Various Position: No.67 Think of an opera version of Australian Idol and you get Operatunity Oz, where amateur singers compete for the coveted opportunity of performing at The Sydney Opera House. The six finalists from the ABC program have released an album showcasing their vocal skills in the studio, which features masterful pieces by Mozart and Guiseppe Verdi. The winner of the series is also granted a chance to produce a professional recording with ABC Classics alongside a conductor and orchestra. When it came to casting the contestants, the ABC was inundated with almost 2,000 applicants! THE SHAPE OF IT Artist: True Live Position: No.85 Orchestral hip-hop may sound like a bizarre fusion, but True Live offers a whimsical blend of the two genres that fans can't seem to get enough of. Comprised of six classically trained musicians, including front man, Ryan Ritchie who also happens to be an outstanding MC. The Shape Of It is the band's highly anticipated debut album. With a plethora of talented Aussie hip-hop musicians emerging on the scene, the Melbourne based band has generated a broad array of comparisons to other artists, from De La Soul to Massive Attack. LIVE TO WIN Artist: Paul Stanley Position: No.95 The star child of Kiss, Paul Stanley, is back with his solo offering Live To Win, some twenty-eight years after releasing his debut album, Kiss: Paul Stanley (#58 Nov. '78). The guitarist/vocalist has become one of the most recognized faces of rock n roll since he rocked onto the scene in the super seventies, along with his fellow Kiss band members. Complete with spandex leotards and platform boots, Paul Stanley was seen as the driving force behind one of the most influential bands in history. The artist not only co-founded the band with fellow member Gene Simmons, but also wrote or co-wrote all of their chart successes. Live to Win is Stanley 's second solo effort and features the ever multi-talented musician on vocals, guitar and percussion.
