I agree. A song needs to be popular as well as on Hot Hits. Like Back and Forth has been #1 on Hot Hits for a few days and isn’t top 10 on Spotify. Clearly it’s a popular song but there’s only so much Hot Hits can help.

 

Not being on there is hugely detrimental too. Songs that have ended up being popular eventually have got nowhere on Spotify until they made it on Hot Hits.

But then you could argue that huge hits like "XO Tour Llif3", "Congratulations" and "Moonlight" never made it onto Hot Hits... so I only think it's vitally important for pop tracks.

Let's look at their peaks though - XO TOUR Llif3 made #25 and Congratulations #26, so if they had Hot Hits, I have no doubt they could've been even higher (although I'd have expected them to feature in the first place). I'd have been shocked if huge hits like Havana and Anywhere weren't still big without Hot Hits exposure, they just might have struggled more.

 

As for Moonlight, it's not quite the best example as its impact has mostly happened after XXXTENTACION's death, which is pretty much a whole other scenario!

I don't think Hot Hits matters too much for hip hop tracks as the hip hop specific playlists are quite big and a lot of the acts have big fanbases that will stream regardless.

 

Those two songs were huge despite missing the top 20 anyhow.

urban fans follow other playlists like rapcaviar, not HH, they don't need HH

of course HH is not the only thing that matters but a high position on HH is needed for pop songs to be big hits

Global chart is updated on Desktop which is showing 6,135,358 streams for Ari (#1) anyhow, surprised she's doing this well when it hasn't even been that long since Sweetener was released.

I feel similar! Her singles what’s have actually made #1 as of now are far from her best so if this makes it I’ll continue that streak.

Wow at Ariana :o

 

I'm so surprised, it feels like it hasn't had that much hype (from what I've seen anyway) and NTLC and even God Is A Woman had much more hype to their releases. I suppose maybe it's the media attention with Pete Davidson that helped gain interest and what the song is actually about maybe.

 

I'm happy for her to finally get another #01 after One Last Time and No Tears missed out, but those felt like real moments for her whereas this doesn't. I like the song a lot though, it just didn't strike me as a smash hit!
