But not the one that matters

Plus as said before playlists is what matters on spotify

If not Olly would be doing an Ariana

He wouldn't necessarily it depends on the artist and the reception of the song!

Sigh. No. He is over, just like Westshite. Pop bands have expiration dates.

The public aren't robots - the reason "thank u, next" is so popular is because it's a GOOD POP SONG. It did 700k in a day without playlists, so no, it's not all about playlisting. You seem to think that whatever gets the most promotion is the most popular... that's not the case. If a 12 minute long ambient jazz song was #1 on Hot Hits, it wouldn't get a lot of plays... because it's not accessible enough. The public will only play what they think is good in large numbers - they don't just blindly consume anything that Spotify give to hem.

Yup and certainly not Olly Murs or Westshite!!

Couldn't disagree more, think most people will blindly eat up whatever Spotify gives them, but we can only agree to disagree

people are sheepish, we're not gonna discover that now

Yah they are, hence Pop Brat Justin Bibber being the biggest musical joke one day, embarrassing to like or listen to him etc, to biggest star the next. But Spotify placin doesn't 100% determine the no.1
If Spotify solely determined what was a hit then Matt Terry and Nina Nesbitt would have had huge hits on their hands.

It's so tiring seeing the same repetitive comments about payola/spotify placings etc..

Jack is right, if playlists mattered THAT much, then why couldn't Matt Terry crack the Spotify Top 50 despite being #4 on Hot Hits and high up on Today's Hot Hits?

It matters somewhat but it isn’t the be all and end all because there are many other forms of promotion out there and other formats too. I feel like I’m stating the obvious somewhat...

The thing I hate the most about is that a placing on HH is an absolute essential to even get anywhere in the first place (for the most part), and if you don't get added then you have no hope basically. And they're so restrictive with what they choose to add.

It’d be interesting to see a correlation between hot hits placing and UK chart performance, if there is one. If I had the data and time I’d do it.

How is P!nk A Million Dreams doing?

Hope it’s still in the top 50

I kind of hate the 'sheep' thing because pretension (which can't be backed up)* aside, it implies that everyone has so many hours a day to seek out, curate & cultivate their own playlists.

(People who pay for music or pay for a subscription aren't inherently better music fans either than people who either choose not to, or cannot do so)

*I'm not afraid to admit that most of what I listen to has been curated through someone else and fed through to thousands if not hundreds of thousands of more ears. Unless nearly everything you listen to has '<1,000 plays' and you've never ever discovered something through it appearing in a music chart, you don't have a leg to stand on. I also play heaps and heaps of indie video games but I'm not about to pretend that I didn't discover them through either marketing or someone else telling me they're good. To be able to fully curate your media consumption is a privilege, not a boast.

Rewrite the stars (Anne Marie/James Arthur) and Believe (Mumfords) added to HH but pretty low

thought Anne Marie had used all the tricks and gimmicks in order to get a hit

a song with Clean Bandit, another with Marshmallow, another with Guetta, then Rudimental

a song written by Ed Sheeran (2002), a song about no body issues (Perfect)

and then she goes and releases a cover of the TGS track

what is actually funny is how Anne Marie and Jess Glynne have used almost identical strategies

Jess has also had song with CB, with Rudimental, with Guetta,

a song with Ed Sheehan, a song about no body issues (Thursday)

and now also a TGS cover :D

I was very confused for a second! Believe was a great song of theirs but that was in 2015, the song they’ve actually added is Beloved.

oops my bad too similar titles

hope this one is moved higher on HH, Guiding Light was their best single in ages but was like last song on HH for 2 months, which is useless

#31(+5) Polaroid 141,841 streams (+13,389) *NEW PEAK*

:cheer:
