Robbie's ready to rock Oz

Cameron Adams, music reporter

November 01, 2006 11:00pm

ROBBIE Williams has denied reports he has been in treatment for depression and assured Australian fans his world tour is on track.

Williams says he cancelled the Asian leg of his Close Encounters tour because of exhaustion.

"I've had the hardest year since joining Take That, where we were worked as if we were in a sweatshop," he said.

The cancellation came after seven months touring Europe and South America, playing in sold-out stadiums each night.

He will play to about three million people on tour, which set a record for selling 1.6 million tickets in a single day.

"I know people in Australia are concerned, but it was precautionary," Williams said of cancelling his Asian leg -- due to start this week.

"My head unscrambled and I needed to put it back together and it would have been very difficult to fix had I carried on working in the way I was working. That said, I'm on really good form and can't wait to get to Australia."

Williams denied reports he cancelled the Asian tour dates after lapsing into depression.

Williams' Australian tour starts in Perth on November 30.

His sold-out show at Telstra Dome on December 18 is the last night of the world tour.

It's not the article itself. It's the description of Robbie that has caught my attention.

Scotland : Fashion is in Howie Nicholsby’s blood!

November 1, 2006

Leading designer Howie Nicholsby has revolutionized the traditional kilts in trendy styles, using chic fabrics like denim, leather, wool, PVC, tartans and even the bold transparent plastics in vibrant colors of bubble-gum pink.

The artist, whose clientele list includes Hollywood singer Madonna and UK hip-hop soloist Robbie Williams,   has also become popular with local fashion frenzy youth.

Howie beams, "I'm not so much a designer as a radical evolutionist," he said. "I've taken the kilt back to its origins, to its roots, and made it an everyday piece of clothing."

Well, it’s in his blood of course! Daddy dearest, Geoffrey, owns the family business, Geoffrey (Tailor) since the ‘70s and was known as an adventurous creator in his days.

He has had the honor of dressing legends like glamorous Bo Derek, sexy Sean Connery, hunky Mel Gibson and Charlton Heston.

Howie has named his share of business 21st Century Kilts, which gives a crystal-clear idea of exactly what he offers.

He says, remembering his parents’ reaction that they were not pleased by it at all.

Geoffrey, on the other hand, says that he is reasonably fond of his son’s designs, but feels that some designs are outrageous, like the pink see-through.

From todays Sun

Robbie Williams insists secret track Dickhead on his current album isn't about Oasis. Noel Gallagher told me Robbie said sorry for a track he wrote slagging off the band. Robbie says he meant a different song he wrote years ago.

It seems Noel is the one confused

Makes you wonder if he has actually been in touch with them at all.

from yahoo news:

Robbie to team up with ABBA ?

Robbie Williams is planning a collaboration with pop superstars Abba.

The former Take That star has held secret talks with Anni-Frid Lyngstad, a member of the Swedish band.

The 60-year-old reveals, "Robbie and I talked about doing an Abba hit together.

"He has not yet come back to me on that one."

Fans of the 1970s group hope Williams will reunite them, 23 years after the four-piece split.

A source says, "Maybe he could be the one to get them together again. It would be a sensational coup."

I think the original info is from the Daily Star, so probably a lot of talk with not much behind it. -_-

Personally, I wouldn't mind a collaboration with ABBA - and if Rob really could help to bring them together a lot of people would be kissing his feet. :D

I totally adore Abba!

Would love that to happen. But isn't the blonde girl a bit of a recluse these days? :( Or is it just the dark haired one he's supposed to be duetting with rather than Abba as a whole?

United pips Williams to fans title Sunday November 5, 10:06 AM

Manchester United have pipped Robbie Williams for the title of having the biggest fan base in Britain.

Over a fifth of all football addicts follow the Sir Alex Ferguson-led side, according to a poll by hotel company Travelodge.

The fan table had Liverpool football club in third place, with Arsenal fourth, author JK Rowling fifth and U2 sixth.

Other soccer clubs to make it into the top 20 were Tottenham Hotspur (eighth), Aston Villa (12th), Chelsea (16th) and Bolton Wanderers (20th).

So, it seems there is still a fanbase left and it's pretty big as well.

But when you look at the latest sales figures, a lot of them don't buy singles/albums anymore.

Must be RW fans in the closet or something. People, please come out again !

I think he would be chuffed about that, sandwiched between two football clubs..couldn't happen to a more dedicated footie fan. :D

Having a Laugh?

WHILE Comedy may very well be the new rock 'n' roll, it certainly doesn't attract the same patronage for its stars from admiring groupies – at least not in Paddy McGuinness's experience.

The Phoenix Nights and Max and Paddy star bemoans the lack of female attention for a craft so, apparently, “attractive†to the opposite sex.

And while he's known as something of a heart-throb, he tells me he's still on the lookout for love.

He says: “Yeah, comedians are supposed to be the new rock stars – but without the women it seems. I would love to know where all these supposed groupies are. I wish someone would show me.â€

He's already been romantically linked to notorious party girl Abi Titmuss by certain gossips but laughs off the prospect with the deadpan derision only a Boltonian could muster.

“You've only got to be in the same room with someone and all of a sudden you are an 'item'. That story about me and Abi Titmuss was rubbish. She came to one of my live shows with some friends and that was it.â€

It's something Paddy – whose live DVD, captured on his 120-date stand-up UK tour, is released today – could get advice on from his new best pal Robbie Williams. As The Diary revealed earlier this year, Paddy and the Robster and now bosom buddies after the ex-Take Thatter called him out of the blue and invited him to a football match.

Paddy tells me: “We speak all the time now, and I even appeared live at one of his recent European gigs playing maracas on one song.

“He's a lovely bloke and, despite his superstar status, really is just one of the lads.

“I did have to pinch myself when I found myself lying in a dinghy in his swimming pool with a beer in my hand overlooking the most incredible view of Hollywood, though.â€

Paddy is adding strings to his bow every week it now seems. Not content with his stand-up success and starring roles alongside fellow Boltonian Peter Kay, his previous DVD Max and Paddy's The Power of Two – a spoof fitness video – became the best selling keep fit release ever.

He's also presenting the E4 spin-off show from Channel 4's new game show Unanimous.

But what of the future with his sparring partner Peter Kay?

“We're both so busy at the moment that we haven't got time to work together,†he says.

“But we will definitely do something together again – it's just a matter of when we can fit it in.â€

Paddy McGuinness Live! The Dark Side' is out on DVD now.

All Angels

SUFFOLK'S newest singing star Laura Wright will leading the way when the nation falls silent on Remembrance Day this weekend.

Laura, who at just 16 is a member of new classical girlgroup All Angels, will perform in Trafalgar Square on Saturday before leading the two minutes silence at 11am.

The Framlingham College pupil, who lives in Framsden, and current BBC2 Chorister of the Year, was chosen to be part of the group after a nationwide talent search.

The group will perform a cover of the song Songbird and their version of the Robbie Williams hit Angels in the Square before leading the public to place poppies in the fountain.

They were invited to take part in the ceremony because of their connection with the Royal British Legion, which organises the annual Poppy Appeal to raise money for their work with the armed forces.

All Angels will be releasing their version of the Robbie Williams song next month and have been tipped by bookies as contenders for the Christmas number one.

The single will be the first Christmas single released in partnership with The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and money from sales of the single will go to the Legion.

The release will be a double A side and the other song will be Silent Night. This is the song that German and Allied soldiers sung in No Man's Land on the day of the famous 1914 First World War Christmas Day truce, before playing a game of football together.

All Angels felt this would be a fitting tribute to all those that given their lives, and they have recorded it with a simple piano and string backing.

After leading the two minute silence, the group will then perform Make Me a Channel of Your Peace at the Royal Albert Hall as part of The Festival of Remembrance, to be attended by the Queen and this will be broadcast on BBC1 at 9.45pm on Saturday.

The evening will also see performances by Katherine Jenkins, Chris De Burgh and the Massed Bands of the Guards Division and the Band of the Brigade of Gurkhas.

Britney Spears to date Robbie Williams next?

If the oddsmakers are right, Britney Spears and British pop idol Robbie Williams may be an item real soon. Irish online bookmaker Paddy Power has Robbie Williams as a 6 to 1 favorite to date Britney Spears next.

Maybe they know something we don't. Paddy Power has Robbie Williams with the only single digit odds. His next best competition is Matthew McConnaugh (who just happens to be tied with 14 to 1 odds with Pharrell Williams and Elijah Wood.

Justin Timberlake, who reportedly stated he is a better singer than Robbie Williams, is listed with 20 to 1 odds.

Bobby Brown has odds of 80 to 1 while Michael Jackson is the long shot with 300 to 1 odds. Anything is possible where Britney Spears is concerned though.

For the novice gambler, a $1 bet on Robbie Williams would result in a $6 payout (plus the initial $1 bet) should he become Britney's next beau.

Paddy Power does not accept customers from the United States.

I didn't know where to put this, so sorry if its in the wrong place.

Over the coming months maybe we should have a Take That slot, a "getting back at Rob" thread and a "not getting back at Rob thread".

This one belongs in the "Getting Back" one.

WILLIAMS SNUBBED BY TAKE THAT

British pop star ROBBIE WILLIAMS has been rejected by the band he walked out on in 1995, who insist "we don't need him". Recently reformed TAKE THAT are riding high with the British public after completing a sell-out stadium tour and a comeback album, while former bandmate Williams has been dogged with legal battles and poor reviews. Despite Williams' troubles though, singer HOWARD DONALD is in no mood for a reconciliation. He says, "To let somebody in who you don't know what's going on in their head is not a good idea. "If we have big success with this album - really big success - then to let him back when we don't really know him any more would be a mistake. "The others (bandmates) may have some opinions on this, but I don't think we need him."

This is defenitely in the right place susie. If that's not nasty I don't know what is.

:arrr: :puke2:

Brilliant news

UK acts dominate album sales list (bbc.co.uk/news)

Robbie Williams took three Platinum Adwards in 2006

British acts have so far dominated the European album market in 2006, according to industry figures.

Artists such as The Kooks, Sugababes and Katie Melua have scooped 19 of the year's 36 IFPI Platinum Awards for selling one million copies or more.

The top performer was Robbie Williams who took three awards, including one for his latest album, Rudebox, which sold two million copies in one week.

The US had 12 acts on the list, including UK-signed Scissor Sisters.

The British Phonographic Institute (BPI) said the results underlined the current boom in new British music. Six of the 19 UK Platinum Award winners are 2006 releases.

Euro Top Sellers

1. Robbie Williams - Greatest Hits - 5m

2. James Blunt - Back to Bedlam - 5m

3. Robbie Williams - Intensive Care - 5m

4. Coldplay - X&Y - 4m

5. Madonna - Confessions on a Dancefloor - 4m

BPI Chairman Peter Jamieson said: "These latest figures confirm that we are going through a golden age for new British music, even by our own high standards.

"The success UK music is enjoying today bodes well for future years because, as ever in music, it's the hits of today which pay for the hits of tomorrow."

He also said the UK's haul of Platinum Awards for 2006 is likely to go even higher when releases by Arctic Monkeys, Snow Patrol, Corinne Bailey Rae, Keane and Razorlight are finally calculated.

A Platinum Award is given for any album which exceeds one million sales, or a multiple thereof, within the given period.

:cheer: :yahoo:

Maybe someone should tell MTV 'Europe'

Isn't it just pathetic how they keep moaning " We don't need Robbie !!"

They used his name all the time when they announced there was going to be a reunion
