With power vocals and great production it was always going to be a hit in my chart, even if it took a little while to really get going. It's just great to have a dance song that's really unashamedly dancey, and basically a modern version of the 90s diva house. He's already lost his one-hit wonder tag so hopefully we get to hear more in 2018.We will get to more from him later on, this however remains his best by some distance. # . OOMH wasn't half as good as her song from last year '3AM' but was good to get that and a few other good songs from her this year when she is rather hit and miss. Released late in 2016 it only appeared on my radar a few months later but quickly rose into the top ten to spend 19 consecutive weeks there. It was going to be my BJSC entry for the 92nd contest, before finding 'Saving Light' last minute and sending that, but this eventually got send in '94 and got us another top 20 finish. The song has all the right ingredients of a fab dance song, with hooks all around, I especially love the saxophone bits and personally I'd love to see sax solos make another comeback in dance music. It's proper upbeat and energetic all throughout, and if it passed you by I strongly recommend it (of course, it's my 2nd fave song of 2017). Moldan sadly has yet to follow-up the song and so far looks likely to become not just a one hit wonder but the biggest one this chart has ever had.We finally got a follow-up, which was actually two songs, but neither were very good oops. # . LIONE ~ Glimmer (feat. Heather Sommer) Date entered: 09/03/18 Chart sales: 328,200 Chart run: 85-69-30-30-31-30-37-76-95-83-96-98-x [12 weeks] If you liked their BJSC entry 'Leave This Place' this one is also worth a listen, it sounds even more like Porter Robinson than Porter's Virtual Self material. #176. G. Cook have been very quiet this year). # . Bad Bunny & J Balvin) Date entered: 15/06/18 Chart sales: 332,200 Chart run: 90-56-27-28-33-30-40-45-58-x [9 weeks] One of the biggest hits in the world this year, I haven't been too much of a fan of certain artists cashing in on the Latin trend (Clean Bandit) but this one's done well, the production/sample and Cardi's hook really improve what would otherwise be a standard reggaeton trap song. # . Sofi Tukker ~ Batshit Date entered: 13/04/18 Chart sales: 333,000 Chart run: 55-27-67-45-32-41-47-52-62-80-93-x [11 weeks] More of a novelty song than anything, but that beat drop is too good to ignore. # . Alan Walker ~ Diamond Heart (feat. It ended up being a big sleeper hit in my chart, it isn't the most instant of songs but it really hit me after a load of listens.She'll have 3 more appearances in the countdown, including our BJSC entry 'Trailblazer' which could be a top 10 contender. # . Clean Bandit and Zara Larsson ~ Symphony [#3, 2017] Date entered: 24/03/17 Chart sales: 337,200 (1,999,200 total) :plat: Chart run: 1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-2-3-5-9-15-16-17-17-17-17-21-21-25-24-27-31-37-39-34-32-33-48-56-59-50-69-51-56-76-x-45-41-46-55-68-x [9 weeks (45 total)] Clean Bandit really impressed me with 'Rockabye' so naturally I was excited for the follow-up, and they only went and delivered a true 13/10 life anthem in 'Symphony'. Instantly debuting at #1 and spending eleven weeks there, it is easily this year's biggest #1 single on the chart, but that is not enough to make this year's EOY #1, and it's not even close. With lush vocals from Zara (:basil:) and beautiful lyrics, alongside amazing production which includes Clean Bandit strings at their best, it truly lives up to its name. I was so pleased to see this get a week at #1 in the UK, but it really deserved the chart run that 'Shape Of You' got.Now this, this is still brilliant and they'll definitely never top it. Yes it really is ahead of 'Solo' for this year (and miles ahead of 'Baby'). # . Camila Cabello ~ Havana (feat. Young Thug) [#72, 2017] Date entered: 11/08/17 Chart sales: 337,500 (998,100 total) Chart run: 62-57-55-39-30-24-19-21-24-16-17-18-13-11-15-19-20-27-32-46-x-31-34-39-53-92-x [9 weeks (25 total)] Well this is going to appear on pretty much every mainstream chart fan's end-of-year list and with good reason, it's bang on trend and irresistibly catchy. She sounds a lot more comfortable doing this than her Sia imitation and so I'm glad it was this song that became her big hit. She definitely made the right decision to get off the sinking ship that was Fifth Harmony. Also I'm not a fan of Young Thug as a rapper but his verse here was surprisingly good. And it's good to have the sax solo making its way back into pop music. *_Easy to forget how good this is when it was everywhere for a while which I eventually got tired of. She hasn't come close to topping it since. # . Migos ~ MotorSport (feat. Avicii vs. Nicky Romero ~ I Could Be The One (feat. Noonie Bao) [#3, 2013] Date entered: 07/01/13 Chart sales: 352,700 (2,395,100 total) :plat: Chart run: 3-2-2-3-1-1-2-2-1-1-1-6-18-42-x-29-33-x-46-x-6-19-22-22-26-34-38-74-x [8 weeks (25 total)] Starting off the top 3 is the first of two Avicii entries. Yes that means sadly one song got in the way of an all-Avicii top 2. It is the biggest 'selling' song on the countdown, but that is largely down to the number of remixes this had and the fact that this was released months before the songs in my top 2. Avicii started off the year with this debuting straight in the top 3 and climbing to #1 a few weeks later where it would stay for 5 n/c weeks. The song is brilliantly produced, especially the buildup where you can hear Avicii's contribution to the record - he just has that 'sound' that I love so much. The drop is not a disappointment havingsaidthat, it's far from it actually; perfect for a bedroom rave :lol: The song's just brilliant in every way and for a few months I thought this would easily take the YE #1 unless something really impressive were to come out. And it did, and you can find out very shortly whether Avicii or Daft Punk has followed the footsteps of Yolanda B Cool/D Cup, LMFAO and PSY to become Thermo's Tune of the Year. [edit for context: 'Wake Me Up' was #1 that year, 'Get Lucky' made #2]One of my absolute faves of all time which re-entered this year for unfortunate reasons. He has a few entries in the top 100 so I'll elaborate further then. # . Drake ~ Don't Matter To Me (feat. Michael Jackson) Date entered: 06/07/18 Chart sales: 353,500 Chart run: 13-7-11-32-34-37-43-71-96-x [9 weeks] Great to hear some more unheard MJ vocals and on a smooth Drake jam too. It eventually got replaced for In My Feelings otherwise it may've been a bit higher. # . Sammy Porter ~ What We Started (A Bit Patchy) (feat. Justin Timberlake ~ Filthy Date entered: 12/01/18 Chart sales: 360,800 Chart run: 3-11-14-38-34-43-67-71-90-x [9 weeks] I was rather excited for JT's comeback which led to this #3 debut, but it definitely shouldn't have got that higher looking back, it fell off fast. December 16, 20186 yr Funky Friday and I'm Upset are okay Glad to see someone else who likes Ratio. I Like It? I Like It! I heard Immaterial on an NME list of Best Songs Of 2018 so far. It sounds really good. Solo, Focus and Motorsport are pretty good Man's Not Hot. One of my favourite memes of 2017. Decline and Check are decent. Batshit is a fun song Symphony, Havana and Chun Li are some other good ones. I Could Be The One is a modern dance classic. Tim Berg, may you rest in peace. Filthy has been panned by quite a lot of reviewers, but I myself like it.
