The stars for what is said to be one of the biggest concert this city has seen will be arriving any time soon. Tomorrow about 10 000 East coasters will get the chance to see the likes of British Pop Idols winner Will Young, Irish superstar Ronan Keating, pop star sensation Shayne Ward, Mexican heartthrob Marcos Hernandez, Eighties girl band Bananarama and jazz entertainer Renee Olstead. The stars are here for the Unite of the Stars Music Spectacular 2006 and will be raising funds and celebrating East Coast Radio's 10th birthday in true celebrity style. Durban is the last stop for the talented bunch and they plan to make the most of it as none have visited before. Promoter of the concert Duncan Heafield said the Durban show was going to be a blast judging by any of the previous concerts. "The audience response has been excellent. Throughout the country, people have just been excited and Durban is going to be just as great, if ticket sales are anything to go by," he said. Another promoter, Terry Lyons, said: "Normally one would see one artist on stage belting out their chart-topping hits, but in this case, the promoters have put seven stars on one stage, for one night, each of whom will be performing for an average of 30 minutes." The concert's popularity meant the original venue had to be changed and it will now be held at the Absa Stadium's outer fields, KP 1 and 2. Local stars performing are former Pop Idols contestants Jacques Terblanche, Poseletso, Mean Mr Mustard's Mark Beling and Eighties pop group Little Sister. Gates open at 3pm. Show starts between 6pm and 7pm and Suncoast tickets are still valid.
November 10, 200618 yr Thanks BYM&Ms . Report from the charity do last night: Sonia has just phoned, so some more news. There was a charity auction which was obviously one of the causes of dragging the evening on, Ronan although headlining was on before the auction (strange!) and Will afterwards. Sonia said some people left after the auction - but as it was very much a charity event she thought they were there just to support the charity. There was an act on after Will, but I forgot to ask which one! She said lots of people were there just for Will, lots of screaming for him. A party of ladies near them who said they were there for Will! Venue wasn't full - it wasn't advertised on the radio like the concert tomorrow night was. (She is also going tomorrow night.) Will sang: KO LMF LIAMOD LRN ILUMTYEK WAI LTOYW YG H e didn't introduce the band which she thought he might, but I said that perhaps if the evening was dragging on late he might have decided against it. Ronan got a very good welcome as he is very popular in SA, but she didn't really enjoy his performance that much. SW also got a good reception, she said he seemed very nice and down to earth, although she didn't enjoy his songs that much either! Clothes. Reply to that all important question! The shirt he wore for the MHP premier, black waistcoat, black trousers with black shoes. Sonia said he looked dashingly handsome. (With a little smilie in the text!) As it was a charity gala dinner, I guess it might be possible there may be pics in the papers. Sonia can't get on the boards today, so I spoke to her on the phone. Not much to add to what has already been said except that the auction was an hour long and finished very late, so I'm not surprised that people left. But there were still quite a few tables, just over half that stayed to watch. Will came on directly after. He was not as chatty as he was at other gigs. There was a table of women in the front who it seemed were there just to see him as he was engaging with them quite a lot. There was still Bananarama to come after Will. They must have had no audience at all. Sonia was on the mezzanine floor and was quite far away. She didn't bring her camera (thought it would be confiscated), so sadly no pictures. The banquet's always been the posh corporate affair. But the 4 million they raised is amazing! Tonight will be awesome- they've made a few more tickets available in general admission and golden circle. Also, not expecting any technical hitches because The Dome's sound rig is apparently fool proof...(hope they're right!). (Thanks to Deep Impact for the last bit of info.) Ronan was apparently headlining this but it would seem the order was reversed so that Ronan came on first and poor Bananarama were the last on. :cool: But it would seem there were peeps who were there for him JOHANNESBURG R4m netted at glitzy charity banquet Fri, 10 Nov 2006 A Unite of the Stars banquet has raised R4-million to feed, clothe and educate South Africa's needy children. The money was raised in an auction and raffle at a dinner with the stars at Northgate's Coca-Cola Dome on Thursday night. It will be donated to Unite Against Hunger's African children feeding scheme, the Topsy Foundation (an HIV/Aids orphanage) and the Dischem Foundation. The charity dinner, hosted by actress Jane Seymour, was attended by 2000 people in dinner suits and cocktail dresses, and included performances by singers Marcos Hernandez, Will Young, Ronan Keating, Shayne Ward, and Mango Groove Thanks to Mrs.Soul on O/S.
