November 17, 200618 yr Thanks BYM&M's Love the title. Will does tend to think out loud. I think that's the reason why he somestimes comes across as contradictary. Although we have to wait a while for album 4 I'm sure he is bursting with creativity & his need to keep busy should ensure plenty of exciting projects for us to enjoy. :yahoo:

November 19, 200618 yr With thanks to Julie on Devoted :) STAR STRUCK AND RAIN SOAKED What is it about big- name concerts in Durban and the rain? Every time we get a touring act here, the floodgates open. However, despite the downpour, the Unite of the Stars concert was not a complete washout. Shayne Ward, Will Young, Bananarama, Ronan Keating, Marcos Hernandez and even opening act Little Sister managed to keep the crowd entertained enough to stay, despite the rain. But there were other things against it. The last minute venue change from the Suncoast Amphitheatre to Absa Stadium meant poor organisation - queues, confusion and delays - which naturally upset quite a few people. The opening acts, especially Poseletso, Idols 2 runner up, really got things off to a banging start, singing the South African classic, Mama Thembu's Getting Married Tonight. The night's first biggish name, Marcos Hernandez, performed trademark ballads, If You Were Mine and The Way I Do, and added impromptu versions of Shakira's Hips Don't Lie and several other popular tracks. Bananarama were huge in the 80s, responsible for unleashing a string of pop gems, so for many, seeing them onstage was quite a nostalgic moment. I never thought I'd ever hear Robert de Niro's Waiting or Cruel Summer live, by the original artists in 2006. Will Young clearly shared my unapologetic joy and couldn't resist joining them on-stage showing off a few dance moves - to the delight of the crowd. Speaking of the original UK Idols winner, he, along with Ronan Keating, had a longer set (15 more than the 30 minutes allocated to the others) - and rightly so. Apart from his signature hits Light My Fire, Your Game and Leave Right Now, he also had a ball singing Venus, the song Bananarama covered, complete with their (campy) dance routine. At one point he even caught a bra on his foot, kicked it around and said, "I'm not sure what to do with this . . . the story of my life." The best bits included his singing out the names of his band and crew, giving them their well-deserved moment in the spotlight and a quick version of Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head . . . just for us poor sodden fans. And while no actual drops fell on his head, we still applauded. Shayne Ward, who came on before Will Young, was unexpectedly well received. I'm thinking more for his looks than his voice, which, although it was pretty decent, certainly wasn't extraordinary. He wowed the crowds with songs from his debut album, including That's My Goal, No Promises and a rousing performance of KC and JoJo's classic ballad All My Life. The final set belonged to Ronan Keating who put on a great show, proving his critics (including me) wrong. He can sing and he does it well. Just not when he adds that annoying fake lisp. The biggest drawback, however, was Renee Olstead. Not because she was bad. On the contrary, she gave one of the best performances that night. The problem was no one noticed. And I don't blame them. Whose idea was it to sandwich jazz from a largely unknown singer in the middle of a pop concert? It just didn't work. Despite that and the shoddy set-up (20-minute breaks in between acts during a downpour is not on) the concert was still the most fun Durbs has been offered in a while. Lovely review
