November 3, 200618 yr Interview in Cape Times - thanks toi Bumbling on Devoted: When I got to the patio outside WILL YOUNG'S room at The Charles on De Waterkant, he was chomping on a chicken salad. He looked vaguely perturbed that he was not going to finish his lunch leisurely. About two minutes into the interview he was tranquil, happily munching and heartily chortling, reports RAFIEK MAMMON. What is your proper name? William Robert Young. Your thoughts on Cape Town? Sunny, gay, fun, developing Â… and now, humorous (referring to our interview). You're known as Will Young, the singer but you are alsoÂ… Fabulous (laughs). What comes to mind when I sayÂ… Frustration? When I don't get what I want. I'm terribly brattish. Love? Completion. Anger? See frustration questionÂ… What would an ideal night on the town be for Will Young? It's those surprise nights. Actually, one of them was right here (referring to De Waterkant). It is one of those nights that takes you here, there and everywhere, unplanned. And you end up at some dingy joint late in the night. What's your favourite time of the day? About 6 or 6.30 in the afternoon when I can say "I can have a beer now Â… " What are two things you always have in your car? My mobile and my music. Â…And in your fridge? Apples and carrots. What's your absolute favourite film? Brief Encounter. I've got it here with me, actually. Three performers whose work and artistry you really enjoy? Grace Jones, David Bowie and Madonna. Actors whose work you really like? Albert Finney. He is such a calm, quiet superstar. Matt Lucas, who is also a friend. What is the first thing that comes to mind when I say the wordÂ… Cat? Miaouw. Purple? Prince. Food? Chicken salad. What is your greatest fear? Being unhappy. What does happiness mean to you? Feeling fulfilled creatively and personally. What music would you want playing at your funeral? Funny, I actually do think about those things Â… Joan Armatrading's Love and Affection - really brings on the tears. Can you recite a line from your favourite poem? "His second-class ticket was still in his pocket, his rucksack and bag on the rack overheadÂ…" from The Traveller's Tale and it is unsigned. Have you ever been arrested? Yes. I was 19 - for drinking and driving. Not something I'm very proud of Â… When last did you want something you couldn't have? It was a work-related thing. I can't tell you, I'm afraid. Have you ever been mistaken for someone else? Yes, Will Smith (laughs). It's the name, not the look, I think Â… What would really surprise us about you? I'm good at bar billiards. I even hustle my boyfriend, Conor the other night. Namecheck  Does criticism stick in your mind? It depends on my mood. When I'm vulnerable it usually does. What's the harshest criticism you've had to endure? Someone called me fat and said I needed botox. What's the best thing someone had to say about you? I was crowned as having the best rear of the year Â… they liked my bum (laughs). What makes you embarrassed? Rudeness. Can't stand people being rude. Is the glass half-empty or half-full for Will Young? Depends. Mostly half-full. When I'm unhappy it feels like half-empty. How do you react when you see a nun? I saw one just yesterday. I said "Amen, sister". What is Dame Judi Dench like? She is very funny. She is really strong and really vulnerable. I like that combo in people. What is your most treasured material possession? My car - a 1961 Porsche. When did you last cry, and why? On the plane coming over here. The movie was sad. It was called The Lake House. Three words that best describe you? Driven, fighter, lover. Bless him  Will Young headlines the Unite of the Stars Concert at the Bellville Velodrome tonight. November 3, 200618 yr Early texts from Carole in SA. Thanks to Jules. Huge arena, crowds still arriving but pretty full already. No acts yet. No news on where Will is in set, but they presume he is on last. Carole says first act are on now. She says there's a bit too much reverb (time to sort that before he comes on though hopefully ) Crowd very noisy and singing along. :yahoo: Looks like we'll get a report tonight. :D :cheer: Text from Griff saying that she doesn't know what time Will is going to be on. Very noisy crowd! She will try to get into an internet cafe later, apparently there is one near to where she is staying with X-Pat. Edited November 3, 200618 yr by truly talented
November 3, 200618 yr OS Update. B) 03/11/2006 An Update From South Africa, UK Lucky Will is currently out in South Africa on the Unite The Stars tour in support of Nelson Mandela's charity - and he's having an absolute ball! He left chilly London on Monday and arrived in sunny Cape Town on Tuesday morning. After a day of taking it easy and recovering from the long flight, Will went out for a delicious seafood dinner at Panama Jacks along with the crew and his five-piece band. Wednesday was spent chatting to local radio, TV and press about the upcoming gigs - everyone was very lovely and seemed extremely pleased to meet Will! Thursday was spent in the studio rehearsing with the band, followed by a soundcheck at the venue. It's all sounding brilliant, and Will and the rest of the band and crew are really excited about tonight's show. To check out the whereabouts Will's playing in South Africa over the next couple of weeks, head over to the Live section.
