Chart Commentary

Doing the double, the release of Rita Ora's long-awaited second album has seen a huge impact on both charts this week. The album itself becomes her second chart-topping album, over six years after ORA hit the top spot for a sole week in 2012. On the singles chart, the all-but-confirmed next single Only Want You soars to a #1 debut in a closely fought battle. It's Rita's tenth #1 single, meaning she now holds third position for most #1s on her own, trailing only One Direction (11) and The Vamps (13). Phoenix holds six of those #1 singles - Lonely Together, Anywhere, For You, Girls and Let You Love Me making up the rest of the tally.

Additionally, Rita joins an exclusive club of artists who have achieved four #1 singles in a calendar year. Only four other artists have achieved this before. One Direction were the first in 2012, followed by Hunter Hayes in 2014 and The Vamps in 2017. 2018 is a landmark though, becoming the first year to achieve this twice over; Why Don't We also scored four #1s this year.

Narrowly missing this weeks's #1, Ava Max returns to the chart with Sweet But Psycho. It's her first hit, and initially charted at #19 a couple of months ago. Its return is boosted by its current chart success, and therefore becomes her first top 10 hit too. Halsey and Billie Eilish also achieve new personal bests this week, while RIKA, Jack Savoretti and Tom Walker make their chart debuts.

Finally climbing into the top 10, Anne-Marie achieves her ninth top 10 hit out of ten top 40s so far as Perfect to Me zooms 19-6. Every single from her debut album Speak Your Mind has been a top 10 hit so far, including #1 singles Heavy and FRIENDS, joined by promotional single Then and feature Rockabye. Interestingly though, her biggest hit is Ciao Adios, which made it no higher than #2. Perfect to Me was also boosted this week by her gig at O2 Academy Brixton in London on Thursday 22nd November, which also helps the album jump up to #4 in the album chart.

Also new to this week's top 10 is a collaboration between three artists - two of whom have already achieved a hit each this year. Kris Kross Amsterdam raise their tally of hits to three, interestingly lacking their global breakthrough hit Sex, with Cheat Codes. Vámonos is a collaboration with former Fifth Harmony member Ally Brooke, who achieved six top 10s as part of the group (including three #1s) and made it to #4 with Topic on Perfect earlier this year. The song also features Messiah, who scores his first hit.
