Yes well done Kylie, 57 formats, fans having multiple cassettes they will never play, 5 singles, every possible promo going, a tour and it might scrape being #30 for the year.

Your sarcastic remarks sound like someone who doesn’t really know what they are talking about! Achieving a T30/T40 album of the year placing is quite an achievement for Kylie - given her last album only sold just over half the sales of Golden. She has also sold a lot more albums than some contemporary artists such as Justin Timberlake’s latest offering and Katy Perry, with only limited support from radio. It’s ridiculous to say she has done it with every promo going, in fact there could have been a lot more promo! And so what if there are multiple formats? This is nothing unusual - what about other artists who release a standard and deluxe and then a reissue of the standard and deluxe. Other acts like Madonna in the past have issued a number of different versions of rebel heart so it’s a contemporary thing many record companies now do.

Anyway.. Congrats Kylie - Well done on your 50th year :yahoo:

Sales all around are quite low no?

She has done all the big promo slots, had radio 2 on board fir every single no matter how big a flop they are.

As for selling double her last album well not surprising since her fans have brought twice as many copies.

I'm sure most artists with a faithful fan base could keep releasing a new cassette every couple of months and sell them but most just dont feel the need to rinse their fans that badly.

Golden has been a success in the form of squeezing every possible sale from her fanbase. Which is fine but there will be a lot of albums below her in the YTD list that more individual people own and have heard.

Sammy do you have your Glastonbury ticket?

Kylie Minogue headlines Sunday Legends slot at Glasto in 2019. Lets hope she releases more Greatest Hits cassettes..... 51 top 40 hits that could be 4 cassettes of Greatest Hits for each to buy

Merry Xmas

Well nobody is forcing the fans to go out and buy multiple copies and not all hardcore fans buy multiple copies. I am a long time fan and I’ve only bought the one edition. I think this album has connected a lot more with not just the fans so that’s why it’s done better. Yes, she’s done some big promo slots but so have other artists like Paloma Faith, it’s nothing out of the ordinary!

I'll look forward to the braille addition.

Other labels should learn from kylie’s

I am huge fan and only bought 1 CD that's it.

The multiple formats would have helped but to be honest i doubt make up a huge % of the sales

I’ve been a fan since 1988 and only bought one version, not saying that some fans haven’t bought multiple versions but to make it a key part of an argument on its success is slightly dramatic haha

Most acts these days offer multiple versions but aren’t selling 6 months later.

And let’s be honest, 5 singles ? Yeah I suppose but no one is watching the music video ( who would, very meh haha) except the first 2 but none of them were top 30 on the airplay chart so let’s not pretend she is everywhere, it’s only the 3 or 4 big tv slots that people know she has a song out.

Do I agree with the last 2 batch of cassette ? No

Is the record company fleecing fans ? Sure but no one is making them buy it and a few thousand sales 6 months after it’s release shouldn’t really tarnish the obvious hard work she has put in to promote it.

Very true, but even top 40 which looks safe is good too and golden is her best chart run for a long time.

I hope take that can make the top 10.

Maybe be tough with Buble ahead of them in this and the midweeks!

Even taking out the cassettes ‘Golden’ has been selling 2.5k per week, and that’s without promo or R2 AirPlay. Someone is being too bitter!

When the album is sold purely on fanbase it does what the latest the 1975 album did, i.e. falling 1-34 or such.

Only it was 1-34 at Christmas. The amount it sold at 34 would easily get it top 10 in the summer.

Shock horror: Kylie and her label wanted to have a successful album and to make as much money as possible from the uplift in success she's seen this year. Burn her at the stake.
I think it's clear Kylie has exceeded expectations with this release compared to previous albums!

you guys are crazy complaining that an artist releases too many formats

it's the opposite, wish everybody did the same

then if it's your favourite and you're a collector, you can buy all you want

if not, no need, but why complaining?

but I think the success of the album is more to do with tv promo, she's been in all possible tv shows all year nonstop

and she's done 130k of pure sales, which is all that matters, Post Malone has double sales but that's not real vinyls and CDs sold, thats random tracks placed in all possible Spotify playlists, the revue of his album must be much lower than KM's

really think Kylie's should be an example to all other albums on how to sell an album, even when the quality is not that amazing (I personally hated Dancing)

The Golden roll out really has been a master class in how “heritage” artists should do albums without Radio 1, Capital and Spotify support. From the music itself (embracing the current country trend but not so modern that it scares off R2 listeners), to the multiple formats to the TV promotion.

It’s just a shame she hasn’t managed to get Spotify on board. Though I am curious from a profit perspective, the profit from a Spotify album “sale” vs a traditional physical album sale.

She never did Strictly, nor all the daytime shows etc, nor The Voice (only the kids one) lots of promo she didn't do that others do...... She did radio 2 concert but no stuff like Big weekender etc so don't say she has been on everything. What she has done is have a good distribution and PR team and worked hard all year.

Without Spotify and Apple playlists supporting she has done amazing.

Hold on a minute, weren't you the one saying it'd be out of the chart within a month when it was first released?

As someone pointed out, the extra formats will make up a minuscule percentage of its overall sales, I think it's fair to say this has done very well in its own right for her and it has defied expectations, so perhaps stop being such an insufferable troll monster.
