Linda Bennett - An Old Fashioned Christmas (Daddy's Home) (1975)

I love it, don't why some blogs called it "Worst Christmas Song ever".

Well I never! I don't recall ever hearing that Barry Blue/ Lynsey De Paul record and it's quite good (and I always rated their joint songwriting from 1972 through to 1975)! I'm guessing it got lost in the 1975 Xmas rush, given we had I Believe In Father Xmas, Bohemian Rhapsody, Mamma Mia and errr Laurel & Hardy. That said there was also the hideous Renta Santa, Christmas In Dreadland, and Make A Daft Noise For Christmas which are guilty of Crimes Against Christmas and yet were all clogging up the charts! I blame Radio One for not playing it and record buyers for buying the rubbish that was out.....!

That Carpenters record is gorgeous and charted in 1972 and 1990, so def deserves to get played instead of The Usual Suspects all the bloody time....

John, you forgot about Dana - It's Gonna Be A Cold Cold Christmas and Carpenters version of "Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town".

Unfortunately now we have only "overplayed to death" songs every year instead fresh Christmas tunes.

Yes, I'm guessing Dana had the "nice xmas tune" market sewn up on radio so they weren't keen to playlist another that might be seen to be in the same genre :(
