Ukrainian tennis player Helen Ploskina has been handed a lifetime ban and $20,000 fine after being found guilty of match-fixing and related offences by an independent Anti-Corruption Hearing Officer.

 

A Tennis Integrity Unit (TIU) investigation established that the 22-year old, currently ranked 821 in ITF World Tennis singles, introduced another player to a corruptor, who offered that individual payment in return for agreeing to fix the outcome of matches. The offences took place in October 2016.

 

In addition, she was found guilty of two further offences of failing to report knowledge of corrupt activity and failing to co-operate with a TIU investigation.

Andy Murray hopes to return to the singles court before the end of the year, but thinks he is unlikely to be ready in time for August's US Open.

Murray and Brazilian Marcelo Melo lost 6-2 6-4 to Colombian top seeds Robert Farah and Juan Sebastian Cabal.

Johanna Konta beat Greece's Maria Sakkari 6-4 7-6 (7-3) to reach the third round of the Nature Valley International at Eastbourne.

 

The world number 19 was 5-3 down in the second set but fought back to secure victory in one hour 37 minutes.

 

Konta, 28, will play Ons Jabeur in the third round after the Tunisian defeated Mandy Minella 2-6 6-2 6-1.

British number one Johanna Konta's final tournament before Wimbledon ended in defeat by world number 62 Ons Jabeur in the third round at Eastbourne.

 

Konta had led by a break in the first set before the Tunisian fought back to win 6-3 6-2.

Angelique Kerber is through to the semi-finals of Eastbourne after beating Romania's Simona Halep in straight sets.

 

Germany's world number five Kerber, twice a runner-up at Eastbourne, won 6-4 6-3 in one hour and 13 minutes.
