Yes but they will now vote on extending Article 50 so we may not be going as soon as you think.

Why do you think no deal would be great anyway?

They can vote to extend all they want, it doesn't change the law.

It's not about whether I think no deal would be great, it's about believing this country is still a democratic country and we should leave the EU. There was no mention of a type of deal on the ballot paper when people voted in the EU referendum.

No it is not "a complete lie", how rude.

Bless, you think no deal has been rejected. Do you not know the law states the UK leaves on 29th March, 11pm, deal or no deal.

Please tell me where during the referendum campaign it was stated we would leave with EU with absolutely nothing? It wasn't. All the talk was we would get a better deal than we have. No Deal Brexit is bloody stupid, it's the most reckless thing we could ever do. I've not seen one plausible argument apart from 'it'll be alright'. Yeah you wouldn't gamble your mortage on the 1:30 at Cheltenham tomorrow and say 'it'll be alright'.

Ah spoken like a true hard Brexiteer! The irony of banking on an advisory vote, when the original referendum was non-binding - hilarious.

What did it say on the ballot paper? What was the question?

Do you want me to tell you?

I can't remember exactly, I'm sure you're going to tell me though.

Regardless I suspect the ERG will panic and push through May's deal. Otherwise I suspect Brexit will probably get cancelled, no matter how much the ERG and Farage will tell us they will get the EU to reject our deal. No Brexit is bloody stupid, 'will of the people' my arse. These will be the same people complaining when the cost of living rocks up.

There is a difference between "I would like to leave the EU" and "I would rather leave the EU in any way possible than stay in". Just because 50%+ of voters wanted to leave the EU doesn't mean that 50%+ of voters are happy to leave with no deal.

What does leaving the EU mean to you?

And I'm talking leave, not half in half out.

Should the United Kingdom remain a member of the European Union or leave the European Union?

The options were :

Remain a member of the European Union

Leave the European Union

That was it, not one mention about a deal or any other nonsense in the campaign.

Regardless it doesn’t matter - I highly doubt we are going to leave the EU without a Deal.

Great to see on the BBC Farage and Rees-Mogg looking worried. Think there’s a real prospect of No Brexit happening or a definite watered down version. Like I said, suspect there will be a 3rd vote and May’s bang average deal will finally pass.

What does leaving the EU mean to you?

Just say what you want to say - there is no need to hide behind indirect questions.

You may wish it was the case that wanting to leave the EU was the same thing as being willing to leave the EU under any circumstance, but that is not the case for many people. It is not contradictory to vote to leave the EU but decide that you would rather stay than leave in the way you are being asked to.

It didnt specify anything. You dont speak for 17 million people unless you can prove every one of them voted to leave with no deal, which for an absolute fact i know not to be the case. They fell for the lies. It wasnt multiple choice. But we can test your theory quite easily by having a referendum on it where leaving with no deal or staying in the eu are the 2 options. If you dont agree with a democratic vote then it is because you know we will stay in the eu given those 2 choices.

Simples.

No Deal would be devastating for the relationship between Ireland and Northern Ireland. Let us not forget Northern Ireland has been without its Devolved Government for nearly two years now
I think people need to make up their mind on here, what did it say on the ballot paper?

Remain or Leave. And the majority of the British people voted to leave the EU, it said nothing about a deal. The UK is a democratic country so therefore we must leave the EU with a no deal.

Nor did the ballot paper say we must leave on 29 March 2019...

‘Taking back control is a careful change, not a sudden stop - we will negotiate the terms of a new deal before we start any legal process to leave’

Didn't they Leavers tell you they voted for No Deal Brexit? Reckon if we clawed our posts back 3 years we'd see the grand total of 0 people mentioning we leave Europe without any sort of deal in place.

If you agree to buy a house, that doesn’t commit you to go ahead regardless. If you subsequently discover that those lovely fields behind the house will soon be an industrial estate and that the quiet pub on the corner is actually very rowdy most nights, you can change your mind.

MPs voted 312 to 308 in defiance of the Tory whips attempt to quash the plan to scrap No Deal for good

That's even closer than the referendum itself, I demand a re-run... :teresa:

Well technically there WAS a rerun as the later vote had a majority of 42 (?) against leaving at any time with no deal.

Also, there has already been a rerun of the meaningful vote with MPs voting on the exact same withdrawal agreement and potentially a third rerun mooted of, again, the exact same deal

The appreciation for good writing in me makes me quite glad that the last few days have given us this somber opinion piece https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2...inister-eu-exit. Poetic and astute throughout.

For last night’s developments it’s mostly as expected. The close result everyone is focusing on wasn’t the main vote, deflecting to make no deal seem more supported, I guess. Besides meaningful votes coming back it looks like no deal is the option we’re still stumbling into, even though it shouldn’t be and every incompetent fool in the government needs to be held to way more account than they are currently being.
