January 3, 20223 yr Liking everything so far, although maybe not quite as much as previous material. Still looking forward to the album though.
January 11, 20223 yr 'From You' is way better than the first two singles for me <3 Bonobo & Joji is quite an unexpected crossover but it works very nicely. (still need to hear 'Otomo' and 'Shadows', I am going to check out the album so I'll hear them then if not before)
January 16, 20223 yr The album is out now :cheer: Sounds pretty decent and cohesive on first listen. 'Otomo' is the most instant for me, but a lot the tracks sound like growers. I've really grown to like 'Shadows' now as well, but the Joji collab did nothing for me (I've never got the huge internet hype for Joji in the first place)
January 22, 20223 yr 'Rosewood' and especially 'Tides' have ended up being among the weakest songs on this album for me so not the best choices for the first couple of singles imo but the rest of the album is mostly great! 'Polyghost' is a lovely opening track and the run from tracks 7 to 11 is basically flawless  also stanning 'Otomo' now that I've finally heard it (and I liked 'Shadows' more than those first couple of singles too but not quite as much as 'Otomo'/'From You'). 'Day By Day' is a kinda meh song to finish on which prevents this being an all killer no filler album ('Elysian' was just decent as well) but on the whole I think this follows nicely in Bicep's footsteps from last year as another great January electronic album. Fab that it held onto the top 5 in the albums chart <3 (I see that 'From You' doesn't seem to have been received too well by most of his fans oops, I stand by it tho, it is a vibe xx)
January 23, 20223 yr pretty bad review on Pitchfork, whom call him unoriginal and plain https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/bonobo-fragments/
January 23, 20223 yr pretty bad review on Pitchfork, whom call him unoriginal and plain https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/bonobo-fragments/ Are they on crack? He's probably one of the original masterminds behind the emergence of this sort of electronic music and many producers now would class him as an inspiration for their work they put out. Guardian gave it 5/5, NME 4/5, Line of Best Fit 8/10
January 24, 20223 yr The singles were really hit and miss (Tides and Joji collab in particular is just dull) but overall the album is fine. Not in the same league as Bicep imo. I don't think I would have bothered to listen if it weren't for Otomo and Age of Phase. Closer, Sapien and Counterpart are highlights among the album tracks. I guess I prefer his more uptempo, instrumental sound.
January 26, 20223 yr Oh I agree it's not as good as Bicep's album, just comparing them because they were both released in January so both strong electronic albums to kick off their respective years. After relistening to my highlights 'Age Of Phase' and 'Sapien' are the 2 biggest standouts from the album tracks for me with 'Counterpart' not too far behind, I think 'Otomo' is my fave from the album overall though!
September 10, 20222 yr I wasn't sure where to post this but new standalone single ATK is all sorts of amazing  s39SDfB1iyQ 'ATK' was made around the same time as 'Fragments'. Initially a DJ edit of Atakora Manu’s ‘Dada', it became something fuller and a track of its own. I felt it was a little too bashy to fit on the album and wanted to save it as an Outlier release to be aimed more at the dance floor," said Bonobo, AKA Simon Green, of the new material, referencing legendary Ghanaian Highlife guitarist, Manu, an acclaimed composer, studio engineer, and founder of Kakaiku No.2 Band with Moses Kweku Oppong. "We wanted to create a minimal film embodying ideas of serendipity and perception, allowing the world to reveal itself in unusual ways spontaneously. If you have ever looked out of a train window to see the wires and tiles weave and dance in a magical way, this, in essence, is what we wanted to capture in our film. Our own living ‘zoetrope’," said the McGloughlin Brothers.
October 22, 20222 yr Another new single Defender out now. It's a thumper  -XBukgugjPU Both ‘Defender’ and ‘ATK’ are set to be physically released on hand-stamped and numbered white label vinyl (limited to 1500 units) Pre-order here
January 6, 20232 yr 'ATK' was cool but not one of his best. 'Defender' on the other hand <3 the vocal sample reminds me a little of O'Flynn's 'Desmond's Empire'.
