Another year of Melodifestivalen deltävlings are over and as ever there were some QUESTIONABLE resultat coming from the good people of Sverige. As such I have taken it on myself to compile a list of what I believe to be the 28 best 5th placed entries in Melodifestivalens historia. Stay with me, as we travel back down memory lane to a time when Sweden's only option was to actually PAY to vote and women actually had a chance at winning the whole shebang! I hope for the newbies among us this is a chance for you to discover glories past and for the veterans, well I hope I don't make you feel TOO old x
February 24, 20196 yr Author 28. Ellen Benediktson - Insomnia (2015) Text och musik Ellen Benediktson, Anderz Wrethov ECrlOKwyR34 Ellen Benediktson kicks us off with the leather bound 'Insomnia'. After a breakthrough debut in 2014 with the sweet if a little dull 'Songbird', Ellen came back doing the sort of music she actually wanted to do (Spoiler alert: Sibel actually tried this back in 2010 with the utterly amazing 'Stop' after her balladering success in 2008, only to come 7th in her heat!). Unfortunately it wasn't what Sweden wanted from her and she failed to repeat her previous success, never to be heard of again. At least it gave us the gift of Edin Jusuframic in leather *.* 27. Christian Walz - Like Suicide (2011) Text och musik Fernando Fuentes, Henrik Janson, Tony Nilsson JgVedNP2gSM After having a sizeable career in Sweden in the mid 2000s, werewolf wannabe Christian Walz was all set up for his big comeback in 2011, even bagging the pimp slot of heat 2. In the first round of voting he actually managed to secure more votes than somebody called Loreen, but it wasn't to be and in the end his comeback was shortlived. I suppose history could've been very different if it were not for that second round of voting... 26. Linda Bengtzing - Ta Mig (2014) Text och musik Nicke Borg, Jojo Borg Larsson JQLWY2Taryo After a HUMILIATING last place on the televote back in the 2011 final, Bengtzing returned not with her usual schalger sound, but a techno dance rave! Sadly not to rave reviews however, she ultimately lost out to Alcazar in a Globen or Bust where you didn't know what to do except curse the ground Anton Ewald walked on. It was the first time Linda had failed to reach AC at least and after one more pop at it in 2016 resulting in dead last, it's unlikely we'll get any more Mello bops from Bengtzing. 25. Roger Pontare - Himmel och hav (2017) Text och musik Thomas G:son, Alexzandra Wickman qvb1r-35uQ0 You know I love an ethnic bop! Before Jon Henrik Fjällgren, Sweden had Roger Pontare who had already won Melodifestivalen and come top 10 at Eurovision on home soil in 2000 with the frankly outstanding 'When Spirits Are Calling My Name'. 17 years later and despite beating Dismissed on the app voting in round 1, he sadly was sashayed away, for perhaps the last time, by only a couple of thousand votes.
