Chart Commentary

 

 

Debuting at #1 with considerable ease, Froy Gutierrez scores a second #1 with only his second release. Fix Me follows sideswipe, which spent five weeks at #1 over three stints in 2018, finishing the year at #2 on my EOY chart. sideswipe is no longer on streaming or download platforms as Froy wanted a fresh start for his new music, which is already off to a notably deeper start. Fix Me talks about mental health and substance abuse, and has received rave reviews from Froy's fanbase so far.

Greyson Chance's domination continues, with his five charting songs extending to seven this week while parent album portraits holds at #1. Lead single shut up is the only song not climbing this week, though it holds at its peak of #2 for a second week. New single yours shoots up four places to #5, while timekeeper moves 17-13, black on black goes 27-22 and seasons nineteen jumps 30-24, the latter outpeaking its original version (#25 hit Seasons). bleed you still and west texas join them at #28 and #39 respectively. Climbing into the top 5 on its first full week, Why Don't We score their third hit of the year in as many months as I Don't Belong In This Club becomes their eighth top 10 hit. It's their first single since These Girls not to make #1 as things stand, and I thought it would pose more of a threat but nevertheless, it ran into tough competition. The song features Macklemore, who scores his first hit since 2015's Downtown and first away from long-time collaborator Ryan Lewis. It's his second top 10 hit, after Same Love reached #10 in 2013, and highest position to date.

Achieving his first top 10 hit in two years, Danish popstar Christopher makes a return to the top tier with new single My Heart. It's the fourth single from his album Under the Surface, which debuts at #2 in the album chart this week, and follows a mixed run of singles so far. Lead single Bad peaked only at #33, while Monogamy followed with a #12 peak and Irony reached #18. The last time Christopher featured in the top 10 was the first week of 2017, when Free Fall debuted at #1 and became his third top 10 single in a row.
