Posted November 6, 200618 yr Smashing Pumpkins halfway there Virgin Net Reformed rockers The Smashing Pumpkins have revealed they are "halfway" through recording their eagerly awaited comeback album. The band, who split in 2000, are back together and are working on their first album since 1999's 'MACHINA/The Machines of God' with former Queen producer Roy Thomas Barker and Soundgarden cohort Terry Date. Drummer Jimmy Chamberlain and singer Billy Corgan are confirmed for the reunion, but it is unclear whether any of the other original members have signed up. And in a post on the band's official Myspace page, Chamberlain said that after 12 months of work, they are making good progress on the new record. He said: "We have been working day and night in the studio and I am happy to say that the drums are finished! "After almost a year of work, to finally sit down and listen to the drum takes, one after another, was a truly joyful experience. "I can honestly say that this has been one of the most musically satisfying and spiritually rewarding trips I have ever been on. And what a long strange trip it's been! "Our music has pulled us ever closer to the Heart and the Heart is beating true. We are moving closer to the light now, so about halfway there." A release date for the new album has not been confirmed. Were any of you fans of the Smashing Pumpkins?
November 6, 200618 yr I bought their Singles Collection when I saw it cheap cos someone recommended the band to me. I haven't given them much of a chance, so this could be my cue to dig it out and stick it back on.
November 6, 200618 yr Tonight Tonight I liked and it was #1 on my chart in like 1996 :o Hmmm I may have to go on a downloading spree.
November 7, 200618 yr I was a huge fan of theirs back in the day, which is why I'm totally pissed off about this so-called "reformation"... It's nothing of the sort - Billy Corgan basically cant get anyone to buy any of his crappy solo stuff - I mean, "Zwan" *snigger* -, certainly NOT to the degree that people were buying Pumpkins records that's for damn sure so he decides to 'reform' the Pumpkins.... Only it aint Smashing Pumpkins at all - no D'arcy (who seems to be missing in action), no James Iha (who's now in A Perfect Circle), not even Melissa Auf Der Maur (who has her own solo career which generated a hell of a lot more interest than anything Corgan did Post-Pumpkins) by the looks of it either..... While this isn't quite as bad as Jerry Cantrell reforming Alice In Chains without Layne Stayley (again for similar reasons that Jerry Cantrell solo material was not selling particularly well...), it's certainly in the same ballpark of c**p ideas.... I'd rather have my memories of one of the 90s' greatest Hard Rock/Alternative bands than watch Corgan, Chamberlain and a few session musos go through the motions.... When Pixies reformed they got the whole band back together - totally different kettle of fish there...
November 7, 200618 yr I loved what I heard of Melissa Auf De Maur's solo material, she had an incredible voice.
