Do you prefer calling them a film or a movie?

 

I prefer to use the word film, I don't like the look of the word 'movie', movie just looks too informal for my liking.

Movie. On the contrary, I consider film to be too formal :lol:

Pompous film academic view here, but Film definitely, Movie is too Americanised and I'm used to discussing films in an academic context so 'film' feels much more appropriate in referring to the medium as a whole. 'Cinema' is also a great term, but that seems to be exclusively used to refer to the screening houses these days.

I definitely prefer film but then I'm British and movie is specifically American English language.

However, I will use both in writing if it feels like I'm repeating the word film too often. Don't use movie in speech though. Also happy with the term cinema which if I'm right is a more European usage

This is funny because in English, I more often tend to use 'movie' for no particular reason, so I chose that in the poll. But in my first language, the word is also 'film', with no variation that I'm aware of. So when I speak that, I say 'film' but when I speak English, I say 'movie' :lol:

 

'Cinema' or 'the pictures' tho? Lol. Always 'cinema' for me!
