Chart Commentary

 

 

Taylor Swift's ME! is dethroned this week as another big name arrives at the top spot. Shawn Mendes scores his fifth chart topper with If I Can't Have You, just over a year after In My Blood also hit the top spot. It's his eleventh top 10 hit, continuing his run of top 10 hit singles that only leaves out Life of the Party. Every single from Oh Cecilia onwards has made the top 10 (confusingly, Oh Cecilia is listed first in his chart history due to the Vamps solo version charting - the single mix with Shawn charted after Life of the Party).

Climbing six spots to #4, this week's highest climber is Painkiller by Ruel. It debuted at #10 last week after a midweek release, and now becomes Ruel's third top 5 hit in its first full week. It's also spurred on by his new Europe tour announcement, which I nabbed a ticket to during the week!

My relationship with the Buzzjack Song Contest is a shaky one these days since I ceased entering regularly at the end of 2017. I've entered four contests out of the fourteen that have elapsed since then, and finally achieved my first qualifying entry with Bea Miller and 6LACK's it's not u it's me, a #2 hit in my chart that descends 6-9 this week. For the first time in a while, I've made a really brilliant discovery too - Mimoza first appeared in my chart last year alongside Tyron Hapi on his song Anyway. Her solo single Love For Days came out towards the end of last year but it passed me by, until now, where it becomes her first top 10 hit, entering at #5.

Swedish production duo NOTD haven't made my chart before, though they scored a Spotify hit with current top 10 artist Bea Miller on I Wanna Know. Their new single is a collaboration with British singer HRVY and sees them score their very first hit for me. HRVY on the other hand is a seasoned top 10 artist, scoring his sixth top 10, all achieved consecutively beginning with his sole #1 hit Hasta Luego last year.
