May 25, 20196 yr Author Panic! at the Disco is surely more relevant than Rammstein? High Hopes was a huge international hit. I'd argue Slipknot are just as relevant right now as well.
May 25, 20196 yr Rammstein definitely deserve best song though, the rest aren't much competition and Deutschland is superb! Hopefully best album can go to Architects but I wouldn't mind BMTH either, best British live act should hopefully be Architects, Enter Shikari or Don Broco. The nominations for best British act and best international act are all stunning.
May 26, 20196 yr I feel the problem with these nominations is its Kerrang once again playing it totally safe. Aside from the breakthrough categories nearly every act nominated has beeen around for ages. I appreciate that with experience comes expertise of sorts but most of these bands are well passed their best. When Biffy Clyro are considered among Britain's best bands you're being really, very unimaginative when there are bands like Saint Agnes, Hands Off Gretel or Loathe who have all put exceptionally good albums in the last 12 months As for International Acts - Panic! At The Disco I personally would struggle to justify their inclusion. High Hopes is more of a pop song than anything that normally falls under Kerrang's remit. Foo Fighters and Metallica have done nothing recently and Slipknot I could say might regain some of their brilliance on the new album but the single is underwhelming. And if touring alone is enough to make the list then Slayer should be on there. I saw them back in November at Cardiff and they were easily among the most astonishing shows I've ever seen live. Well, the shortlisting is also voted for by the public. Which is why there are big bands there even though they haven't released anything (I suppose they count because they perform live). And to be fair, Kerrang do cover Panic! still, and were on a couple of front covers last year. So it's usually the bands with the bigger fanbases that make it onto here. May 26, 20196 yr That's one of the problems Kerrang has. It's too reliant on what's popular and features these acts far too heavily, often for no good reason but if it doesn't it's sales plummet for the week. It's a catch 22 for them and they've never found a balance that works beyond that. Sadly it means a once groundbreaking publication gets derided as commercialist or - as I often hear, 'for 14 year olds'. I haven't bought it for many years now but still flick through if I see a copy in a shop
