Lil Nas X's 'Old Town Road' Tops Billboard Hot 100 for Ninth Week, the Most This Year, & DaBaby's 'Suge' Hits Top 10

By Gary Trust | June 03, 2019 12:56 PM EDT

Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road," featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, rules the Billboard Hot 100 chart for a ninth week, the chart's longest reign this year. It passes Ariana Grande's "7 Rings," which dominated for eight weeks beginning with its debut at No. 1 on the list dated Feb. 2.

Meanwhile, Billie Eilish ascends to No. 2 on the Hot 100 with "Bad Guy" and DaBaby hits the top 10, as his debut entry "Suge" surges from No. 14 to No. 9.

"Road" (nine weeks at No. 1) and "Rings" (eight) are two of six songs to reach No. 1 on the Hot 100 for the first time in 2019. The others: Halsey's "Without Me" (two weeks), Post Malone and Swae Lee's "Sunflower (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse)," Jonas Brothers' "Sucker" and Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper's "Shallow" (one week each).

As on the Hot 100, "Road" (on Columbia Records) leads the Streaming Songs chart for a ninth week, with 115.3 million U.S. streams, down 12%, in the week ending May 30, according to Nielsen Music; a week earlier, it drew 130.7 million in the tracking week encompassing the first seven days of availability for its official video, released May 17. "Road" set the record for the top streaming week ever following the April 5 arrival of its remix with Cyrus and now claims eight of the 10 biggest frames to date, including the top three:

Total weekly U.S. streams, Title, Artist, Chart date

143 million, "Old Town Road," Lil Nas X feat. Billy Ray Cyrus, April 20, 2019

130.7 million, "Old Town Road," June 1, 2019

125.2 million, "Old Town Road," April 27, 2019

116.2 million, "In My Feelings," Drake, July 28, 2018

115.3 million, "Old Town Road," June 8, 2019

114.4 million, "Old Town Road," May 4, 2019

106.2 million, "In My Feelings," Aug. 4, 2018

104.1 million, "Old Town Road," May 18, 2019

104 million, "Old Town Road," May 11, 2019

103.1 million, "Old Town Road," May 25, 2019

"Road" logs a sixth week atop the Digital Song Sales chart with 81,000 downloads sold, up 8%, in the week ending May 30, good for the Hot 100's top Sales Gainer award.

On the Radio Songs chart, "Road" holds at its No. 3 high, with 95.3 million audience impressions, up 8%, in the week ending June 2.

"Road" concurrently commands the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs charts for a ninth week each.

Eilish's "Bad Guy" rises 3-2 on the Hot 100, marking a new best rank for the song (and for Eilish, among her 16 entries to date). The track, from Eilish's debut LP, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, which returns to No. 1 on the Billboard 200, keeps at its No. 2 high on Streaming Songs (38.7 million, up 1%) and jumps 9-4 on Digital Song Sales (20,000, up 10%) and 35-22 on Radio Songs (38.2 million, up 29%).

Notably, "Road" commands the Hot 100 with a nearly three-to-one points lead over "Guy." If "Guy" peaks at No. 2, it would become the fifth song to stop at the runner-up spot blocked by "Road," which would tie the record for keeping the most No. 2 hits from reaching the summit; Bryan Adams' "(Everything I Do) I Do It for You," in 1991, and Percy Faith and His Orchestra's "Theme From A Summer Place" (1960) share the mark by holding off five No. 2 hits each.

Khalid's "Talk" climbs 5-3 on the Hot 100, tying his best career rank; he reached No. 3 as featured, with Alessia Cara, on Logic's "1-800-273-8255" in September 2017. "Talk" takes top Airplay Gainer honors (up 16% to 88.4 million) on the Hot 100 and leads the Hot R&B Songs chart for a sixth week.

Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber's "I Don't Care" drops to No. 4 on the Hot 100 after spending its first two weeks on the chart at No. 2, and Jonas Brothers' "Sucker" slips 4-5, while adding a fifth week atop Radio Songs (105.8 million, up less than 1%).

Post Malone and Swae Lee's "Sunflower" rebounds 7-6, swapping spots with the former's "Wow." (6-7), which reached No. 2, and Sam Smith and Normani's "Dancing With a Stranger" holds at No. 8 after hitting No. 7.

DaBaby scores his first Hot 100 top 10, as "Suge," his first entry on the survey, bounds 14-9. The breakthrough hit, whose title references former Death Row Records CEO Marion "Suge" Knight, ranks at No. 4 on Streaming Songs (35.2 million, up 17%, as it wins the Hot 100's top Streaming Gainer nod), debuts on Radio Songs at No. 50 (22.4 million, up 25%) and sports 5,000 sold (up 17%).

The track is from Baby on Baby, the debut studio album from the rapper, 27 (born Jonathan Lyndale Kirk), which entered the Billboard 200 at No. 25 in March, reached the top 10 on the May 25-dated chart and hit a No. 7 high a week ago.

Rounding out the Hot 100's top 10, Ava Max's debut hit "Sweet but Psycho" is steady at its No. 10 peak to date.

Just below the Hot 100's top 10, Young Thug, J. Cole and Travis Scott's "The London" launches at No. 12, led by its No. 3 start on Streaming Songs (30.6 million), and the top two titles, respectively, on the Hot Country Songs chart each reach the Hot 100's top 20: Morgan Wallen's "Whiskey Glasses" (26-17), marking his first top 20 entry, and Blake Shelton's "God's Country" (24-20), granting him his first visit to the region since 2013.
