Lil Nas X's 'Old Town Road' Leads Hot 100 for 14th Week, Lizzo's 'Truth Hurts' Hits Top 10

By Gary Trust | July 08, 2019 12:44 PM EDT

Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road," featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, leads the Billboard Hot 100 for a 14th week, becoming one of just 10 smashes to dominate for at least that long. It's the first since Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee's "Despacito" (featuring Justin Bieber), which spent a record-tying 16 weeks at No. 1 in 2017.

Meanwhile, Lizzo leaps to her first Hot 100 top 10, as "Truth Hurts" bounds from No. 11 to No. 6.

With a 14th week atop the Hot 100 for "Old Town Road," here's a look at the 10 longest-leading No. 1s in the chart's six-decade history:

Weeks at No. 1, Title, Artist, Date Reached No. 1

16, "Despacito," Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee feat. Justin Bieber, May 27, 2017

16, "One Sweet Day," Mariah Carey & Boyz II Men, Dec. 2, 1995

14, "Old Town Road," Lil Nas X feat. Billy Ray Cyrus, April 13, 2019

14, "Uptown Funk!," Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars, Jan. 17, 2015

14, "I Gotta Feeling," The Black Eyed Peas, July 11, 2009

14, "We Belong Together," Mariah Carey, June 4, 2005

14, "Candle in the Wind 1997"/"Something About the Way You Look Tonight," Elton John, Oct. 11, 1997

14, "Macarena (Bayside Boys Mix)," Los Del Rio, Aug. 3, 1996

14, "I'll Make Love to You," Boyz II Men, Aug. 27, 1994

14, "I Will Always Love You," Whitney Houston, Nov. 28, 1992

As on the Hot 100, "Road" (on Columbia Records) leads the Streaming Songs chart for a 14th week, with 89.3 million U.S. streams, up 1%, in the week ending July 4, according to Nielsen Music. "Road" set the record for the top streaming week (143 million) following the April 5 arrival of its remix with Cyrus and claims nine of the 11 biggest streaming frames to date, including the top three.

"Road" spends a 10th week atop the Digital Song Sales chart with 57,000 downloads sold, down 4%, in the week ending July 4. It's the 13th song to log double-digit weeks at No. 1 (and earns the honor a week after becoming the first song to sell 1 million downloads in 2019).

On Radio Songs, where it reached No. 2, "Road" regresses 4-6, with 75.8 million audience impressions, down 8%, in the week ending July 7.

"Road" concurrently rules the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs charts for a 14th week each and the Songs of the Summer survey for a sixth frame, following the seasonal survey's annual return after Memorial Day.

Billie Eilish's "Bad Guy" rebounds from No. 3 on the Hot 100 for a fourth total week at its No. 2 high, while holding at No. 2 on Streaming Songs (41 million, up 1%) and No. 8 on Digital Song Sales (20,000, down 7%) and lifting 8-7 on Radio Songs (75.7 million, up 12%).

(How far ahead is "Old Town Road" over "Bad Guy" on the Hot 100 in overall metrics this week? "Road" slightly increases its lead, with a robust 1.9-to-1 points difference, after leading by 1.8-to-1 last week.)

Khalid's "Talk" returns to its Hot 100 peak, rising 4-3, as it tops Radio Songs for a fourth week (126.9 million, up 7%), as it leads the streaming-, airplay- and sales-fueled Hot R&B Songs chart for an 11th frame.

Ed Sheeran and Bieber's "I Don't Care" lifts 5-4 on the Hot 100, after debuting at its No. 2 highpoint, and Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello's "Señorita" drops to No. 5 a week after debuting at No. 2; still, the latter track zooms in as the top debut on Radio Songs, at No. 30 (33.2 million).

Lizzo lands her first Hot 100 top 10, as "Truth Hurts" hurtles 11-6. The track charges 7-3 on Digital Song Sales (25,000, up 19%), 10-8 on Streaming Songs (26.5 million, up 11%) and 27-14 on Radio Songs (44.5 million, up 30%).

Lizzo (born Melissa Viviane Jefferson in Detroit) originally released the song in September 2017 and it has received renewed attention after being featured in the Netflix rom-com Someone Great, which premiered April 19. The song has also been added to her new LP Cuz I Love You, which debuted at its No. 6 peak to-date on the Billboard 200 chart dated May 4. Helping propel its profile more recently, Lizzo performed "Truth Hurts" on the 2019 BET Awards on June 23.

Jonas Brothers' "Sucker" slips 6-7 on the Hot 100, after spending a week at No. 1 upon its debut in March, and Post Malone and Swae Lee's "Sunflower (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse)" returns to the top 10 (12-8), after logging a week on top in January. "Sunflower" scores top Streaming Gainer honors (31.5 million, up 15%), after Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was added to Netflix on June 26.

Rounding out the Hot 100's top 10, Chris Brown's "No Guidance," featuring Drake, keeps at its No. 9 high and DaBaby's "Suge" retreats to No. 10 from its No. 7 peak.

Just outside the Hot 100's top 10, two songs enter the top 20: Blanco Brown's breakthrough hit "The Git Up" (29-16) and Panic! at the Disco's "Hey Look Ma, I Made It" (24-18). The former takes over atop the Hot Country Songs chart and the latter leads Hot Rock Songs for a second week, as the songs claim the Hot 100's top Sales Gainer (34,000, up 39%) and top Airplay Gainer (74.9 million, up 16%) awards, respectively.

Plus, Sheeran's "Beautiful People," featuring Khalid, opens as the Hot 100's top debut at No. 26.

looks like it might break the 16 weeks record
