I dont see why anyone should accept unnacceptable actions of a Govt (and there is a difference here, between a country and its Govt..), especially when those actions involve killing people's relatives or their fellow countrymen for no reason other than to arse-lick the fukkin' Yanks.... <_<

i was on about the indiginous religion, not the governments actions.

Scott - I think you're missing the point entirely here, probably deliberately  :P

Britain has certain rules, traditions and quirks, like any other country. We all have to abide by them, like it or not (sometimes).

At best it's rude and unacceptable to come to Britain, enjoy all the benefits (not only social) of being here - but to stick two fingers up to centuries-old deeply ingrained traditions, laws and ways of life... however liberal you are, even you abide by these rules, Scott, as do we all....and as we should.

You would never go live in, say, Saudi Arabia, then start demanding everything changes over there to accomodate little old you - they'd laugh (or stone) you out of the country.

As we should be doing when immigrants come to Britain and try to do the same (laughing them out, preferably, as opposed to stoning).

Mate, I think you're missing the point with all due respect... The facts are that there have NEVER been any organised demonstrations or protests about Christmas or Christmas lights (or anything else for that matter..) or any indigenous 'traditions' or whatever instigated by immigrant populations, that is just BULL$h!t tabloid reportage... Whatever 'cancellations' have occurred have been the product purely of do-gooding, wishy-washy, WHITE liberal, middle class local authorities who think in their tiny PC minds that the people that they are so concerned with not offending actually give a fukk in reality.... And then it all gets hyped up by the press who make out it's some organised protest to do away with Christmas or whatever else when in fact it's only one or two people making a bit of a gripe; which in a 'democratic', 'free' society they're bloody well entitled to do anyway as far as I'm concerned....

Oh, and by the way, some 'traditions' should DEFINITELY be consigned to the rubbish heap of history... Orange Parade marches for example - horrendous, sectarian sh!te making a 'celebration' out of slaughtering innocent people.... I really dont think that these fukkers should have the rights to march down Catholic neighbourhoods in Northern Ireland just cos it's a 'tradition'; "St Patrick's Day" by comparison is a bit of fun, has a party atmosphere and is inclusive of everyone (you dont have to be a Catholic or even Irish in order to take part..)..... Orange Parades are, by contrast, aggressive, macho posturing which are totally divisive...
Scott.... I wasn't aware Britain was asking its immigrants to participate in Orange marches?

Nah, I was just talking generally about traditions which have no place in the Britain of 2006.... I reckon the Orange Marches are pretty good contenders for putting in Room 101....
