April 25, 20205 yr I'm a bit of a Mystery Jets fanboy, I must admit. Finding the album quite interesting. It's a more refined sound than what they've put out before and it doesn't retain as many of the instantaneously memorable MJ quirks which are present in many of their previous records, but there are elements which are quite familiar. There are some excellent songs, however, many of which will sound wonderful when performed live. I think 'Petty Drone' is my favourite at this moment, if not for anything else than the pulsating verses. I was also quite interested to hear that 'Watching Yourself Slowly Dissappear' was directly influenced by the passing of Scott Hutchison of Frightened Rabbit. Two of my favourite bands but two which have never previously been connected, especially musically, so it's inspiring to know that Blaine was touched like so many more were. It's really evident in the lyrics, actually: Hey you're upon the edge Where the bond breaks are beckoning The wind whips around your head But the silence is deafening If you call out, if you call out If you call out we'll be here U-H8jJAh8W4
April 25, 20205 yr Who would have thought out of all the mid noughties bands they would be one of the survivors!
June 25, 20205 yr A new single 'Witness' released, must be for the cd release! Edited June 25, 20205 yr by Steve201
June 25, 20205 yr Author A deluxe version has been released! 3 new tracks: Witness, A Secret and City of Blood. Might as well give the whole album another listen later on :)
June 25, 20205 yr Author Something interesting I read the other day is that Blaine's father Henry, who was in their first lineup (and looked massively out of place!) still contributes keys and guitar to every album!
June 26, 20205 yr The whole album is great, though I think I've only listened to it as an album once. Due to the unfortunate circumstances that ended with so much of it being out before it came out, I'd already listened to 6 of its 10 songs a lot, so have just spent the last couple of months doing the same to the four which weren't previously released.
June 26, 20205 yr It's a real return to form for me - the last few albums have been a little uninspiring whereas this one sounds fresh. Got the CD on order so hopefully that will arrive next week, and looking forward to seeing them later this year on two dates (third time lucky as the last two times they've tried to tour have had to be cancelled!)
July 2, 20204 yr 'The Curve Of the Earth' is my favourite of theirs personally followed closely by 'Radlands'
