Anita looked really great I thought I think Etcetera looked far less put together and should have been in the bottom with Karen who looked DREADFUL. Fab too three but I think i’d have had Art safe and Anita in the top honestly

Ok just watched the episode, the drama!! I think this was more entertaining than the past few by virtue of that, didn't necessarily expect Etc being a shady bitch but I love it :lol:

 

I'd actually have given Maxi the win, that was really unexpected from her! She had a harder material to work with but it was really well constructed with a great concept, definitely her best runway so far! Otherwise I agree with the tops, Art's outfit was great, really well constructed with a good balance of character without losing the outfit and the fact that it actually is a design challenge. I think had she had better hair though, I'd have put Elektra top over Art! Scarlet's outfit was great too, campy but glam, but you kind of expect that from her. I don't why they're pushing her quite so much, from the two wins in a row to shoving her down our throats with all the confessionals. Her runways are great, she's clearly got a great eye, but knowing what we know, I can't believe that they have edited it this way and are pushing her like that. It's not like she has a big personality, even without the racism for me she is just a generic bitchy twink you often get on the show.

 

I'm torn on the bottoms, I'd argue that Etc should have been there instead of Anita. Anita's wasn't constructed SUPER well but imo it wasn't as bad as the judges made out? There was less character or concept than others, but she did kind of sell it with her runway presentation and I think she was a bit more ambitous than Etc or Karen. With Karen's I LOVED the concept, that could have been so funny if she'd constructed an outfit better and then supplemented it with the camped up character, but she *relied* on the camp instead. Etc's was just not good, it was kinda like she did half of it and then ran out of time so just had to roll with it.

 

Sadly I do think Anita lost that lipsync, I think it would have been easier to take her elimination (even though she was my fave along with the other Kiwi girls) had she outright been the worst in that challenge and it was unavoidable, but she wasn't.

Anita :( my heart!!! Such a sweetheart and Etcetera was definetly worse!! So annoying although I do think she lost the lipaync sadly.

 

I really can't take to Scarlet at all, I find her really nasty and bitchy, very similar to A'whora who was loved but not as talented, I agree with Liam I would have given the win to Maxi who really shocked me! Prior to the runway I thought she was going to be bottom.

 

Happy Art has come back, an absolute star and manages to be cocky/confident whilst still having a likeable charm to them.

Karen in my view has been crap so far every single week.

I am really struggling with this season, and it seems to be getting worse. Scarlet and Etcetara are both so mean and it's very unpleasant to watch. Of course we expect some shade every now and then, but how both of them were jumping on Elektra was plain and simple bullying. I find it incredibly problematic how the producers think it's okay to broadcast this on such a queer-led show. Adding that to Scarlet's racism (in the past?) just makes it impossible to root for her.

 

And what a shame to get rid of Anita! I thought Karen's lip sync wasn't good at all. Yay for getting a Minogue song though, that was a highlight.

 

Art coming back was not a surprise, she was one of the strongest so can't be mad, at the same time it's strange. Why did JoJo not get a second chance? Having the two queens of colour being eliminated first, yet promoting two racist queens is a CHOICE.

To me bringing Art back makes me think they planned it all along, the Snatch Game elim was just done for an early gag, and they would have brought her back regardless of what happened. I'm glad to have her back, we certainly need her after losing Anita, but hmm. I'm sure had they done a challenge for it and had some illusion of fairness, Art still would have won!

Honesty it just writes off episode 2 really, Anita won THE token Drag Race challenge, but they've just binned her now, and then Art went but they just brought her back anyway ke nothing happened. I'm surprised they didn't just chuck Elektra n the bottom anyway for the wig, god knows they did it for less last week, instead of a front runner and their so-far protected fave :lol:

 

It's a shame this series is SUCH a mess, I love Aussie culture and was really excited for this but it feels like after every episode, there's so much wrong with the show that has ruined it. The only episode that really had the right winner was Snatch Game and they still pulled some bullshit putting everyone low when Elektra, Scarlet and Maxi were fine in the actual challenge.

The queens themselves are getting me through it but the judging (under ru might i add) is really odd. Also the art simone thing should have been like the return in UKS2...I really do think Art woulda still won that due to everyone being shocked she went home second.

I quite liked this episode but I always feel like eliminating someone on a challenge like this is harsh

 

I was so happy to see Art back (so much better than the other two eliminated queens) but there should have been more of an explanation as to why

 

I would have actually given Art or Maxi the win. I didn’t really understand how Scarlets look was better than theirs

What a weird episode, I actually dozed off watching it which doesn't help.

 

Really gutted about the result, the lip sync was naff from both of them, expected more.

Anita was the only one I was really rooting for, and she had been amazingly strong up until now. Such a weird decision. Karen has been doing awful every single week, but I guess her being a bigger name is saving her... just like how being a big name also allowed Art to return to the competition with no explanation. I would so prefer to see it play out naturally.

That challenge was... it existed? Elektra definitely did by far the best so at least they got the right winner, Kita was solid. Probably the right bottom 2 but it could have been Art or Scarlet too, they really had no idea where they were going. Karen wasn't great either for something you'd expect to be her challenge.

 

Honestly though that was EASILY the best lipsync of the season, Maxi absolutely ATE but I feel like both of them really felt the song. It wasn't too much it was just embodying the joy of the song. Thank god they didn't waste my ultimate lipsync song :lol: I'd say a double shantay there wouldn't be too much of a stretch but we don't need to prolong this season really.

Art Simone has hinted on twitter that Etc and Scarlet had a big blowup in the werkroom that was edited out. Surprise surprise then we get Scarlet Safe and Etc knocked out...

 

I feel for the guest judge, she seemed totally out of her depth and Michelle didn't seem to know what to say either.

 

But I will say this too: I think Ru and Michelle genuinely don't know what can be said on tv stations elsewhere around the world. I've always thought Drag Race US is kind of coy with all the ways it avoids directly swearing, using actual names for genitals etc. etc. but I figured that's to get around US obscenity laws. But those don't apply everywhere. It's kind of crazy that they were more offended by the word 'piss' than they were by Kita literally eating dog crap from a jar and putting it up her nose.

I thought it was odd they didn’t have an Untucked bit, I feel like Etc must have gone off there and it’s almost like they wanted to just touch on it to say they did, but not really deal with it or have Scarlet face any consequences.

 

I really fear they’re going to try some redemption shit with Scarlet since Ru didn’t seem phased :/

 

Very good point about Michelle and Ru too, again because they’re American they kind of judge situations like they are still broadcasting in the US - see A’Whora and her joke about her nan. Etc , Scarlet and Karen’s ads toed the line for sure but were definitely very Aussie humour and it’s drag! Ofc there is going to be humour like that. Indeed, they do seem kinda prudish almost? I mean, it was definitely not my kind of humor but it was quite tame, wasn't it? I have seen a lot worse on local television over here, that's for sure.

 

Delighted Elektra won after all the hate she has gotten from the other queens, she really did the best job this week and I was happy to see her being celebrated <3 Easily my favourite person left.

 

The whole Scarlet storyline on the other hand.. Everyone knows her past, it's all over the internet. The producers shouldn't have let her on the show in the first place, this whole fake thing Ru did with her having to explain herself was so cringe. You just know Ru wants to play the "we all learn" narritive and she won't face any consequences whatsoever.

Yes, I meant to mention the thing with A'Whora too! Like... I feel like I'm not sure that either of them has actually ever been to a local drag show in the UK or in Oz if something even that tame can shock them.

 

I do kinda find it funny still how the drag scene in the US is so different. I saw a performance recently of Aquaria dancing in a bar and getting money thrown at her and it just seems... not quite seedy but so weird that they are totally fine with queens being literal bar dancers for tips - the only UK equivalent I can think of is like, strippers at a strip club - but yet a bit of swearing or actual rude words without a euphemism in standup or in a comedy challenge really gets their knickers in a twist and has them shaking their heads because A Line Has Been Crossed!

 

And on that note! Troye Sivan talking about anal sex in graphic detail last week was totally fine apparently?!

I think that might be one of the biggest problems about this series for me, the fact Ru and Michelle are applying the same parameters to this as they would a US series. It's a different scene with different styles of drag, the looks are different, the humour is different, but they just don't seem to get that. I think that's why Scarlet is being so favoured, she could easily be the bitchy fashion twink on a US season. With a scene with the Aussie drag scene, it's going to be much more direct, with more low-brow humour, that bit more camp than perhaps a lot of US queens would be.

 

But I mean to me, without sounding like one of those fake woke 16 year old new fans, misogynistic humour about discharge I would say is worse than a bit of piss humour. I just think Etcetera's ad wasn't funny enough regardless of what she was making jokes out of, that was the problem and that was enough justification for her to be in the bottom without pretending that some piss jokes was too far when Karen's whole ad was about discharge :lol:

 

It's on Stan in Australia which is like Netflix so I would't have thought there'd even be much problem there (and clearly it wasn't, it was shown), you'd have thought they'd know what they could and couldn't get away with, you'd check around it surely working in a new place with different regulations?
