What's the latest the House of Commons has sat? The chamber is still full now.

Can't seem to find the answer but there have been a lot of late sittings over the years. They left at just before 2am last night after rejecting Boris's request for an election for a second time.. At a mere guess I'd say that won't be the latest.

EDIT. Sky news has just said it was the latest sitting since the English Civil war.

That’s rubbish. The Commons has sat all night and into the following afternoon in our lifetime.

Remember though, as was pointed out on TV today, the new law doesn't actually say no to no deal. All it does, which surprises me, is compel the PM to ask for an extension, in good faith. If he asks but it's blocked then he's complied with the law and we leave by default. What's to stop him asking a poorer member to veto it? ;) Wouldn't put anything past them at present.

Colluding with a foreign power to defy the will of parliament and act, according to the government's own assessments, against the best interests of the country? I'm sure there's a word for that - begins with T and rhymes with reason.

I believe the Sky News reference was to the length of the parliamentary session, i.e. a little over two years. That is being used by the government as an excuse for the prorogation. That is, of course, disingenuous at best.

Yeh there's been loadsa times when the commons have sat all night!

On some of those occasions, the sitting has gone beyond the scheduled start of the next day's business. That means that the day's business is lost and, in parliamentary terms, the day didn't exist.

He hasn't actually won a vote yet. With his decision to prorogue parliament prematurely, he will have been PM for at least three months before he wins a vote.

You almost sound surprised that Chris has been speaking total rubbish?

I said almost.

The scenes last night were pretty awful, the so-called Government (though it has no working majority and no way of governing right now) has brought it upon itself but I fear that Boris has not only silenced our representative democracy, but wilfully wrecked it to score a cheap political point.

The UK is heading towards becoming a failed state.

I just misunderstood what Sky News said. I'm only human so can't be right every time. :)

Apparently Bojo and Gove are fighting against rhe yellow papers of Brexshit being released. They said if they get out, Brexshit "is over" THEY KNOW HOW BAD IT IS GOING TO BE AND WON'T TELL THE PEOPLE! They jsut put me, me, me first, country last.

Indeed - but how about turning Sky News OFF once in a while and enjoying the great outdoors?

According to twitter a senior Tory has apparently quoted Cummings today of saying “I don’t care if Northern Ireland falls into the f*cking sea” :o I do think it's time Boris got rid of him. Think he's giving him bad advice.

You always see lords bringing duvets and pillows to their office!

I thought most Lords slept through most proceedings anyway. :P

Suspension of Parliament ruled illegal by the Scottish court. Interesting how the English judges had a different view... If the ruling stands in the appeals court, then parliament will have to resume! The MORE NUMEROUS opposition could also resume parliament in Scotland :o

Government REFUSES its legal obligations of releasing the yellowhammer Brexshit documents too. Another court case comin up?
