BREAKING NEWS FROM REUTERS.

The mood music out of Brussels is the new UK idea is just too complicated and risky. And certainly not enough time to make it work if it could.

Also other report says the UK did not provide enough detail over the weekend and far more detail is needed from Johnson.

Jennifer Rankin for Reuters from Brussels.

Summary: the UK bid to get a new customs partnership negotiated in a week is too complicated, too risky for EU.

Both sides are reluctantly heading for a third Brexit extension.

.

Most other journalists and commentators agree talks likely to break down mid week trying to get a deal by the deadline.

Perhaps Johnson can sell the idea to the public a deal is in sight but an extra three months needed to finalise it.

Well, this aged like milk.

We will have a deal this week. I am confident of it.

Patience my friend is a virtue.

It's quite impressive how often and how quickly you change your tune.

As we have seen many times, even in the past week, any/all predictions are likely to age fast - and badly. The fact that Chris seems to be eating up all of the Number 10 mandated propaganda as though it were spoken by the gods and carved in stone means that he is flapping about all over the place, more so than usual.

Classic Dom.

Thank you - so you *do* know how to provide sources - we shouldn't have to ask for them.

Of all people to write this. The constant condescension, hypocrisy, and pedantic non-answers have really worn thin.

Jennifer Rankin again for Reuters in Brussels tonight:

"My contacts saying Michel Barnier is pressing very hard this weekend for a near identical NI only backstop.

Basically would be May's old deal. Could enough Labour MP's get behind it and the ERG?

Could Boris stomach it just to say he got Brexit done?"

Boris should go all out for it now and put May's deal to the Commons on Saturday again and bang some heads together, some bribes if necessary to get the thing passed.

The one that he voted against twice ?

The one that he voted against twice ?

Yes well we need to get out and the will of the electorate needs to take place.

The Daily Telegraph saying that Boris is absolutely furious with the EU tonight as it's demanding more concessions. Reporting there could be a deal this week if the UK gives more concessions.

Boris saying the EU just don't want any deal.

At any cost, to the exclusion of all logic and reason.

This!!

So basically Boris is going to go with trying to get May's withdrawal deal through for a 4th time? The way in which negotiations are being rushed at the last minute isn't promising. Hopefully if it's put for a 4th vote it will once again lose and an extension with a second referendum will get the go ahead. Hopefully there'll be a remain win and we can start putting brexit behind us.

However, if leave win the government need to engage dicsussions revolving around withdrawl right away and not waste so much time and continue to run down the clock like they have done consistently. If the UK does leave the EU with or without a deal, there'll likely be another decade or so of talks revolving around trade/security/energy/science/education etc etc. Leaving with no deal will likely lead to a lot more frustration in the long run and further lengthen the time that talks take place. Not to mention the negative impacts it will cause, as has been consistently warned about.

If we don't retract article 50, brexit likely won't be fully over and done with until the early 2030s at the earliest.

More spin. This whole process over the last few weeks has been a complete sham, dressed up by Cummings (the unelected bureaucrat, guilty of contempt of Parliament) to convince the gullible.
