ALL STARS

Thanks to everyone who participated in the nomination rounds, we're now left with 100 of the best Eurovision tracks of the decade. But there's only space for 40 in the grand final. Whether you're a novice looking to dive right into the prime of the 2010s at Eurovision or a seasoned veteran who's already anticipating FiKmas in about 100 days time, everyone is welcome to vote!

Guys, suggestion - include the semi number in the thread title so that all the non-Eurovision normies (hi x) who browse via the board index realise that there's a different round going on!

just a guess but from personal experience I often click when there's a title I haven't seen before on the index

stacked semi-final yes but a couple of tracks that make me wonder how they got this far (x my heart & I can't go on chiefly). OPA and DoReDos too but for those two I'm NOT COMPLAINING *.*

Germany_zpsa86d208f.png

Germany 2010

Lena - Satellite

Our first All Star finalist is the very first winner of the whole shebang this decade. Germany drastically overhauled their selection process back in 2010, resulting in their second victory at the contest with a fresh face talent named Lena. 'Satellite' went on to be a moderate chart hit across Europe, including the top 30 in the UK. This didn't have to face the indignity of the nomination rounds as it won Buzzvision all the way back in 2010 and it sails through here as well!

Latvia 2015

Aminata - Love Injected

A solid Euro fact here: Latvia have only qualified twice this decade, both with involvement of Baltic ARTPOP queen Aminata. She's basically the modern day Johnny Logan. A real fan favourite back in 2015, she managed to secure 6th place, including the silver medal with the juries. A definite All Star of the 2010s.

Italy 2019

Mahmood - Soldi

After 14 years in the wilderness, Italy made their return to the grand prix de l'Eurovision in 2011 with an absolute shower of piss that, in no fishy way possible, stormed the jury vote and finished in 2nd place. Italy have since been a regular feature in the top 10, perhaps the biggest success story of the decade behind la Suède. Another so close yet so far happened for the soul shatteringly beautiful Mahmood this year. 'Soldi' has gone on to be the biggest chart hit of the contest this year across Europe and beyond, amassing over 115 million plays on Spotify.

Austria 2014

Conchita Wurst - Rise Like A Phoenix

Probably the most well known participant, let alone winner of the decade? I think so. Returning after a brief 'wah Eastern Europe bloc votes wah it's not me it's you wah' break to little success, Austrian broadcaster ORF tore up the rule book on internal selections when Conchita Wurst was revealed as their entrant back in 2014. Would it work? Would the so called Eastern Bloc vote for this? Well, with hindsight, it's hard to see how a bearded drag queen singing a James Bond theme DOESN'T win Eurovision, but at the time it did seem a little unreachable. Conchita smashed both the jury and the televote to take his rightful crown.

Denmark 2013

Emmelie de Forest - Only Teardrops

And Emmelie makes 3 as all of the winners make it through to the final! 2013 was a weird year I seem to recall where it seemed to be a done deal all through national final season that this would walk it in May. And it did pretty much. Denmark I find usually send very, shall we say bland, entries but my Conchita when they win, they do it with a stellar Euro classic.

Armenia 2016

Iveta Mukuchyan - LoveWave

Following on from Aminata's success the year before in Vienna, Armenia decided to take a dip in the avant garde pond for themselves, gifting us with the power of 'LoveWave', a song all about the female orgasm. I feel we need more songs to tackle this very interesting topic at the contest. Perhaps tipped to do better, in the stellar year that was 2016, 7th place was actually a very respectable result for another 'out-there' song.

Azerbaijan_zps7520f665.png

Azerbaijan 2010

Safura - Drip Drop

And to address political balance, Azerbaijan also make it through to the final, with 'Drip Drop'. Supposedly, the Azeri team spent $1million on the entry that year, Malta could never! And it was money well spent, right up until the random running order draw f***ed it for them, resulting in 5th place. They would have to wait one whole year for that elusive first and to date only victory.

Australia 2019

Kate Miller-Heidke - Zero Gravity

I'm still not 100% sure how it happened (I mean I'm 99% sure it was the $$$) but the 2010s was the decade that Australia entered Eurovision. 4 top 10's out of 5 leaves them a force to be reckoned with, but how do you compete with popera and gymnastics at the Eurovision Song Contest? Well this spectacle only came 9th and in a rare occurance from me, I declare Australia 2019 UNDERMARKED. I probably won't be using that phrase again.

Switzerland 2019

Luca Hänni - She Got Me

Our penultimate qualifying spot tonight goes to Switzerland's Miss Luca Hänni. In a growing trend, Switzerland ditched their cute but ultimately crap national final and went internal and despite his height handicap, Luca Hänni won their ticket to Tel Aviv. An instant fan favourite, the male Fuego-lite validated the Swiss broadcaster's decision to go it alone, qualifying for their first final in 5 years, and achieving 4th place in the final, their best result in 26 years!

Moldova 2018

DoReDoS - My Lucky Day

Let's end this semi final of the best of the 2010s with an exquisite 2000s esque qualifier! After achieving a phenomenal 3rd place in 2017 (although not good enough to qualify for this competition ny2) Moldova managed back to back top 10's with this ESL banger. A mere €20,000 was spent on the staging, proof that you can do success on a budget, take note Malta!
