Chartifacts

from ARIA.com.au

Now the second longest running No.1 this decade, Sandi Thom's "I Wish I Was

a Punk Rocker (with Flowers in My Hair)" falls to No.3 this week, only to be

replaced by two

rockers, one of which are kinda classed as Punk Rockers.

U2 and Green Day duet and debut at No.1 this week with the track "The Saints

are Coming", which is taken off U2's forthcoming "U218 Singles" album, out

November 18th.

As U2 are in Australia at the moment for their Vertigo 06 tour, it's fitting

that they reach No.1 with this new single, and it becomes their fifth No.1

single here, the last of which

debuted at No.1, "Beautiful Day" back in October 2000. Their four previous

No.1's were...

Oct 1988 - Desire (2 weeks)

Nov 1991 - The Fly (1 week) - debuted at No.1

July 1995 - Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me (6 weeks) - debuted at No.1

Oct 2000 - Beautiful Day (1 week) - debuted at No.1

It's the first time that the word 'Saint' has appeared in a No.1 song,

although the All Saints have hit No.1 in 1998, but as for a song, there ain't

been no saints. As for the word

'Coming', there has been one previous No.1 song in Australia, back in June 1947,

"You Keep Coming Back Like a Song" by Bing Crosby. This is also Green Day's

first No.1 single,

having previously reached No.2 in 1998 with the double A-Side single "Redundant"

/ "Time of Your Life (Good Riddance)".

This is the 914th No.1 single in Australia, and the 11th Irish Performed

No.1 single, and there have only been 7 Irish Performers to hit No.1, the first

being Richard Harris in

1968 with "MacArthur Park".

There are seven New Entries this week to the Top 50, four of them within the

Top 10. Coming in at No.5 is "Smack That" by Akon, featuring the vocals of

Eminem. It's Akon's

first chart appearance for 2006, having had three solo singles and an appearance

as guest vocalist on Savage's track "Moonshine" in 2005. His biggest hit of 2005

was the 3 week

No.1 single "Lonely" from July. It's also Eminem's first chart appearance since

his January 2006 No.1 single "When I'm Gone".

At No.8 is the fifth Top 10 single of Beyonce's 8 solo single,

"Irreplaceable". It's the second single from her former Top 15 album "B'Day".

Right behind Beyonce at No.9 is Anthony

Callea with his fifth Top 10, and fifth released single. (as he is about 5ft

5inch, 5 Top 10 from 5 releases sounds about right). As the runner-up to 2004's

Australian Idol, Anthony has

made a much bigger chart-mark than that years winner Casey Donovan, and this

track is taken from his second forthcoming album "A New Chapter". His last chart

appearance was

back in October 2005 with the No.5 single "Per Sempre (for Always)", and he has

had two No.1 single with "The Prayer" (Dec 2004) and "Rain" (March 2005).

Just missing out on the Top 10 with her 15th charting single, is Christina

Aguilera at No.11 with "Hurt". It's the second single off her former No.1 album

"Back to Basics". which

has fallen to No.49 this week, and this track is the follow-up to the No.6 track

"Ain't No Other Man" which is sitting at No.47 this week.

Rihanna has had four consecutive Top 10 singles, but this week her fifth

charting single only debuts at No.24. "We Ride" is the third single from the

former Top 10 album "A Girl

Like Me", which featured the No.1 single "SOS" and the No.2 track "Unfaithful",

which is at No.46 this week.

The final Top 50 debut for this week comes in at No.29, and this the first

charting track for US Rockers 30 Seconds to Mars. "The Kill (Bury Me) is the

lead track off their second

album "A Beautiful Lie", and the group is more-so know for their lead singer,

actor Jared Leto, who has starred in the films "Lord of War", "Alexander",

"Panic Room" and "Requiem

for a Dream", and the group also features his brother Shannon Leto.

Human Nature remain at the No.1 position on the National Australian Album

Charts for a third non-consecutive week with their "Dancing in the Streets:The

Songs of Motown 2", and

it now equals the three non-consecutive weeks that their first Motown Collection

album held the top-spot position. In further boy-band news, Westlife release

their Ballads covers album

in a week or two, so maybe they'll go to No.1 again this year too.

The highest new entry comes in at No.5, and is the first Top 10 album for

country artist Keith Urban. "Love, Pain and The Whole Crazy Thing" is the

follow-up to 2004's "Be Here",

which debuted and peaked at No.11 in the last week of September, and stayed for

23 weeks in the Top 50.

The new entry at No.11 is "Skin and Bones" by The Foo Fighters. A Live

recording of Acoustic shows they did in Los Angeles earlier this year, and

features some of the softer tracks

from their 2005's No.1 album "In Your Honour". This is the sixth charting album

in Australia for the Foo's, their first being 1995's self-titled Top 5 album.

Jamiroquai have been charting on the albums chart since 1993's "Emergency on

Planet Earth", and have had a total of six albums chart here in Australia. Their

first 'Best of' debuts

at No.19 this week, entitled "High Times: The Singles 1992-2006". Their previous

best albums were the No.1's "Synkronized" (June 1999) and "A Funk Odyssey" (Sept

2001).

David Campbell has had three Top 50 singles in Australia, all which were

never released on an album. This week his first album debuts at No.21 entitled

"The Swing Sessions". As

it's name suggests, it's an album full of swing music, features such songs as

"The Way You Look Tonight", "Mack the Knife", "Mr. Bojangles" and "Beyond the

Sea".

westlife to number one!!!!

No they are bloody not.

Westlife THINK they are big in Austrailia but in reality they have only had one succesful album which only sold 140,000 on total ^_^

Great for Rudebox doing so well over there :D

Robbie often has 4 or 5 albums in the top 50 and expect it to happen again once he begins his record breaking tour over there :D
