Just picked up my vinyl copy of Spiceworld in HMV :wub: the cashier said “good choice” :lol: *.*

 

Got mine and the GH from HMV today, think my cashier was just happy to serve someone was a bit dead in there.

Received both Spiceworld & GH today from Amazon! (Lol at Spiceworld coming today after all). Both look great. Have to say the Greatest Hits cover has grown on me now that I’m seeing it as an actual item. It looks so much better than the picture disc.

 

Happy to report that the GH vinyl sounds a lot better than the picture disc does!

Shall we have predictions for the Monday midweeks? I'll go for -

#73 Greatest Hits

So hard to predict, but I'll say #32 Spiceworld and #70 Greatest Hits. I hope it's better than that and I certainly hope I'm not overestimating them!

Random observation: the new pressing of Spiceworld has the censored version of the inlay picture of the group, i.e. Victoria's dress has been edited/extended:

In 1997, various formats either had the edited picture or the original. The copies I have:

 

UK CD - edited picture (although there are 'unedited picture' versions of this CD as well)

Minidisc - edited picture

Vinyl 2020 - edited picture

Japanese CD - unedited picture

UK Vinyl 1997 - unedited picture

(The cassette didn't include the picture)

Not sure how this plays out for the actual charts, but it all looks quite low no? They might hit the vinyl charts but I am not sure there is enough hype out there to warrant a Top100 entry for either of the releases on the main chart.

 

Plus, unfortunately the vinyls were released on the week where the UK stores and business is starting to close down due to Miss Corona! It's slowly moving towards that and people are starting to stay at home more, so this will have a HUGE impact on in-store sales for the next few weeks/months.

 

Plus, I havent decided if I am going to buy the new GH or the new Spiceworld as they are the same as the previous editions and track list, so it seems pretty pointless to me...

You have to remember though they had 5 months worth of pre-orders which had them charting for months on Amazons best sellers chart. Spiceworld was top 10 on the cd and vinyl chart on Amazon after the social media first posted about them. Spiceworld was also up to number 30 something release night.

 

The vinyls are also cheaper on a lot of other stores like sound of vinyl and udiscover and the spice girls social media had been linking to sound of vinyl.

 

I got my copies from HMV in store yesterday.

 

So their midweek position will be from 3 days of sales this chart week and 5 months of pre-orders, like Jay who ordered his in November so wont have any bearing on its Amazon bestsellers placing now.

 

It has evidently done well on Amazon (spiceworld) as it is actually sold out. It will be at least another week till they get more stock in.

I hope it does well I’m not buying either, trying to move away from repeat buying things and I already have an original copy of Spiceworld on vinyl with no vinyl player so it’s a bit pointless. I’ll buy forever if that comes out and the GH if they do it in the proper cover.

I am on the same boat. Will definitely buy Forever and if they ever do a proper re-release of the GH. Until then..

I don’t have much hope that they’ll ever issue Greatest Hits in the original cover, unfortunately! I feel like now would have been the moment to do that if they ever were going to, hmm.

 

They redesigned most aspects of the GH for vinyl. All they took from the original CD, to incorporate in the Vinyl design, is the red background 2007 picture & the collage. They disregarded the lyrics/individual girls 2007 pics/thank yous & the back cover.

 

I hope the preorders were healthy enough that we’ll be pleasantly surprised by the midweeks, but it seems like the daily sales are going to be low, so they could fall harshly with every mids update. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that both will chart at the very least.

Silly question but will the 5 months of pre orders for ‘Spiceworld’ have a bearing on this week charts, regardless of when they were ordered prior to the release date and regardless of when they will be delivered to people’s homes. If that makes sense? Would be great if it charted again.

What cd purchases? It's not in print on CD as far as I know... :lol:

 

Also, just found this on Amazon - for only £145.58 you too can own Spiceworld on CD. Ridiculous, isn't it time for a re-print?

Aah, right. I was confused because it said "LP", which is usually only used for vinyl releases where I live.

 

Yesterday I bought one of the Spiceworld CDs sold by Amazon as being 'new'. Unfortunately it's not new after all! It's definitely a second hand copy from 1997.

 

To be fair it's in a surprisingly good condition. The cover is very white looking (my old copy has kind of faded over the years) and the disc has no marks on it. However there is a couple of telltale signs that makes it clear it's not a brand new copy - the inlay of the booklet is a little worn looking in a couple of areas. It's the version with the incorrect lyrics and the unedited/shorter dress length Victoria picture. It even has the 1997 merch order sheet lol, another indication that it's an original copy rather than a repress.

 

Furthermore, the mids is showing 0 sales on CD for Spiceworld, oop, so it appears that these Amazon 'new' copies don't count as brand new sales.

 

I never knew that Amazon sold refurbished CDs as brand new stock anyway, which seems a bit naughty/misleading. I'm not disappointed though, because I didn't previously own this version of the Spiceworld CD. The copy I've had since 1997 has corrected lyrics and the edited/lengthened dress Victoria picture.
