Evening all, apologies it's late but here comes my personal top 20 singles for this week. Coldplay returned to the top of our charts last week, but can they hang on for a second week or will new singles from Dua Lipa and Mark Ronson end their time at the top? Here's where we find out first...

CHART COMMENTARY

We have our third new number one in as many weeks today, and it's the return of one of 2017's biggest success stories. Dua Lipa notched up five top 10 hits including two number ones - 'New Rules' and 'One Kiss' with Calvin Harris - from her debut album. She's been quiet for most of this year however, locked away in the studio working on her second album.

That's planned for a release early next year, but the first single from it 'Don't Start Now' arrives in style after launching online last week. Accompanied by some showstopping performances at the MTV EMAs and Graham Norton, it makes a commanding debut at the top of our chart to give her her third number one single. She's also the first solo female to occupy our top slot since Mabel spent two weeks at the top in June with 'Mad Love'.

If Mark Ronson was hoping to become the first artist this year to secure his third chart topper in a row, then for now these hopes appear to be dashed. 'Don't Leave Me Lonely' is a collaboration with US singer-songwriter Yebba and is the fourth single from his 'Late Night Feelings' album, but has to be content with a #3 debut this week.

However, the title track from that album with Lykke Li still remains our biggest single of 2019 to date - a six week chart topper back in May if you recall. With only seven chart weeks of the year now left, it's a big ask for anyone to overtake it at this stage, but it has been done before - 2004 was the last year in fact when Band Aid 20's 'Do They Know It's Christmas' came from behind in December to deprive Katie Melua of top honours for the year.

Just two more songs are left now from McFly's seemingly unending week by week campaign of releasing their 'Lost Songs' from 2013. 'Touch the Rain' has incidentally now moved into fourth place for 2019 to date, and is still inside the top 10 this week at #9, whilst their latest rocking lost release (try saying that whilst sober) 'Josephine' is new at this week's #6, whilst last week's new arrival 'Those Were The Days' has collapsed eleven places to #14.

There's also a brand new entry at #7 this week, for new three piece boyband with guitars The Wonderland. Consisting of Oakley, Nate and Harry, they are, like S Club 7 before them, the young stars of Almost Never, a new sitcom airing on CBBC playing a fictionalised version of themselves as a struggling pop band. The show has just returned for a second series following a successful first series at the start of the year, and this track 'Only One' is its theme tune that opens and closes each episode. Time will tell if they follow the path of their predecessors, but at the least it's given them a respectable top 10 entry for their first ever single.

One band who it would appear are desperately in need of another top 10 hit - or a hit of a bigger kind then they've had of late, certainly - are Bastille. Now six years removed from their debut, their last properly big hit of any description was as guest vocalist on Craig David's chart topping 'I Know You' single at the beginning of 2018. Since then a couple more singles from them have been released, 'Quarter Past Midnight' which got as high as #6 in May 2018, and 'Joy' which made #12 in May this year, and both of which fell off our charts in short order. Almost six months after 'Doom Days', the album that housed both of these singles was released, the third single, 'Another Place' has been remixed with a guest vocal from Alessia Cara but going on it's #13 entry this week you can hardly see things improving.

Finally this week, after a two week absence, Rick Astley's eight week old 'Every One Of Us' rebounds nine places into the top 20 at #18, following the release and subsequent promo rounds for his new hits package 'The Best Of Me'. The single, you will remember, entered and peaked at #7 back in September.
