The week it was #3 it was kept off by Avicii 'SOS' at #1 and Two Steps From Hell 'Emerald Princess' at #2. 'SOS' is still to come anyhow so that was definitely the right #1. The other track was EOY #67. I have to agree with 'Back & Forth', if it was released at a better time it would easily have been year-end top 20, possibly even top 10, but as it is it gets to be on two EOY top 100s.

'All I Am' however was the only instant #1, beating fierce competition from other new releases by Calvin Harris and Disclosure, and it returned to #1 following the album release. It sees Jess go back to her roots with a great lite house beat, helped by the 'Finally' sample which works really well here. The easy comparison to make is with 'Hold My Hand', but contrary to popular opinion I consider this to be just as good if not better. It's a very uplifting and danceable song with a great vocal which is just what the charts need a bit more of. The lyrics are simple but effective, the beat is groovy, Jess is an outstanding vocalist, it ticks all the boxes.Well at least this finally gets its deserved EOY top 40 place, although it actually racked up more 'chart sales' in the 2018 tracking year, the competition was just bigger then. With half the song being taken up by the vocal section (it's a rather unique vocal for the genre too) it's another track here where you really have to wait for the drop, but it is worth it, with a proper thumping kick and high energy. It was also one of two uplifting trance BJSC entries for me in 2019 too, as a top example of its style, but sadly despite qualifying it underperformed in the final. However it wasn't a garage track and instead we got something even better with this beautiful downtempo track which is a perfect fit for Freya Ridings' voice. The piano and strings are mixed in very well alongside the atmospheric production backed by lovely lyrics and vocals from Freya. It is also helped up the chart by the Cedric Gervais remix which works as a more typical dance track although it is the original I prefer. XTC did very well for the type of song it was I think, it must have helped pave the way for Pump It Up to be such a smash too with both being tech house (although I wish it was XTC that was the big chart hit over PIU). In my chart however it was one of the unluckiest #2s of the year as it was released in the same week as Jess Glynne's 'All I Am' (which does appear higher in the countdown). It's a very smooth dance track, which plods along in the best possible way, and seems to be Calvin's style at the moment; and perfect as an end of summer track to follow the summer anthem that was 'One Kiss' (we'll get to that a lot later on). Calvin as my second favourite act of all time only seems to cement that position with every big single he does and I trust that he'll make Rag'n'Bone Man sound good on his next single that should be out a week from now (excitement!). It still sounded really great for me in the first quarter of 2019. You'd have to be very lucky to hear any trance music played in the club unless it's a specific trance DJ set sadly.
