Up & Down is my favourite of yours from the last few sections, another fab discovery from BJSC this year & I'm gutted it didn't win!

Giving Close to the Sun a listen now, very nice tropical beats! I'd happily listen to this again.

It was a shame I couldn't announce it as the winner when it was my fave of the contest, although I liked the winner as well.

Glad you enjoy CTTS too. I do enjoy the tropical feel of the production.

Thermo's hot hits | EOY 2019 | #146-150

#150. Jax Jones and Years & Years ~ Play
Date entered: 30/11/2018
Chart sales: 359,400 (405,500 total)
Chart run: 60-100-77-96-x-44-37-45-57-85-74-79-93-x [11 weeks (12 total)]

Jax Jones going in a garage house direction for this wasn't something I expected or wanted, and it is amongst the weaker half of his singles, but it is still a very enjoyable listen.

#149. Madeon ~ All My Friends
Date entered: 07/06/2019
Chart sales: 362,500
Chart run: 32-36-34-36-38-39-39-39-49-56-78-x [11 weeks]

Madeon was someone I had been anticipating a comeback from for a while, and when he finally did with this song I was initially a little underwhelmed. Gone are the big synths and EDM drops and he instead went in a more pop direction, but this is top quality dancepop.

#148. Avicii ~ Lonely Together (feat. Rita Ora) [#33, 2017 / #01, 2018]
Date entered: 11/08/2017
Chart sales: 363,700 (3,150,600 total)
Chart run: 3-3-3-2-2-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-2-2-1-1-1-3-6-17-1-1-1-2-4-5-10-9-9-12-18-14-14-12-16-14-2-2-4-8-9-9-10-11-20-23-35-35-58-74-90-x-67-74-99-x-24-28-61-67-62-67-x [6 weeks (60 total)]

Very impressively this manages a third year in my EOY chart, and very much deserved too - it'll be making a very high appearance in my forthcoming EOD chart. This was #1 last year so an essay quote is incoming...

Is it too early to call this a modern-day musical masterpiece? Maybe, but it's already got the record for most weeks spent in my top 3 and the joint-record for most at #1 (12 so far). It's also a very strong contender for my EOY #1 for 2018 (I'm calling it now), everything about it is just brilliant. Perhaps surprisingly it debuted only at #3, behind two other Avicii tracks, but it just kept growing and now it's definitely my favourite of the EP. It once again demonstrates Avicii's ability to remain relevant without losing his touch, and rightfully became his biggest UK hit in years. We can't ignore Rita though, as her pitchy vocals add a lot to this track too and I'd say this song was responsible for reigniting my interest in her too, after the disappointing 'Your Song'. Avicii giving us the huge comeback I had been waiting for all year (and all of 2016 too) was my favourite musical moment of 2017 though, and this is up there with his best.

So for the third, and potentially last time, it is Avicii who has this year's EOY #1 with 'Lonely Together', very impressive considering it lost its first 15 weeks to the 2017 EOY (where it charted at #33), though as you see above I did predict it to make the EOY #1 here as I knew it would stick around for a good while. More impressively, it isn't close - he beats Calvin by nearly 250k chart sales. If the chart tracking year was the same as the calendar year then it would've been a lot closer (and 'One Kiss' may have even taken the #1, I haven't actually calculated it), but it feels more appropriate to give the #1 to this song. Firstly, as it is one of a select few to be certified 4x platinum, which OK is still a long way from. It also broke all sorts of records in the chart; its 13 weeks at #1 are unmatched by any other song in Thermo's hot hits history. It also holds the record for most weeks spent in the top 3 (24), top 5 (27), top 10 (35), top 20 (45) and top 40 (50 - including 2 in 2019 and left off from the chart run posted above), though it is still far from the Jax Jones record of overall chart weeks (70) (it fell off rather quickly once leaving the top 40 as I wanted a bit of a break from the song, though it has since re-entered from the EOY effect and is currently spending its 58th week in the chart).

Sadly however, as you know, Avicii passed away in April, leaving this as the last hit single he had in his lifetime. Avicii's impact in Thermo's hot hits was completely unmatched by any other artist, and it was a devastating loss for music (particularly in the dance music community). It's amazing how much he produced in the span of the ten years he was active for though, and 'Lonely Together' joins the likes of 'Levels', 'Wake Me Up' and 'I Could Be The One' as all-time faves for me. I'm particularly glad that I went to one of his shows - it was in 2014 in promotion of his debut album True, and it's easy to see how much impact he had in the dance music scene.

'Lonely Together' may be one of his more pop-oriented songs (possibly influenced by Benny Blanco, who was on co-production) but it is nonetheless brilliant and shows his versatility (alongside the rest of the EP it was featured on), and in my opinion is far from the lazy Spotify dance sound, it still sounds like an Avicii production. It's the perfect example of how to do a dance-pop song in the current era of music, with a great melody, drop, vocal and production. Of course, credit also has to be given to Rita, as I said last year her vocal fits in very well with the song - particularly with the vocal pitching and her not going all-out with power vocals, as it better fits the tone of the song - I don't think it'd have worked quite as well with one of Avicii's regular vocal collaborators (and it's also worth noting how well she was able to perform the song live following the tragic news).

As for Avicii, we still await any posthumously released material (nothing was officially released in 2018 - all his 2018 hits in the chart history were old and/or unofficial material) but I'd be happy to wait as long as it takes to get the songs as finished and polished as he'd want them to be. For now, whether he will make a few more appearances in the 2019 EOY remains to be seen.

RIP Tim. â—¢ â—¤

#147. CloudNone and Laura Brehm ~ Changed
Date entered: 01/11/2019
Chart sales: 365,000
Chart run: 1-1-1-1-1-… [5 weeks]

Amazingly with only 5 weeks of release time this ends up in the top 150, although all its time so far has been spent firmly at #1 where it remains for a 7th week as of today, so expect this a LOT higher up next year's chart. It was also my last BJSC entry of the year and one that finished in 10th. It's a beautiful song which was one of the most instant love tracks of the year. Laura's vocal is amazing and so emotional, and it's helped a lot by the atmospheric production with its piano and strings which I always love in a song. The beat is very inspired too sounding like none of my other #1s of the year, I believe it comes under the genre of 'future garage' but that was just from some googling. A truly outstanding song and one I definitely recommend.

#146. Calvin Harris and Dua Lipa ~ One Kiss [#02, 2018]
Date entered: 30/03/2018
Chart sales: 365,300 (1,891,800 total)
Chart run: 1-1-4-1-1-2-3-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-5-5-4-7-8-8-13-18-23-26-38-54-72-62-65-55-58-57-91-95-x-30-41-64-65-58-61-x [8 weeks (40 total)]

And coincidentally my EOY #2 from last year also happens to make it into this section, here's what I had to say last year...

After a lowkey start to the year with the minor hits 'The Weekend' and 'Nuh Ready Nuh Ready', Calvin proved all his doubters wrong and casually dropped the biggest song of the year (in the UK) with 'One Kiss'. It also gave him his biggest ever hit in Thermo's hot hits, not an easy feat considering the numerous hits and 'million sellers' he's had before, and it lands at #2 in the EOY; and is easily my favourite song that was released in 2018 (the rest of the top five all had 2017 releases, and in fact the only other song in the top 10 that was released in 2018 was 'Feel My Needs' - that's just the way my chart works lol).

I was so excited to see that one of the better singers of the moment Dua Lipa was to feature on Calvin's next single as they seemed like a perfect fit for each other particularly after the great dance-pop smash 'New Rules', and the song couldn't have premiered at a better time - it was during my family skiing holiday and it will thus be a lovely reminder of that time - and of course I loved it so much that it went straight in at #1, spending four weeks there (interrupted by 'Levels' in week three) - Jess Glynne then kicked it off for a week before Disclosure's comeback which held the song at #2 for a long while.

The song felt to refreshing in the chart anyhow, and it was great to see Calvin Harris switch his style up again (though I did love his last era) because I love the housey groove this has and Dua is perfect for this song too. The song doesn't have a big meaty drop but it doesn't need to, it's just a vibe and one that particularly worked for the hot summer we had, but the song sounds amazing anytime clearly, it's still in my chart this week too. I really hope we get a whole album of these types of subtle bops because I'm really loving his output at the moment (his latest 'Giant' is my current #1 and could contend in the next EOY), and I'd love to give him an EOY #1 sometime but it's not even close and there was only one song that was ever really in contention this year...

Thermo's hot hits | EOY 2019 | #141-145

#145. Omnia ~ Guide You Home (feat. Robin Vane)
Date entered: 21/12/2018
Chart sales: 366,700
Chart run: 77-84-36-32-29-31-41-46-54-64-70-82-95-93-94-x [15 weeks]

Omnia has gained a bit of prominence in my chart from his Futurecode project with Ben Gold but has two songs of his own here too. This one's more of a dancepop effort but still great.

#144. Martin Garrix and Matisse & Sadko ~ Mistaken (feat. Alex Aris)
Date entered: 05/04/2019
Chart sales: 367,400
Chart run: 24-31-34-30-30-32-41-43-56-75-x [10 weeks]

Proof if ever needed that Martin Garrix is at his best when he's doing progressive house bangers like these, this also having the assistance of Mattise & Sadko. It's got a great anthemic drop and I also enjoy the vocal from Alex Aris who I only recently found out is the same guy who sang for Taped Rai/Max Elto.

#143. Tiësto and Mabel ~ God Is A Dancer
Date entered: 27/09/2019
Chart sales: 367,900
Chart run: 7-10-11-13-12-27-29-32-30-30-… [10 weeks]

It's been another great year for Tiësto with him releasing two great pop tracks. This one was my fave but also is more recent so finishes below 'Ritual'. It's full of hooks which I love and Mabel does a great performance on it.

#142. Avicii ~ Ain't A Thing (feat. Bonn)
Date entered: 14/06/2019
Chart sales: 368,800
Chart run: 10-12-15-19-24-26-26-46-58-96-x [10 weeks]

And we finally reach the first track from 'Tim' to fall in this rundown. This scraped in the top 10... behind 9 other Avicii tracks, but overall it just about places as the weakest track of the album. It's still very good though.

#141. 4 Strings and Susanne Teutenberg ~ A Brand New Day
Date entered: 12/04/2019
Chart sales: 369,800
Chart run: 42-17-15-15-18-32-40-51-52-74-87-91-x [12 weeks]

4 Strings reunited with their original vocalist Susanne Teutenberg this year (she sang uncredited on their biggest hits in the 00s) which was great to hear, it became their first top 20 hit here in a few years too. Her positive lyrics and lush vocal is a perfect match for this kind of progressive trance.

#140. Alan Walker ~ Darkside (feat. Au/Ra and Tomine Harket [#68, 2018]
Date entered: 03/08/2018
Chart sales: 371,300 (975,300 total)
Chart run: 24-15-14-23-21-17-25-26-31-31-27-23-19-13-15-16-25-23-58-78-52-59-15-21-23-49-69-93-x [10 weeks (28 total)]

Following the underwhelming singles 'Tired' and 'All Falls Down', and the good but not brilliant 'The Spectre', I really was starting to think Alan Walker had lost it. Well I was so wrong as his album is really good (all the other tracks are better than AFD (which did eventually chart too)), and he released one of the standouts in 'Darkside' in the summer, which then re-peaked following 'Diamond Heart's release. Au/Ra and Tomine sing beautifully which really adds to the emotional impact and Alan is on top form with the production. He's now one of my faves again and largely thanks to this.

#139. Above & Beyond and Spencer Brown ~ Long Way From Home (feat. RBBTS)
Date entered: 04/01/2019
Chart sales: 371,600
Chart run: 51-53-46-48-50-48-53-60-86-97-x-93-x [11 weeks]

More of a subtle progressive track than usual for Above & Beyond thanks to Spencer Brown's influence.

#138. Avicii ~ Never Leave Me (feat. Joe Janiak)
Date entered: 14/06/2019
Chart sales: 372,100
Chart run: 9-11-11-16-20-24-24-42-57-95-x [10 weeks]

Another Avicii track - this one was apparently the last one he wrote before his death which makes it very bittersweet for a song about a lasting relationship. :(

#137. Avicii ~ Freak (feat. Bonn)
Date entered: 14/06/2019
Chart sales: 373,000
Chart run: 12-16-16-17-25-27-27-59-70-x [9 weeks]

Avicii again - this one notable for interpolating a few songs and its whistle hook (which is also a sample).

#136. Tobtok and Adam Griffin ~ The Stand Off (feat. Hayley May)
Date entered: 02/08/2019
Chart sales: 374,800
Chart run: 56-47-43-53-60-73-87-x-66-81-78-71-72-98-x [13 weeks]

Simply a great house track. A version with additional vocals was also made, but I prefer the original. It has a riff that is reminiscent of 'Just Can't Get Enough', and it must have reminded them of it too because they just released their take on that song... which isn't that great.

#135. Markus Schulz ~ We Are The Light (feat. Nikki Flores)
Date entered: 26/10/2018
Chart sales: 374,900 (592,200 total)
Chart run: 46-35-38-27-27-30-60-65-88-95-56-55-49-34-42-47-52-69-92-x [13 weeks (19 total)]

Markus Schulz occasionally produces a great vocal trance anthem and here's one of his best so far. It takes a while to kick in but it pays off.

#134. Alexander Popov ~ Legacy (feat. Julia Violin)
Date entered: 02/08/2019
Chart sales: 377,900
Chart run: 32-33-45-57-75-81-89-97-94-65-68-69-69-x [13 weeks]

Sent into Worldvision by me to represent Russia, this combines Julia's violin with big trance production. It's very reminiscent of Armin van Buuren's 'Intense' but we could definitely do with more songs like this.

#133. Kristian Nairn and Ferry Corsten ~ Galaxia
Date entered: 09/08/2019
Chart sales: 381,100
Chart run: 65-66-77-82-62-69-86-74-21-21-29-41-69-x [13 weeks]

Trance legend Ferry Corsten had one of his older tracks (that I'd never heard of) remade alongside Kristian Nairn (who I'd never heard of) to make a great progressive track.

#132. Tobtok, AKA George and Oliver Nelson ~ Something 'Bout The Music
Date entered: 31/05/2019
Chart sales: 382,600
Chart run: 78-79-73-67-61-60-74-100-100-84-68-61-82-x [13 weeks]

Tobtok again this time providing a disco house tune, helped by Oliver Nelson as well - they both also appeared together on a BJSC top 10 hit but this track is better.

#131. Orjan Nilsen ~ Love Rush In
Date entered: 04/01/2019
Chart sales: 383,200
Chart run: 92-60-31-32-32-35-39-50-59-78-x [10 weeks]

Trance producer Orjan Nilsen with one of his more pop friendly tracks but also one of his best tracks yet.

All My Friends was a fab comeback for Madeon, as you say no big EDM drop but for a catchy song like this I'm not sure whether it needs it.

Giving The Stand Off a listen now, quite a good dance track that I certainly wish I'd heard earlier!

#130. Avicii ~ Excuse Me Mr. Sir (feat. Vargas & Lagola)
Date entered: 14/06/2019
Chart sales: 384,600
Chart run: 6-6-7-9-12-16-16-34-55-83-x [10 weeks]

Quite a different track for Avicii with it being influenced by indie hip hop, but he can make anything work well and he's always been very versatile as a dance producer.

#129. Aly & Fila ~ It's All About The Melody
Date entered: 01/03/2019
Chart sales: 384,600
Chart run: 48-44-44-20-16-18-25-32-52-63-93-x [11 weeks]

Uplifting trance duo Aly & Fila put out a new album just recently, with its title track being released earlier in the year. As the title suggests, it's got a great melody.

#128. Russ ~ Gun Lean
Date entered: 04/01/2019
Chart sales: 384,700
Chart run: 11-20-32-12-16-21-28-46-66-x [9 weeks]

Russ again, with his first hit which remains in its original version in this rundown. I love the dark production and big bass drops plus Russ' constant quick flow. More interesting lyrics than 'Keisha & Becky' too, plus it coming out first which also puts it just ahead here.

#127. Sam Feldt ~ Post Malone (feat. Rani)
Date entered: 05/07/2019
Chart sales: 386,900
Chart run: 93-95-x-93-41-33-44-58-68-90-60-71-97-x [12 weeks]

A fun generic bop about partying which reminds me of simpler times a few years ago when seemingly half the chart was like this. We stan Sam Feldt finally getting a 2nd UK hit too!

#126. Rompasso ~ Ignis
Date entered: 20/09/2019
Chart sales: 388,600
Chart run: 10-12-17-17-25-26-50-67-92-98-x [10 weeks]

A great BJSC discovery (and winner) from Russian DJ Rompasso with an inspired dance track.

This song doesn't particularly need one, it works very well as it is. I quite like Madeon's new sound anyway, checked out his album recently which was rather good.

Yeah it's a very energetic dance track and Hayley May does a great vocal as ever (she was also the uncredited singer in Joel Corry 'Sorry' you may know, although that won't be appearing in this rundown)

#125. Weiss ~ Feel My Needs [#8, 2018]
Date entered: 11/05/2018
Chart sales: 389,800 (1,704,800 total)
Chart run: 42-24-17-13-14-19-16-14-20-16-23-12-13-14-13-8-9-9-5-4-2-2-4-6-5-8-11-14-23-20-40-49-70-77-31-33-48-56-66-62-x [10 weeks (40 total)]

Following 2017's sleeper hit 'You're Sunshine', English DJ Weiss came back with a bigger and better tune in 2018 with 'Feel My Needs', one of Radio 1's favourite dance tracks of the year and also one of mine as it lands comfortably in the top 10 here despite having an incomplete chart run (Weiss is currently spending his 38th week in the chart, and the rest of the EOY top 10 spent over 30 weeks in the chart). Sometimes all a house song really needs is a catchy piano riff and a short vocal phrase because that's what makes this one so good (the attempt to give it additional vocals didn't work too well for me). I also love the short synthy breakdown in the middle but it's the main hook that really sells it. Whilst I was waiting ages for a new MK song to drop this really did well at filling in his place and becoming a big summer (and autumn) anthem, and this is honestly better than 'Back & Forth' too but '17' is still yet to appear.
#124. Ashley Wallbridge ~ Diamonds (feat. Clara Yates)
Date entered: 16/08/2019
Chart sales: 390,100
Chart run: 8-8-11-14-14-20-32-36-34-41-47-71-96-x [13 weeks]

Ashley Wallbridge will be making quite a few more appearances thanks to his collab project with Gareth Emery, but this track released following their album proves himself to be very good by himself too.

#123. Gorgon City and MK ~ There For You
Date entered: 23/08/2019
Chart sales: 390,200
Chart run: 10-5-8-13-23-37-60-86-87-100-x-100-x [11 weeks]

A banging house tune which was the best effort of 2019 by both acts, although MK still has 'Back & Forth' from last year in the running. It's exactly what you'd expect from a collab by these two, and wasn't quite as great as I had hoped but still a solid tune.

#122. Sam Smith and Normani ~ Dancing With A Stranger
Date entered: 18/01/2019
Chart sales: 392,200
Chart run: 22-19-21-24-29-37-40-34-39-40-56-80-100-x [13 weeks]

Sam Smith making an actually interesting song that wasn't a dance producer collab was one of the big surprises of the year, and got Sam a fairly long running hit in my chart. The laidback beat and nu disco elements in the production really compliment the song's theme and Normani puts in one of her best performances too. If this is the direction Sam's going in musically then it's a very welcome one. 'How Do You Sleep' I wasn't as keen on (didn't make my chart) but I'll still take it any day over the likes of 'Too Good At Goodbyes'. 'Promises' with Calvin Harris is however still to come.

#121. Aly & Fila and Deirdre McLaughlin ~ Gravity
Date entered: 12/04/2019
Chart sales: 397,500
Chart run: 24-22-23-28-34-50-57-63-69-70-77-90-x [12 weeks]

Aly & Fila's top track of the year, helped by a lovely vocal alongside all their usual production quirks.

Ransom is an undeniably fun track. Really catchy but I am surprised by just how big it got.

God Is A Dancer is a big tune too. Mabel really becomes a star on that track.

One More Sleep & One Kiss are my favourites of your hold-overs.

Excuse Me Mr Sir was one of my favourites from the album, it didn't stand out massively on first listen but really held its ground as the months went on.

Great to see Sam Feldt get a second hit, as you say a really fun dance track which I wish there was more of in the charts!

Fantastic to see Rompasso making an impact here  you giving my winner an 18 in its contest and me doing the same with yours this year too *.*

A great comeback single from Stormzy bringing him right to the top of the UK chart and giving him a third top 20 hit in my chart. Fvck the government and fvck Boris!

#119. Riot ~ Overkill
Date entered: 19/07/2019
Chart sales: 398,100
Chart run: 2-2-2-7-12-15-23-29-58-63-89-x-69-x [12 weeks]

One of my BJSC entries this year although it failed to qualify. A rare case of a dance song with metal influences and one that actually sounds great, it's a real headbanger of a tune. Unfortunately for the track it was up against one of this year's EOY #1 contenders 'Heaven' although it fell off quickly anyway. Now don't forget to vote for it in BJSC TBO!!

#118. Alex Metric and Ten Ven ~ What U Need
Date entered: 11/01/2019
Chart sales: 398,900
Chart run: 84-56-82-98-73-77-86-x-55-82-73-68-68-66-83-95-x [15 weeks]

Now onto the year's highest track that unfortunately missed the weekly top 50, a great house tune with a catchy hook about loooooooooove.

Onto Rompasso's 2nd and highest track, a remix for Russian rapper Eldzhey although it originally caught my attention through a featured Era Istrefi. It has more of a Lithuania HQ sound to it than 'Ignis' if you're into that sort of thing.

#116. Jess Glynne and Jax Jones ~ One Touch
Date entered: 31/05/2019
Chart sales: 404,500
Chart run: 5-5-16-14-20-26-34-44-44-50-60-71-89-x [13 weeks]

The Queen of Music herself didn't wait long after her album to release a brand new track, this one in collaboration with Jax Jones. However considering the two names involved this really should've been EOY #16 material but here it is. Quite standard for them both but nonetheless a solid tune. Both still have multiple tracks left to come anyhow.

Thermo's hot hits | EOY 2019 | #111-115

#115. Avicii ~ Heart Upon My Sleeve (feat. Imagine Dragons)
Date entered: 23/09/2013
Chart sales: 405,000 [542,800 total]
Chart run: 45-x-7-7-10-11-10-13-13-31-54-84-x [10 weeks (11 total)]

Originally an instrumental album track from 'True' (and one of my least faves of that album at the time of its release with it only making #45), the Imagine Dragons vocal edit was chosen for 'Tim' (although they had recorded most of it years ago, with a little extra section recorded specifically for this album). This version certainly beats the original in my view with the vocal making it sound complete. Dan's voice has been a bit more miss than hit for me in recent times but he does a very good job on this thankfully. The string heavy bit of the production remains the highlight of this track however.

#114. NSG ~ Options (feat. Tion Wayne)
Date entered: 11/01/2019
Chart sales: 406,200
Chart run: 75-55-38-44-45-43-52-29-32-46-62-74-75-99-94-x [15 weeks]

Another one of the big UK rap hits of the year and from two acts who hadn't seen my chart prior to 2019. I enjoy all the rappers on this track and Jae5 also does a great job on the production. So far however NSG haven't made any other tracks I've enjoyed so it looks like this is a big one off.

#113. Keanu Silva ~ King Of My Castle (Don Diablo Edit)
Date entered: 25/01/2019
Chart sales: 406,500
Chart run: 81-53-59-71-72-82-84-83-60-66-73-87-48-61-65-77-100-x [17 weeks]

And now we reach the highest song to have missed my weekly top 40, a great future house reworking of 'King Of My Castle' with even the instrumental riff kept in although modernised for 2019.

#112. Becky Hill and Weiss ~ I Could Get Used To This
Date entered: 05/04/2019
Chart sales: 408,200
Chart run: 43-55-49-36-38-40-57-83-84-98-x-76-91-70-72-x [14 weeks]

Becky Hill has had a great 2019, and particularly on this track her vocal ability really shows, alongside its mid-tempo piano dance backing from Weiss.

#111. M-22 ~ White Lies (feat. A*M*E)
Date entered: 01/02/2019
Chart sales: 410,800
Chart run: 40-42-48-38-47-50-48-52-72-86-x-76-77-85-95-x [14 weeks]

Heavily sampling Inner City's 'Good Life' was always going to make for a great dance tune, and 2 songs in this rundown have done it - this being the first. Was also nice to hear A*M*E again on a dance track as 'Need U (100%)' is now over 5 years old.

Ransom is an undeniably fun track. Really catchy but I am surprised by just how big it got.

God Is A Dancer is a big tune too. Mabel really becomes a star on that track.

One More Sleep & One Kiss are my favourites of your hold-overs.

It definitely sounded like a hit to my ears although by that time it was quickly climbing charts.

Mabel definitely puts in a good performance on it.

OMS could even make it in again in 2020 as it's once again high in my chart for Christmas.

Excuse Me Mr Sir was one of my favourites from the album, it didn't stand out massively on first listen but really held its ground as the months went on.

Great to see Sam Feldt get a second hit, as you say a really fun dance track which I wish there was more of in the charts!

I wouldn't put it in my top faves, I'd say its position here is about right, although it's very good like the rest of the album.

Yes some more dance even if it's dancepop charting in 2020 would be nice.

Fantastic to see Rompasso making an impact here  you giving my winner an 18 in its contest and me doing the same with yours this year too *.*
Great to see that happen this year.

Two Steps From Hell are still to come in the Hottest 100 too.

thanks guys.

#110. Armin van Buuren and Luke Bond ~ Revolution (feat. Karra)
Date entered: 14/06/2019
Chart sales: 411,400
Chart run: 95-74-88-89-x-59-49-56-77-66-90-86-x-30-50-x [13 weeks]

A thumping big room trance banger that seems very fit for a revolution.

#109. Above & Beyond ~ Flying By Candlelight (Club Mix) (feat. Marty Longstaff)
Date entered: 25/01/2019
Chart sales: 411,500
Chart run: 23-22-18-14-15-23-22-21-24-36-39-47-64-x [13 weeks]

Above & Beyond started the year off well, with this being their highest track in the rundown too. Released as part of the "companion EP" to last year's album, so basically a throwaway, but it holds up to many of the album's tracks.

#108. TheFatRat and Phaera ~ Sunlight
Date entered: 14/06/2019
Chart sales: 419,600
Chart run: 29-33-26-24-19-19-19-17-26-36-48-53-68-x [13 weeks]

TheFatRat's #1 may have already been but this track is his biggest showing for the year. It's mostly instrumental and the type of glitch hop that he is best known for. A very happy sounding track too and it even has a last few seconds key change.

#107. Regard ~ Ride It
Date entered: 30/08/2019
Chart sales: 422,400
Chart run: 72-40-30-36-46-48-38-45-54-79-85-83-66-58-x [14 weeks]

Now for the token track you've heard of the section. It's got a great groove to it and Regard deserves the credit for turning such a dull Jay Sean song into something enjoyable. I didn't enjoy it as much as you may expect considering it being one of the biggest dance songs of the year, but I do like the vibe the song's going for.

#106. Ferry Corsten presents Gouryella ~ Surga
Date entered: 10/05/2019
Chart sales: 423,900
Chart run: 23-38-52-52-66-69-86-x-59-67-78-78-57-50-70-x [14 weeks]

Ferry brought back his Gouryella project again this year for another classic sounding trance track. I would very much welcome more of this from him and I recommend to anyone who likes a trance instrumental.

#105. Darude ~ Timeless (feat. JVMIE)
Date entered: 09/11/2018
Chart sales: 425,000 [570,200 total]
Chart run: 53-39-33-37-74-67-94-x-63-59-51-35-29-33-32-33-39-49-55-53-59-70-91-93-x [19 weeks (23 total)]

Darude may have been in Eurovision but for me it was only half as good as this track released towards the end of last year, a big trance epic and one that proves himself as a serious trance producer.

#104. Tiësto, Jonas Blue and Rita Ora ~ Ritual
Date entered: 07/06/2019
Chart sales: 428,500
Chart run: 11-22-21-27-36-50-53-53-71-100-90-x-73-x [12 weeks]

Tiësto's club friendly tracks of the year have been a bit miss for me but I was sold when he went back down the dancepop route, this time in collaboration with Jonas Blue who has otherwise had a bit of an off year (although he still has a 2018 leftover to feature in the Hottest 100). Rita puts in a solid performance as usual too, she always works on a dance track.

#103. Axwell ~ Nobody Else
Date entered: 08/02/2019
Chart sales: 437,000
Chart run: 39-25-20-21-24-22-25-29-38-54-79-86-x [12 weeks]

While we STILL wait for actual new Swedish House Mafia material (it's clearly never coming at this rate) Axwell dropped this on us at the start of the year showcasing his new sound. It's definitely one of his best solo efforts yet, we love a big house banger.

#102. David Guetta ~ Stay (Don't Go Away) (feat. Raye)
Date entered: 17/05/2019
Chart sales: 440,300
Chart run: 17-12-12-10-21-24-34-44-51-52-52-69-82-x [13 weeks]

David Guetta finally ditched future bass for good this year going back to his house roots with this track, with clear 90s influences. Sadly this kind of thing isn't really in at the moment so it stalled at #41 officially but oh well, still a tune. It's also David's highest showing for the year.

#101. Katy Perry ~ Never Really Over
Date entered: 07/06/2019
Chart sales: 441,300
Chart run: 9-20-19-19-20-28-28-28-47-53-77-x [11 weeks]

One of the year's pleasant surprises as after a fair few missteps from her she only came back with one of the best songs in her career and one of the year's best pop songs. Sadly it seems like a real one-off as her two follow-ups made very little impact for me, but if it's the last big hit of her career at least she went out on a high. One of her best vocal performances here and with both a brilliant prechorus and hook, not many pop songs manage that these days.

Thermo's hot hits | EOY 2019 | HOTTEST 100 TEASERS

It's that time of the year now where we've got up to the Hottest 100 reveal, the 100 songs that defined the year in Thermo's hot hits. Before then let's take a little look at what we'll be seeing.

Multiple appearances
9x - Avicii, Gareth Emery
7x - Ashley Wallbridge
5x - Armin van Buuren
4x - Calvin Harris, Kygo
3x - Arty, CamelPhat, Futurecode*
2x - Alan Walker, Becky Hill, Ben Gold, Denis Kenzo, Don Diablo, EDX, Gryffin, Jax Jones, Jess Glynne, K-391, Mark Ronson, Nora En Pure, Richard Durand, Sigala, Super8 & Tab, Vargas & Lagola

* including appearances in Futurecode, Ben Gold has 5 entries and Omnia has 4

Last year Avicii had the joint-most appearances with 4 (alongside Above & Beyond) - this year that total increases to 9. However it has also been a big year for Gareth Emery, who also has 9 appearances - 7 of those alongside Ashley Wallbridge.

Number of UK Top 40 hit singles in the Top 40 -> 12
Number of UK Top 100 hit singles in the Top 40 -> 14

Number of UK Top 40 hit singles in the Top 100 -> 25
Number of UK Top 100 hit singles in the Top 100 -> 33

Once again we are down on the UK hit singles count with a record low of only a quarter of songs having reached the UK top 40... which includes hangovers from the previous year. :(

Number of Personal Number One singles -> 15
Number of Personal Top 3 hit singles -> 32
Number of Personal Top 5 hit singles -> 46
Number of Personal Top 10 hit singles -> 70
Number of Personal Top 20 hit singles -> 89
Number of Personal Top 40 hit singles -> 100

Amusingly exactly the same number of Top 10 and Top 20 hits as last year, although we're slightly down on #1s, Top 3s and Top 5s. Also for a change every song here made the Top 40 (last year 2 tracks didn't).

Commentary

We start the top 100 with a great house tune from EDX, with an anonymous female vocal, who gets 2 entries in the Hottest 100 just as he did last year. This is just what he does best really, not offering anything new but it’s a solid tune.
